“Loved the Zambezi”
Reviewed November 28, 2007

We stayed here for one nite as part of an overland trip which finished here, We were camping, it's a great campsite with a small pool which was good to cool off in when it's 40 degrees! It has a nice bar/restaurant area overlooking the river and a travel desk upstairs to book any activities you might want to do - we did the Elephant safari which was pricey but worth it! Also the Zambezi booze cruise was good as well.

  • Liked — Bar area overlooking the river and the pool
  • Disliked — Mosquitos & baboons in the showers!

The waterfront was lovely as it was my first night in Zambia. It is very basic, most of the site being camping, with lodges available (I think....). The upgraded tents are big enough with 2 people per tent. They have a padlock, so you can secure your belongings, and there is a small lamp and a plug available inside. There are 2 small pools, although personally I did not use either, as it was quite cold in may.
The recpetion has good service, as does the bar, and most things are very cheap.
The showers are not so good, and full of mozzies, so take some flip flops and insect spray!!!
The rest of the site was lovely, but watch out for the monkeys, as they will take off with anything left outside the tents, but are very amusing to watch!!
There is a sunset/dinner cruise available which I would deff recommend. It cost me $35, and was fantastic. There were lots of snacks and a decent meal, plus I did see lots of animals from the boat including elephants, crocs, and hippos! if you have the time its a great experience.
From the waterfront, there are also LOTS of activities available to book, from helicopter rides to bungje jumps!! Lots of stuff to do!!
They also have internet access, which is not too costly (although quite slow, as is most of Africa!)
All in all, a good place to go on a budget, great veiws, and good service!
Recommended!

  • Liked — Its so close to nature!

We stayed here 20/21st November 2006. We booked it through their UK agent and didn't realise that this is basically a backpackers camp with a few cabins. We paid extra for a water front cabin.

The room was very basic. There was no air conditioning or ceiling fan, just a standing fan. The beds had mosquito nets, but they had seen better days and had some holes in them. The bathroom was very basic and when I put soap on the soap dish, it fell off the wall exposing a rusty nail. The water was hot tho'.

They had provided a kettle and some tea/coffee, but the socket didn't seem to work very well and the leads had to be set just right, to work. Get them wrong and not only did the kettle not work, but the fan stopped too!

The view was of the river was nice, but I wasn't too sure of our neighbour, a crocodile in the river!

We had 5 activities booked for our two days, but our plane was late, which meant some rescheduling. The staff couldn't have been more helpful in rearranging everything.

Breakfast required getting a chit from the cashier and handing it over to the egg chef. This meant everybody had to eat together.

  • Liked — The river views
  • Disliked — Very basic rooms
  • Tips/Secrets — Take a helicopter flight over the Vic Falls and three times as many US dollars as you first thought of.
