“Jollyboys (Campsite) - Quiet, relaxed and really good value for money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2012

Located about 4 Minutes drive from the town's main street (probably a 10 minute walk on dirt roads), Jollyboys Campsite is the quieter lodge when compared with the JollyBoys Backpackers (which is located more centrally in the town, behind the Museum).

We didn't swim in the pool, although it was very clean and inviting!
Staff were friendly and helped us to coordinate some activities such as their free trip to the falls and contacting taxi drivers to get into town.

< Facilities >
* Swimming Pool - looked very clean and inviting, although we didn't use it!
* Neat lounge area - big pillows, ideal place to crash for a while and review your photos of the day.
* Bar - very basic bar, didn't serve spirits if I'm correct.
* Pool Table - a little worn-out but games are free.
* Luggage Lock-up - we locked up most of our luggage whilst we went on a Multi-Day rafting tour.
* Internet Facilities - affordable and sold in 15 minute vouchers.
* Small Curios Shop - Jewellery, t-shirts and other local goods for sale.

< Room >
* Double room was a comfortable size. No closets or drawers to store things in, simply a few shevles and an area with space for hangers on a steel frame.
* Bed was a good size (double-size bed) with a Mosquito net provided. It got significantly colder at night (August), there was a fan in the room for the hotter moments during the day.
* The shower is pretty basic but also rather big, could have had better drainage.

< The Good >
* Friendly and Knowledgeable staff
* Comfortable Chill Area
* Activity Guide and booking assistance from Reception

< The Bad >
* Red Flooring in room left markings on luggage
* Our bathroom door wouldn't close properly and we had tried to get it fixed by their *Handyman Charles, took them a few days to sort out (as we didn't want to leave a carpenter in the room with all our gear).
* Windows are missing and just have a mosquito screen, meaning you will sometimes hear people outside your room.

< He Says >
* Although not as central or nearly as lively as the Backpackers, the Taxi's are cheap from the Camp to town ( One-way $3 USD in AUG 2011).
* Make sure you ask for a power-adapter (or two) at reception to charge your electronics.
* Although we didn't have the time, apparently you can rent bicycles from the JollyBoys Backpackers - this could have been quite useful!

< She Says >
* The stay was very pleasant indeed. Mosquito nets over the beds made for a stress-free, mosquito-free sleep – only the BIG bugs you have to worry about . Although we stayed at the Jollyboys Campsite, we went to the Jollyboys Backpackers one evening for drinks and we found there to be a wonderful party vibe at night which allowed us to meet many interesting people from around the world. After the third day at the Jollyboys Campsite, however, I started to crave a morning cappuccino which was hard to find at the campsite, but this is a small luxury after all!
* The people were exceptionally friendly and accommodating and if given the opportunity, I would definitely stay there again!

This hostel is the place for you if you would like to meet people and stay for a great price. It is not for you if you are looking for somewhere quiet with a low key crowd. The common areas are full of people telling of their adventures of the day. The bar at night is usually buzzing and it is a great vibe for those looking for it.

We had a double ensuite room and it was very nice for hostel standards. It had airconditioning (a must for Zambia) and was a good size.

The staff at Jollyboys are very eager to help and they have a tonne of activities to choose from. The only con here is that we found out they take a $50 USD commission on every tour they book. So now we start to understand some of the prices. Regardless they tours are often very good. There are some other options in town though if you are willing to look.

We did the river rafting with Raft Extreme (not through Jollyboys) and they were amazing and the video was awesome!

We had booked the Jollyboys Camp since it was described as quite place, which is suitable for families. We were absolutely disappointed when the children were told not to play with the water fountain of the tiny pool, the only attraction of the smallest water- hole we found during the entire trip!
The rooms at the Camp are small and sweaty, the staff did not attend to the back up of the loo and we did not feel comfortable with the boozing crowd that decided to brai next to our rooms.
We spent the most horrible night at Jollyboys and were absolutely relievd to move to one of the local lodges that offer a better value for the same rate!

I stayed at Jollyboys for 10 weeks while in Zambia teaching in a local school. The staff were so friendly, they really made me feel welcome and at home. They were so helpful with everything I needed or wanted to know and were brilliant in helping to fundraise for the school I was teaching at. The atmosphere at Jollyboys is great, if you want to chill you can, if you want to party, you can! I stayed in a dorm which I was quite apprehensive about beforehand but I had very few problems in the whole 10 weeks, most people are very considerate. I would really recommend Jollyboys as a place to stay, I made so many friends there and have such amazing memories! It is great :D

Room Tip: The 8 bed dorms have air con which the 16 and 4 beds don't! They are also in a quieter location.

A pleasant place to stay at while being in Livingstone. It is situated closely to the bus-station and market. Pleasant rooms, but not always enough place to secure your belongings, when sharing.
The possibilities of trips from the place vary from transportation to the Falls to doing a wildwater raft session.

There is a good kitchen for preparing meals, big or small.

I personally enjoyed meeting several people from different backgrounds and parts of the world. As a single female traveler, I felt safe and looked after.

Jollyboys, has a very friendly feel. Happy staff are very easy to deal with & very efficient in recommending & arranging activities.

Jollyboys restaurant serves decent food in comparison to other options in the town & when all the activities burn a hole in your pocket, Jollyboys offers the ideal environment to see the day out with a Mosi by the pool.

Check out does come around a bit early though. 10am. And the communal kitchen ..... well, the hygeine levels can be terrifying at times.
