“Peaceful, beautiful and a bit different....”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

I struggled to find reviews of Sindabezi Island when were were planning our trip so I thought I should put one on here, now that we are back!
We had 2 nights on Sindabezi and thoroughly enjoyed it. The "rooms" are clean and comfortable. If considering a stay here, you have to be aware that you are open to the elements (with a mosquito net) and that may not be to everybody's taste. Whilst we didn't have mosquitos in our net, our bed was not entirely bug free, but that is just how it is in the bush!
The insect repellent provided (Peaceful Sleep) seemed to work a treat as we were not bitten here during our stay.

On our first night it was hot and still which did disturb our sleep, but on night 2 a lovely breeze was wafting in and we slept well.

The views from each room are stunning, and the staff will look after you well. We spent a lot of time on the river (canoeing, sunset/sunrise boat trips, transferring between the Island and Tongabezi for activities) and it was just incredible. So peaceful and scenic. Big thanks to Ronald our boatman for his services which included rather nice G&Ts on the sunset trip and much needed coffee and biscuits on the sunrise trip!

Food was very good. Breakfast has a small buffet to start with (there are only 5 rooms on the Island) and then you can order from a menu of food that is cooked to order. The coconut french toast with dried fruit compote was very nice. Portions are quite large. We didn't have lunch here because of being out on activities (we either ate lunch at Tongabezi or while out) but dinner was great. There was a small choice on the menu but I imagine that if you have any particular dietary requirements the staff will cater for you. We enjoyed everything we had here.

There are 3 small lamps in each room, but that is all. If you need power for charging batteries etc, they'll happily sort that out for you over on Tongabezi. No need for hairdryers! The shower had great pressure and plenty of very hot water.

Overall we loved our time on Sindabezi and it was lovely to relax here and take in the amazing Zambezi experience.

Room Tip: We had a good look at all the "rooms" and I think 2 and 3 have more open views, however, R...

This place was awesome. We stayed on Sindabezi Island which you get to by boat off of the Zambezi river. The accommodations were like houses in the trees overlooking the river. The staff was incredible, food great and activities fun. I would love to go back to this place, it was my favorite accommodation whilst on my safari vacation and we traveled to three different countries within Africa.

I visited Sindabezi Island a year before I stayed at its parent-lodge, Tongabezi, and I found it to be an incredible experience. The "lodge" is located on an island in the Zambezi, and each of its several chalets are secluded and sit directly over the river. The island lacks any power, so at night you are truly staying in nature, reading in candlelight, and listening to the creatures in the pitch dark. It is truly a rare experience, one that I couldn't recommend more.

The chalets are appointed with care, and despite being basically open to nature, they are spotlessly clean and are outfitted with neat fixtures, such as a brass washbasin. In fact, the washbasin looks out over the river, as does the open shower.

The food was excellent, and service was perfect. Just like at Tongabezi, whatever you need, they get for you, with a truly genuine smile. As with Tongabezi, these people are happy to work here. We asked if they had any drinks, and our porter brought us a full, unopened bottle of Johnnie Walker. We told the chef we were still hungry at dinner, and we were brought new dinners.

Sindabezi really shouldn't be missed, and I'm confused as to why this lodge isn't highlighted more on Tripadvisor or in other travel magazines.

Room Tip: All "rooms" are identical: amazing.
