Limbo Lodge
Reviewed November 6, 2013

Limbo Lodge is a comfortable, clean and attractive location to enjoy Livingstone and the activities in the area. Circular reddish buildings with thatched roofs give the Lodge a rustic and inviting appearance. The guest room had air conditioning, bathroom, hot water shower, and a very comfortable bed. Meals at the Lodge were very good, a full breakfast was included in the price of the room and we ate supper there each night, again the food was very good. A small outdoor swimming pool is located behind the dining room and is quite refreshing when the outdoor temperatures soar. There are attractions in the area that should be explored, the staff made all the necessary arrangements in advance for a visit to Victoria Falls and the Chobe Land/Water Safari. Overall, this is an excellent place to stay and I would not hesitate for a moment to stay here again or recommend it to friends.
p.s. There is a very nice cafe in town called Mulani that is a great place to stop for a coffee and snack.

I arrived as part of a group that had been working in Lusaka.
Nice accomodation in thatched roundhouses, location on outskirts of Livingstone, rooms air conditioned. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The wi-fi provided was useful.

My friend and I stayed at this hotel while visiting Livingstone and Victoria Falls.

I really liked staying here, the individual thatched chalets were really comfortable, and really clean, and all came with air conditioning and it's own bathroom, and it was very affordable in comparison with some other lodge style accommodation in Livingstone. The rooms all had TV and WiFi is available in the patio'd area near reception, which is free.

Limbo Lodge is located around a 15 minute taxi ride to Livingstone, or about an hours wandering by foot. There is a security guard at the entrance to make sure you are safe.
When we stayed here, the power was intermittent at night, but this was all over Livingstone, and it was surprising how dark it gets, the Lodge could do with some solar powered pathlights to show you the way to your lodge!!
Breakfast and dinner was really nice, always fresh eggs available!

This Lodge is highly recommended and I would definitely stay here again!

We had been staying in Lusaka for a while and wanted to spend our anniversary in Livingstone. The lodge came recommened to us by the bradt travel guide as a warm hospitable lodge. And that is just how we found it. the rooms were clean and kitted out with everything you would need. The staff were friendly and helpful. It is situated in a quiet part of town. Taxi to the centre is K20,000. Armadillos restaurant is a must also. The breakfast was ample. If you want good accommodation that is enjoyable and gives you the flavour of Zambina hospitality and that is not going to break the bank we recommend limbo lodge.

I am a volunteer in Sub Saharan Africa and travel extensively and stay in hotels and lodges throughout Southern Africa. One lodge I stay in frequently in Livingstone Zambia is the Limbo Lodge. First and foremost Limbo Lodge is a family owned and oriented establishment. From the first visit I have been made to feel at home. The rooms are quite unique; mostly circular concrete block villas with thatched roofs and bathrooms with showers, tv, ac and refrigerators and tea kettles. The beds are from twin to double to queen partially circular because of the room configurations. Clean and neat with matching curtains and bedspreads in an African motif. There are no phones in the rooms. They do take credit cards for payment which is unusual in Zambia. Everybody except the big hotels will only take US dollars.
The lodge is fenced and gated and has an inviting, clean swimming pool. The grounds are lush with native fruit and shade trees. The breakfast room is a thatched roof building with a bar and kitchen and clean modern rest rooms,. Each room has widow screens and the location is about three minutes to town by taxi or courtesy bus. Nowhere in Livingstone is there a Lodge or hotel that is in a better location than perhaps the Royal Livingstone or Zambezi Sun or the David Livingstone Lodge, but then the price is triple to quintuple the Limbo.
I have had members of my own family from America and numerous friends stay at Limbo Lodge with nothing but glowing reports. Most accessed the lodge transport with no problems. The food was reasonably priced and good ;the bar very reasonably priced also. Satellite TV was in the room and in the restaurant.
I would not hesitate to recommend Limbo Lodge to any potential visitors and guests.

Where do I start?! We arrived at the Zambia Airport and waited 1hr until a local at the airport asked us if we were ok, and who we were waiting for. He knew of the lodge so called them to advise them we were waiting (still!!) to be picked up. Eventually, we were picked up..apparently the owner/manager Kingsly (the main reason we had booked here was because of a good report on him), was out of town so no one had bothered to get us (even though we had booked 10months in advance!!!!)

Finally picked up by two guys who seemed to have been left in charge - in an old horrible blue car which was filthy and then we drove through Livingstone town and down a long dirt road until we arrived at the lodge.

It was a ghost town. We were the only people staying there, no tourists or anyone and the lodge was completely isolated from anywhere. We were shown to our room - it was horrible. Then we noticed there was a thin door connecting our room to the room next door, and we could hear the two guys go in there and start talking….we still have no idea what they were doing or talking about, but it was extremely unnerving. The front door was thin and bowed, the window was made up of broken glass slats, with no fly screens and the toilet was leaking. Nothing like I imagined. In fact as soon as I walked into the room I burst into tears. It truly was the worst experience of my life. There were no phones at the lodge and my mobile wasn't working so we thought we were stranded. That is the worst feeling in the world.

Anyway luckily I had pre-booked the sunset cruise on the Zambezi so the driver from Safpar was coming for us in 1hr.. so 1hr is all we stayed!!! We then phoned Zambezi Sun and were transferred there after our cruise. We had paid for two nights, but that didn’t matter, we were happy to lose that money as long as we didn’t have to stay there. Safpar were fantastic - life savers! They re-arranged our pick ups for all our activities and even took us to the new hotel.

To give you an idea of how bad we found this place, we ended up being happy to pay $315US per night on top of the $150US we had paid for the 2 nights at Limbo Lodge….just to get out of there.

Please – be aware. Unless you are prepared for this, don’t stay there – we found it absolutely horrible.

It is regretable that the reviewer has been extra harsh on our establishment. We have apologised to the client for mix up in Airport pick up by the trainee manger.

We have so far replaced the manager and are processing the refund to the client.

We can assure our future clients that such a situation will not happen again.

We have given satisfactory service to our clients. They have referred their friends to stay with us.
