“Avoid this place at all costs!!! Rather use FAULTY TOWERS!”
Reviewed January 28, 2014

I stayed at Jollyboys Livingstone Zambia in January 2014.
It was the worst experience of my life and I just want to warn others not to stay there!
Things wrong with it are as follows:
- Poor standard in living accommodation (we booked a twin room) It was dirty with cobwebs and had clearly not be cleaned well. My duvet had white stains on it (you decide what that was!!)
Poor security just a small padlock, the bin was broken, the fan was filthy, and the bolt on the inside of door did not work. Also the light switch was loose on the wall and was sparking.
These issues were sorted out in the end but should not be there in the first place.
- Communial areas in the whole complex or generally dirt. Bar and menus are flithy, pool is full of flies and a bit slimmy! Pool and table tennis table are in very poor state.
-Beds are sooooo uncomfortable. I woke up with terrible back pain every day. Matresses are old and over used!
- Wifi is charged and is still very slow (Faulty towers offer wifi for free)
- The place was started in 1996 I think I it looks like they have not updated or cleaned it since.
- Staff were very rude apart from 1 or 2.
- After complaining to the Manager she was extremely rude and just spoke louding over us everytime we tried to make a point! Shocking customer services!
- There a free water fill bottle there but if you look closly its full of foreign objects floating around in there.

We ended up moving to Faulty towers that was just down the road and for $5 more people night we eneded up getting a large family room. This place is so much more cleaner and a better service and is also out of the way of the center so you don't get hassled by traders as much, also this place is right next to all the main shops.

Any more info on this please email me I will be happy to let you know more.

Room Tip: Don't use Jolly boys - use Faulty Towers instead.

We spend two nights there, the place its well situated, near downtown livingstone, just behind livingstone museum, the room was clean, good bed, hot water, the bar was quiet good and food was great. Staff was very helpful people. The only bad thing I find its was internet was not free(2$/hour), Even for us I payd 120$ for two nights.

This backpackers has everything you need. A nice big communal kitchen which was always left clean, a nice sized pool for cooling off and a bar which was always busy. Although I found it more expensive than other hostels I'd stayed in in Africa it was still ok for travellers on a tight budget. Me and my boyfriend stayed in one of the huts at the back of the hostel and it was so lovely I didn't want to leave. It was cosy and comfy! The bathrooms were always very clean as well. The hostel also had computers to use, however you did have to pay for wifi which was expensive and unreliable. There was nice comfy seating area which was nice to chill out in and read a book. Jolly boys is a good place to meet other travellers and its close to some quite good bars so you can have a decent night out. Also there is a spar shop just a 5 minutes walk which is very handy. I have to say though that some of the staff were unfriendly and not very helpful sometimes. But if you can look past this its a really cool place to stay. I would definitely recommend taking advantage of the free shuttle service to the Falls. Its well worth it as taxi drivers tend to rip you off. Also visit the DEVILS POOL. Its an amazingly breathtaking experience.

Room Tip: The double rooms which are the huts outside are very nice and comfy. I was worried about mosquitos a...

Stayed there with my family when we had gone for a funeral. The place was clean and the bar staff courteous and fun.Other guests were also extremenly friendly. However the ladies at the front desk where out right rude to the extent of phoning us demanding payment when we had not checked out and had already paid for the nights we had spent there, as if this was not enough they left notes on the door. Our fellow zambian staff treated us quite badly but seemed to go out of their way to be nice to our expat colleagues. Quite a shame to be treated that way in your own country by your fellow countrymen.I would be hesitant to recommend the place to a fellow Zambian, but otherwise great .

Good place,
We met a lot of open minded back packers which made for a good vibe. Staff was helpful and it is situated within walking distance from town.

It is also opposite the livingstone museum and ministry of tourism where they offer, travellers a plant to plant on their land for nature conservation. Ask for Uncle Ben, the whole experience is very ceremonial.

Truly enjoyed livingstone as a place, and would recommend jolly boys, although on the negative wifi is not free and the bedding is extremely old. For that reson Fawulty towers which is closer to inner city is also a recommendation.

But beyond that it's a good place.

Really loved this hostel from the moment I arrived - great pool, bar, atmosphere - very chilled out but then becomes a place to go for people having a drink later in the night. Met lovely people - staff were great, very friendly and very helpful with booking activities (white-water rafting is a MUST and also go see the Devil's Pool!).

Wish I had had longer to stay (only had two nights - was supposed to be three but flight delays!). Was very easy to relax and chill out there! Was in the Honeymoon suite which is an adorable room/hut - loved it!

Completely recommend here - a great hostel - will definitely try my best to return!

Room Tip: Honeymoon Suite was so cool - I love the little huts that you get - small but very charming!

We stayed here for two nights in November and loved it. Compared to many of the places we stayed in Zambia this was great. Air con rooms are good - but use your mosquito net! Clean and modern, good communal facilities, tours arranged at the hostel.

Good food served and a kitchen to make your own too. Good, clean swimming pool.

By far one of the best hostels we stayed at.
