Maramba River Lodge offers a peaceful environment in which to relax and take in Africa.
The staff are very friendly and cannot be more helpfull. The overall experience is very
comfortable. The restaurant offers an interesting and varied menu, with well presented and tasty food.
Overall,Maramba was a good choise.

This place was billed as luxury. That was an over statement. It was not cheap but it was over priced.

There are no windows, no air conditioning, there is a fan but the only place you could get cool was the bottom of the bed outside the mosquito net.

The restaraunt is at best cafe food - everything with chips.

The trips were over priced and the proceeds certainly did not make it into the pockets of the locals.

By visiting here you are not contributing to the local economy - the money seems to go to a rich non black local.

Expect to pay over the odds for trips that are not safe or billed as they actually are. Life appears to be cheap in Livingstone and that includes yours.

I think that livingstone is overpriced, even compared to high cost tourist destinations. Taxis are USD10 (in a decrepit piece of 20 year old japanese junk) even for a 1Km ride. That aside, the lodgw was good value.
Don't expect to see elephants in the lodge ground except in August, when one of the owners frightens them away with chilli paintballs. He obviously does not want them destroying the property, and it is highly unlikely that crocodiles, hippo, etc will be seen in that part of the Maramba River.
But the lodge is quite decent, ina nice location and the staff are very friendly.
The kitchen is very clean (compared to many other lodges in the area), and the food, although quite good, lacks variety, and the same menu is there for lunch and dinner every day.
The lodge is obviously designed for tourists who only stay one night. Even the chalets have very little room for unpacking and storing one's belongings. While I am on the topic of chalets, they are overdue for a refurbishment, but i am not really complaining because I am not a tourist who expects super luxury at every stop. But it would be nice to have better doorlocks, bathroom shelving, good shower heads etc.
Overall, I really enjoyed my stay, and would return again.

I chose the Maramba due to is excellent value for money. Prices range from 60 to 150$ which is a great deal given Zambian high prices (e.g. the Zambezi Sun charges 600$).

Location is nice and peaceful directly at the Maramba river (more like a big pond), i.e. it's not on the Zambezi river which is a bit if a pity (but that's the reason for it's affordability.

Staff is very friendly. Food is good.

From the moment you arrive the warm welcome stays with you! The staff, Brigitte, Theresa and especially Chiku were outstanding! ALWAYS smiling always helpful! The safari tent we had #7 was really cool! Good mosquito nets, no holes. Room was super clean and very airy. Lots of hot water for the shower. Food in the restaurant was delicious, the Christmas day dinner of Turkey with all the trimmings? unexpected and DELICIOUS! WOW! Breakfast was great as well sitting outside under the trees, listening to the frogs and birds seranding you? Wonderful! The little lounge area over by the very nice pool was great to sit in and chill, coffee/tea available all the time, nice touch. To be able to sit and enjoy a Mosi Beer and overlook the river ( was very low despite it being the rainy season ) and hear Hippos, very cool! We felt very safe here and wished our stay was longer. There is an activities centre off from the desk that you could book tours through and the ladies are very friendly. Another nice thing or maybe a curse, you decide, there IS WIFI available free and while yes it goes up and down it is nice to be able to email people photos and make them jealous! Russel, we did not have the pleasure of meeting you, but your staff are 5 *****
