“Perfect for a family Niagara/Buffalo trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 25, 2013

We just returned from a long weekend in the Buffalo area. We needed a kitchenette, easy access to Buffalo without staying IN Buffalo, and a room that fit us and our two college age kids, which means wi-fi. This hotel was perfect and I can't commend the value enough. A full size fridge, stovetop, microwave, great cable. Close to main roads but we slept soundly. Easy to find coming from the Falls, did some shopping too. We are a bunch of celiacs and it's close to several Wegman's, Outback, Bonefish grill and Carraba's plus the fine dining Buffalo guide is coded for gf fine dining. No, there's no pool or free breakfast. But it was seriously less expensive--- even after a charge for the foldaway bed and the munchies we bought at the little lobby store--- than my next choice and every bit as great a stay. We will never look for another metro Buffalo hotel. It's a keeper.

Good location right across from the entrance to UB North Campus, near lots of restaurants and stores. Very comfortable - very clean. A good place to stay if you are looking for a spacious room with a nice kitchen. Some things to note: This hotel shares a parking lot with what used to be a Hotel Indigo, but is now a DoubleTree. When it was a Hotel Indigo, you were welcome to utilize the facilities there as they were both IHG properties - that's where you will find a bar/lounge, pool, etc. Now that it's a DoubleTree, that's no longer the case. I'm sure they wouldn't mind you spending money at the bar, but you won't be able to use the pool, hot tub, etc. There's a fitness room at the Candlewood, but that's it. This is an extended stay hotel - these types of hotels generally only provide housekeeping once a week. You can get fresh towels and linens, etc. if you need them, but if you want your bed made every morning - you might be disappointed.

Room Tip: This hotel 'does' have connecting rooms - which can often be noisier, especially in extended...

This hotel was clean, modern, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The suite provided a fridge, small cooktop and dishwasher.

However, this was not enough to make up for the fact that there was NO DAILY HOUSEKEEPING (fine if just one night) and NO POOL!

This information is buried on their website!

What hotel chain doesn't provide daily housekeeping in this competitive market?

For over $300.00 for 2 nights, this hotel is overpriced!

There are plenty of other options available in the area that do provide these amenities for a similar price.

Cozy, has a nice kitchen with a normal size fridge inside, great location. Large rooms (especially after big city hotels that barely have room for a bed). What's not to like? Close to a little plaza with bars and pizza-places, not far from Galleria mall, NOTHING LIKE DOWNTOWN BUFFALO. If this is your first visit to Buffalo - I'd recommend to pick this place over any other in core downtown, this will create a good impression of your visit. As I mentioned above, this would be a good option for a long stay.

My wife and I were in the process of buying a house and at the last minute our closing got pushed back a week. We had already had the movers come in and pack us up except for a few last mnute items that we were tossing out like our old bed. We had to be out of our apartment on Wednesday the 1st. We had planned to spend the night at her dad's house, but now we were facing another week. So we were scrambling to find a hotel on very short notice. Normally this would not be a problem but we have 2 large dogs. One is 99 pounds and one is 87 pounds, and we have a cat also. There was no way that we could spend the week at her dad's house. When I searched for dog friendly hotels in Buffalo, I got recommended the Candlewood. I called and yes they had a room and no there was no issue with the dogs or the cat So off we went. The lobby is wide open and spacious and neat and clean. The window glass was spotless and so was the rest of the lobby. We were given a room with 2 beds and a full kitchen which was great because we had a cooler of food. There was as mentioned before a full size refrigerator and even a dishwasher in the room. There were plates and all the extras that you'd need. In the end we stayed a week until we closed on the house. We were told at check in that maid service was done when you check out, or you could ask for new towels or for service, we never bothered. There was a nice guest laundry which we used and the grounds were very nice. The staff was friendly and always was courteous. They even kept dog treats at the front desk. Free Pizza was available one night in the lobby. The store was reasonable and had everything that you could think of. Small fitness center with treadmills, ellipticals and bike and a weight machine. If you have a dog, this hotel is excellent.Oh and by the way the beds were so comfortable that my wife asked where they got them, because she wanted to buy one of them for us, and the pillows were the best I had ever slept on. There is a large area to walk dogs and they even have a pet station with bags on the grounds.

Room Tip: Clean, safe, well kept, pet friendly, great staff, near anything you need or want.

We opted to stay at the Candlewood Suites while visiting Niagara Falls, and we were so happy we did! Our studio apartment was really great: well-equipped, CLEAN and very comfortable. Every need was anticipated, down to a bowl of popcorn waiting to be popped in the microwave! It's on a busy street (Maple Rd) but traffic noise was minimal. Very easy access to freeways and on to the Falls. The staff were so welcoming and helpful; it seemed like they took a personal interest in the comfort and experience of every visitor. There's a handy store downstairs, with prices very reasonable. We were impressed there was no charge for our laundry and the facilities are great. We'll be looking at this chain when we plan our tour of the US next Spring. Well worth the money for a very positive experience. Thank you! (BTW, we didn't find the swimming pool or restaurant but Maple Rd has loads of good eateries - Friendly's (yum!) and Red Lobster (wowser!) )

Room Tip: We stayed on the 4th floor, at the top - very quiet.

I much prefer having housekeeping come in every day. Towels, linens, soap/shampoo, coffee was available in the lobby, but you had to go down and get them. The room was spacious, with a small "queen" size bed, felt more like a full size bed. Bed spread was stained, sink had hair in it from previous guest. I did like the full size refrigerator and microwave. It was about a 20 minutes from Niagara Falls. Staff was friendly.
