Sanctuary Sussi Choma Zambia
It was the best possible start to a 23 day long Southern African sojourn. The huts are on the banks of River Zambezi and you can sit out on the open air balcony and enjoy the wonderful views and maybe even catch some wildlife action as we did! The room offers every possible convenience and is beautifully appointed.
Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and helped us to make the most of our short stay. The food was very good and the service excellent --- ask for the last two rooms if you are looking for privacy and some private animal viewing (we were woken up by elephants below us before the actual wake-up call came in!) The highlight of our stay was the evening river cruise with a spectacular African setting sun. We were only able to do a short game drive but tracking the rhino on foot was one thing we regretted not being able to do.
One word of caution---if you are coming to see the Victoria Falls the time of year is very important as the Zambian side has dry season from July-Aug till January and the best views are from the Zimbabwean side. There are two ways around this hurdle---equip yourself with a visa and spend a couple of hours across the border, returning to your den by evening and/or tale the 15 minute scenic helicopter tour which operates from the Zambian side.(United Air Charters) As a matter of fact we would put this down on the ‘must do’ list.
All in all Sussi Chuma is an excellent destination and affords a memorable staying experience

Having been on a safari before, the location was a bit of a disappointment to me. I didn't realize the property was so close to a town - I was used to being way out in the bush, very remote in Kenya. That said, this was a great way to intro my mom to Africa. The camp and the staff are incredibly friendly, the thatched huts are lovely inside and the river safari's are a great compliment to the land viewing. A must here is seeing Vic Falls - do the full hike, wear the rain gear (even if it is hot, because you will be beyond drenched) and enjoy the beautiful of that tour! If you've been on safari before, would not recommend this on your tour except maybe as overnight for Falls and the river.

Location on the Zambezi near Victoria falls great! Quiet venue in nature yet much to do and see. The facilities are outstanding. The food was outstanding! What makes it really great is the staff. They look after you with much care but are never too much. We felt like royalty!

We stayed in treehouse #10 for two nights. The room was perfect--up to Sanctuary standards. After checking in, we walked down to the dock for a boat ride on the river before enjoying an excellent dinner in the dining room. The Sanctuary is located in a game park. We experienced a trip to a park where orphaned lion cubs are being raised in preparation for being released back into the wild. It was a great experience to walk through the forest with 3 lions--definitely not a "zoo-type" adventure. We returned to Sussi & Chuma for a late lunch. As lunch was ending we heard a commotion and trumpetting next to the dining area. We walked out onto the raised walkways as a herd of more than 50 elephants came right through the camp. They walked right under us as we watched the big bulls and the tiny babies wander about, tearing bark from the trees. That night a guide took us back to treehouse #10, shining a light upon a hippo right under our house. In the early morning, I walked out onto the terrace and saw a large kudu right below me. This was a fantastic experience and I highly recommend Sussi & Chuma.

We spent our first two of nine nights here during a luxury safari through Zambia and Botswana. Sussi & Chuma stood out for its superb accommodations (including a wonderful soaking tub!), cuisine, and staff. We had an excellent guide (Luckson) and the lodge manager (Arnold) was marvelous. And the food was simply the best - fine dining at every meal. The lodge is situated on the Zambezi so you couldn't ask for a better setting. And we got some quality time with white rhinos. Highly recommend a walking safari to appreciate the small things while looking for the big five!

We just got back from our vacation in Africa. We spent 4 wonderful nights at this beautiful sanctuary. The staff bent over backwards to make sure that we were satisfied. The food was fresh and delicious. The staff was amazing and we quickly made friends with many of them. Dave served us all of our meals and Luckson was our private guide. He was so informative and made our time in Zambia one that was very special. My son took us to Africa as a gift for our 40 th anniversary He wanted us to have an unforgettable vacation and thanks to our time at Sussi and Chuma, I can say that his wish was fulfilled.

We were scheduled to spend 2 nights here for our honeymoon, but due to some flight hiccups (beware Air Namibia schedule changes), we only had one night here. But in that one night, we were blown away. The staff bent over backwards to allow us to do all the activities we wanted in the short time we had. The lodge is amazing with incredible views of the river. The food was gourmet quality. Above all, the staff was overwhelmingly attentive and caring. We only wish we had extra nights to enjoy more of what the camp had to offer.
