“Great Way to End a Great Visit”
Reviewed May 18, 2013 via mobile

In Malawi & Zambia with the ONE Campaign for a week. Hotels along the way were good - but ending up at the Zambezi Sun was two clear notches up. The rooms were of decent size, television are out-dated by western standards but the picture was clear and the channel selection adaquate. The restaurant is buffet F-L-D and they change the theme of the dinner buffet each night. Friday, for instance, was Tex-Mex night. Not what you'd get in Dallas, but tasty and prepared with gusto and good humor. The bar service at the pool was terrific. All the staff was friendly and helpful.

Extremely kind and capable staff, comfortable rooms, excellent restaurant and ideal location for visiting Victoria Falls make this hotel an excellent choice. The Zambezi Sun Hotel is a relaxing oasis. Within the same hotel group as the much pricier Royal Livingston Hotel just down the road, the Zambezi Sun offers good value. You can walk the level 10 minute path to the Royal Livingston Hotel, and see resident zebra and giraffe. Our group was very happy staying at this hotel.

Great start to our tour-holiday staying here, the hotel is very open and animals wander around everywhere! There is a resident giraffe and when we returned to the hotel after our first day out, there was a zebra stood by the swimming pool watching the evening entertainment! Surreal!!! The room was simple but nicely decorated in african style which i liked. Facilities were basic but sufficient to meet our requirements. As we entered our room sometimes cochroaches followed you in which was a pain but apart from that i couldnt complain about anything. The staff were fantastic and when they took us out were very knowledgable and friendly, to make you feel welcome. Perfect location to see the Victoria Falls, you can walk to it!! The pool area is lovely and i didnt get bitten once whilst staying at this hotel, very relaxing environment. Food and drinks we had in-resort were simple, good selection on offer, and very tasty and reasonably priced. Would happily stay here again. My tips would be, 1) dont buy Zambian currency, just pay for your in-resort food/drinks etc by credit card - so much easier!! 2) the african sun is VERY strong-where factor 50 to prevent getting burnt (i normally wear 15 /20 and got burnt!)

Just spent three nights with the family at Zambezi Sun, firstly the good... Wonderful reception, friendly great staff, brilliant buffet for Breakfast and Dinner (really good selection and nice and fresh - well done), literally 3 minute walk to the falls (stunning) and all beautifully presented in the common areas. The bad, phew but the rooms could do with an upgrade - being a 4 star i don't expect broken plugs, dirty dilapidated lampshades and greasy marked linen on the bed - Sun International 4 star rooms should be of a slightly higher quality!! I always judge a place by one criteria - would I go back to this hotel if visiting this location - probably not due 'only' to the room quality.

As with everything in Zambia, very expensive. However, Victoria Fall's (Mosi-Oa-Tunta) makes it all worthwhile. The Hotel has lush gardens with free roaming antelope and zebra, large swimming pool and open plan restaurant and island bar. You are only a few minutes walk away from the Fall's, the hotel has it's own entrance gate and the entry fee is included in the price of your room, so you can go as many times as you want. The room is pretty standard, like any other 3/4 star resort. The Squires restaurant makes a great steak, breakfast is plentiful, kids are taken care of for a few hours per day in the resorts Kids Club. The resort is about 6km from the town of Livingstone, a short taxi away. The sister Hotel, 5 star Royal, is in the same grounds and has a bar deck on the Zambezi River, nice for sundowners.

Stayed for 3 nights and visited the falls on many occasions as just a few minutes walk from the hotel. Nice hotel but had an initial problem with not accepting credit cards. Internet only free for 15 minutes per day in the lobby and a slow connection. Zebra and Peacocks roaming around the grounds - be careful of the monkeys which snatch food from the tables at breakfast. Went on falls walk ourselves on arrival - had great views and didn't get wet. The next day we had a guide for the falls tour which was very useful as discovered new viewing points. However even with rain coats we got soaked through.
Make sure that you visit the adjoining Royal Livingstone hotel for afternoon tea.
