We loved this beautiful hotel with traditional design!!!
After reading one or two of the reviews on tripadvisor.com about this hotel I began to have doubts about staying here as part of our honeymoon last May 2006. As the accomodation was non-refundable so the decision was made for us. When we arrived at the hotel we were both so excited at the beautiful sight that met our eyes. The staff were all dressed in what I can only imagine to be typically traditional costumes and we were met with a band at the front entrance who were only too happy to pose for some photographs. The decor in the hotel itself is something to behold.... amazing colours and designs everywhere. Our room was quiet small but sufficient for the amount of time we spent in it. The AC made all the difference as we could escape the beaming midday sun to the comfort of the cool room. The hotel could not be physically closer to the hotel and depending on the breeze it would not be uncommon to feel the spray of the falls while walking around the hotel. The pool/bar area was beautiful and plenty of space for all guests. Although the lunch time menu was quiet expensive, the buffet breakfast and dinner were amazing for all those food lovers out there. You made x amount for your buffet dinner and you could eat until your hearts desire!!! I'd say we left here 7lbs heavier after all the beautiful food and drink. The evening entertainment was straight forward enough, but once you have a few drinks on board you'll dance to anything. Personally I would chose this hotel over the sister hotel, the Royal Livingstone, time and time again... the costumes the staff in the Royal Livingstone had to wear was enough to turn me off staying there. Although I would recommend a walk over to and a drink on the riverside terrace.... you never know what you might see in the river. While staying at the Zambezei sun we saw a crocodile, giraffees, monkeys and an elephant!!! Amazing.

We arrived at the Zambezi Sun after quite a long trip already - 2 weeks in and around Cape Town (where we got married) and then a 3 night safari in Botswana so we were looking forward to chilling out. We had done a lot of travelling to get to the hotel from our safari camp in Botswana. Not necessarily in miles but in time with lots of changing buses/boat trips etc. So - we were tired and HOT! Reception was very cool and spacious and were were attended to immediately and efficiently. A welcome drink was served (iced tea) and luckily our room was ready.

The 2 storey accommodation blocks are pretty unremarkable in looks, but all surround the pool area so lots have a nice view. Once in the corridors be careful - the floors must be polished relentlessly - they are extemely slippery. I dread to think what they must be like in rainy season.

The rooms are fine and decorated in a colourful and authentic african style. We had a tiled floor, nice bathroom with seperate shower and 2 double beds. The bath was very short - ok for me at 5ft 5ins but no good for lying out properly really. There was a TV with a lot of international channels on (unfortunately for me but not for my husband) and the Premiership was on continually on one channel. Tea and coffee making facilities are there and there are ice machines in each block. Housekeeping was of a good standard.

The property was quite spead out and there wasa lovely pool and lots of sun beds and grass areas. They have zebras and giraffes and lots of monkeys wandering around the grounds - there must be some fencing somewhere. It does have quite a novelty factor but some might find it tacky.

There are 2 bars, one near the pool and one in a restaurant called Squires. The pool bar is very nice and you can sit outside and live music is one most nights which actually was very good. Buffet dinner is served here some nights or in the main restaurant if the hotel is very busy. We did not have this buffet during our 3 night stay so can't comment. I think it was 40 dollars which is quite a lot. We had our dinner in a restaurant on the hotel site called Squires which is more informal and has a good menu with pasta/burgers/salads/all meats and fish. It was good quality, inexpensive and the service was great. In fact all the service we had was great - we did not have a cause to complain once. Breakfast was a buffet and there was everything you could want and quality was excellent.

The only thing about this hotel which I was not happy with was the price of wine. It is about 60 dollars a bottle and I can't find any explanation for this other than it is a rip off. In neighbouring Botswana where we were on safari it was for peanuts and was even included in the all inclusive rate were were on. So, if you are a wine lover like me -TAKE YOUR OWN!!.

Lots to do in the surrounding area like white water rafting (we did it and it was awesome - do the full day), gorge swing, bungee jumping, walking trails, sunset cruise, walking safari, helicopter rides over the falls etc. We did something every day but also had chill time round the pool

Even though it was the start of the rainy season when we were there it did not rain and so the falls were still quite empty. Still spectacular though and they are about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. It was very hot most days getting up to about 40 degrees.

All in all I would say this hotel is excellent. I don't know how much other people had paid to stay there - we got a discount as we work in the travel industry - so can't really comment on value for money. We certainly would recommend the hotel and indeed Zambia to anyone and had a wonderful time..

The hotel was amazing. We were on our honeymoon and thoroughly enjoyed being so close to the falls. The wildlife was excellent and all the excursions organised were fab including an elephant back safari. The food was great and all staff very friendly. We're saving up to go back!!!

The Zambezi Sun is located in one of the most amazing locations in the world. The rooms are a good size and the facilities are very good. I love the zebras that roam the grounds and the constant roar of Victoria Falls. Food was decent but pricey.....

Simply a magnificent property with exceptionally well-trained and gracious staff and amazing food.

The grounds are beautiful, with manicured lawns and exquisite trees and shrubs throughout. My room looked out on the back lawn, actually part of the national park, where I was treated to views of zebras and monkeys passing the time. We even encountered a couple of giraffes in the parking lot!

The location is perfect, with Victoria Falls a gentle five-minute stroll away along a wooded path. Because the hotel is within the national park, guests are entitled to free and unlimited access to the Zambian side of the falls.

The service is flawless. From the moment of our arrival, when we were greeted in the lobby with a glass of local juice, to our departure, when we were seen off with a warm smile and heartfelt gratitude for our business, we felt cared for at every moment.

The rooms, though small, are nicely appointed, with large, stunning bathrooms, including hand-made tiled sinks, separate showers, and radiant lighting.

The swimming pool is enormous, as it meanders through the garden, even passing under a little bridge.

The hotel pays particular attention to malaria control, with special a anti-mosquito apparatus in each room and excellent air conditioning to keep the little beasts at bay.

The food was incredibly delicious. Breakfasts, included in our rate, were absolute feasts, with every imaginable breakfast food available in abundant supply -- plus some foods I could never even have imagined. The buffet dinner was also exceptionally abundant, varied, and delicious, and the price -- around US$33 -- though expensive by local standards, was more than worth that much by urban standards. The experience of dining at poolside, under the stars, as monkeys played a few feet away on the lawn, was priceless.

It's hard to imagine that the Zambezi Sun only rates 3 stars officially. Its sister property, the 5-star Royal Livingstone, is clearly much more luxurious, but I could find nothing wrong with the Sun to deserve only a 3-star rating. To me, it was easily a 4-star property, with 5-star service.

We where there for two nights, two nights too long for me the hotel was nice and the rooms were clean but the hotel had nothing to offer only a bar and a couple of shops, we where there on a bed and breakfast basis only and found the hotel to be very expensive for what you where getting, the food was plain. Although there are some highlights like a monkey stealing my sandwich and the falls where good I don’t think I’ll ever be back.

Although this was such a beautiful property, I was floored with how expensive everything was!!! They were charging all in USD and getting over top-dollar for it. A water-proof camera was $50 adn internet was $20 for 40 minutes. The restaurant was a waste of money so we ate at the bar.
