This train and it's coaches are unbelievable! They are so well looked after that when you are on board you feel like you have gone back in time and living a vivid by gone experience.
We had a 5 course dinner, which wasn't the greatest I've ever had, but was enjoyable. Drinks, as on most tours in Zambia, are served in abundance and you are encouraged to over indulge and just have fun.
In conclusion, if you can afford it, I would definitely recommend doing this tour during your stay!

One last thing, to give you an idea of the work involved, the staff start early in the morning to get everything ready for you. This includes pumping around 18 tons of water out of the Zambezi river to fill the steam train together with the loading of over 4 tons of coal. And that takes you just 20-30 kilometers... oh, how things have changed!

The dining experience on the train ride lasts a few hours from sundown till about 22h00 and is a fantastic meal on wheels. Service is excellent and the food quality very good indeed.

There were only 4 of us on the train so we received dedicated service and had chance to go on footplate etc

One of the most amazing experiences!! i took my parents and my daughter on the trip, ti was fantastic and really felt like stepping back in time as soon as you get on the train. They let guests take turns in the engine, my 75 year old Dad felt like he was 10 all over again!
