I wasn't expecting much but it was fantastic. The 2 x two-year-olds has a ball as did all the adults. You can scramble on and off old steam engines to your hearts content. There is an old mine clearing train as well as Rhodes' own carriage imported from the States which is in mint condition. Gordon, a very helpful man, runs the museum - he was happy for us to walk about on our own and then joined us at the end to answer questions and generally be jolly. It's a shame there isn't a cafe as we would happily have spent longer there.

This place is incredible and the trains are great for kids. Rhodes' original train car is here and open to walk through, decorated with amazing and one-of-a-kind antiques. The gentleman that showed us around was a fountain of knowledge and the place would not have been the same without the guided tour. There is so much history here, if you're in Bulawayo don't miss it, but be sure to get someone to tell you about the trains and the history, otherwise a lot of meaning will be lost.

We only went here as we had some time to kill before our train to Vic Falls, and it was really rather fun. The guy who runs it was very friendly and accommodating, and the place has a well-loved feel. Not just for 'train buffs' (we definitely aren't) and there's some interesting social history stuff. Recommended (and also not just because he charges everyone the same, regardless as whether you're Zimbabwean or not....other museums in Bulawayo would in my view be busier if they chose not to discriminate in this way)

We loved this museum and the very enthusiastic man running it. He charged us $1 US and we just HAD to make a donation to the running costs, the whole place is crying out for funding. Make sure you pay it, and him, a visit

A fantastic snapshot of the past. The museum has a number of outstanding exhibits which are a reminder of bygone days when new frontiers were being opened up. The museum is sadly short of funding and there is much work to do but I would recommend a visit to any railway enthusiast or lover of history.
