This place is definitely worth a visit. We stopped by, were the only ones there, and got a personal tour from Gordon himself.

In the US, all the museums are child proofed. Not this place. You can climb in and on everything you want.

A very unique experience seeing how trains have "evolved" over time and their importance in the development of Southern Africa and Zimbabwe.
Getting a personal tour through Rhodes' train was indeed the highlight, just taking in all the history of this man and this very coach that transported his body from Cape Town to the Matopas to his final resting ground.
Gordon, the curator with decades of long service in the rail industry is truly passionate about the trains and has a wealth of historical knowledge and not to mention a true gentleman.
You should definately make a turn at this museum when in town!
The cost to enter is a mere 1 dollar so there is really NO excuse not to go!

Very interesting museum, well maintained by a passionate and very kind curator.
The carriage of Rhodes is there, the entire place if rich of a long and past colonial history. An absolute must do !

on arrival it really does not look like much but you will be surprised. I love the Railway Museum. fun for kids and adults. everything is in such good condition. the table settings are just amazing. It always shocks me at how this place seems to have protected itself from the run down country. love it

I wasn't expecting much but it was fantastic. The 2 x two-year-olds has a ball as did all the adults. You can scramble on and off old steam engines to your hearts content. There is an old mine clearing train as well as Rhodes' own carriage imported from the States which is in mint condition. Gordon, a very helpful man, runs the museum - he was happy for us to walk about on our own and then joined us at the end to answer questions and generally be jolly. It's a shame there isn't a cafe as we would happily have spent longer there.
