“Amazing Location Minutes from the Falls!!!”
Reviewed October 31, 2011

I picked this hotel because of the location (5 min. walk to Victoria Falls) and I was not disappointed. You can even check out rain ponchos from the front desk for free (at least you could in 2008), which you may need depending on the winds which make an unbelievably strong mist that will soak you. I was amazed at how many animals roam through the hotel property to include giraffes, monkeys and zebra. You can lay out at the pool and watch the animals just migrate past you like you are on a safari. The breakfast buffet is amusing because the staff is constantly trying to keep the birds and monkey out of the food. My only complaint was that the rooms were very basic and needed to be sprayed for bugs.

One last tip--don't pay for a helicopter or airplane flight if you are flying into Livingstone's airport during daylight hours. Every flight that I saw (including my own) flies right over the Falls allowing you to snap photos.

Room Tip: I would request a second floor room which will most likely have less bugs than the first floor.

We spent 2 nights at this hotel and felt the rooms were adequate for such a short stay. However, we used our credit card once on our whole holiday and that was at the Zambezi Sun and our IDENTITY WAS STOLEN to buy flights to Indonnesia for £1500! DO NOT let your cardit card out of your sight. Soon after our arrival we ordered food from the pool bar and the food wasn't cooked properly and was quite expensive. We decided to eat at Squires on our first evening which is a lively tv bar but the food was good. The access to The Falls was excellent. Plus side for a bit of tranquility you can use all the facilities at the Royal Livingstone Hotel next door.

lovely location, but level of service poor. also, it's the only hotel i've ever been to that said that if i wanted a small jug of fresh milk for the tea in the room (i don't like the powdered creamer they provide), i'd have to order it, and pay for it, on room service!! also wasn't too keen on the large cockroaches in the room - mentioned these to a couple of members of staff, but they didn't seem too bothered!! we stayed in ten different hotels/lodges during our holiday, and this was the only one with a bed that gave me backache. i did like the choice of fresh fruit at breakfast, but didn't like being chastised by a member of staff for putting the bread into the toaster using my hands instead of tongs - i had to point out to her that there weren't any tongs (someone had moved them out of that area) felt she should have checked the tongs were there before complaining at me! also wouldn't have objected to her apologising for her mistake. also, the air conditioning in the room didn't work, but can't complain too much about that, as we couldn't face mentioning it to the staff so they didn't have the opportunity to rectify that for us. couldn't fault the service that the porters gave though.

Room Tip: choose a river facing room rather than a pool facing one as the view is a lot nicer!

We were shocked at how close the hotel was to the falls but when we heard how this hotel works with the local community we were pleased to stay here and support this hotel complex.

It was great to see the zebras giraffes and springbok walking in the grounds.

The bar and food was great

Zambezi Sun is great for visiting Victoria falls -walking distance! Rooms are comfortable and surroundings beautiful. Sadly the level of service is poor and uncomfortable, and the restaurant staff will hunt you down to sign the bills before, during and after dinner. The Internet connection was out of order but I had no need to work so it was acceptable.
I would still recommend this hotel as you can enjoy animal life such as birds and zebras on the grounds which is amazing. And yes-stay away from the dinner buffé!

I reached with a group of 20+ women after a long flight from Mumbai to Joburg to Livingstone. Got a great African welcome by dancers and were handed cold towels and a nice welcome drink with honey in it!!

We identified our bags and the luggage was brought to the room. The was small but well lit and had elements of African Art in it. It was all very bright and nice. The room had all basic amenities like tea/coffee maker, hair dryer etc. The bathroom had a tub and a shower cubical and had basic amenities one needs for a relaxing bath.

The best thing was the location of Zambezi Sun. This place is barely 3 minutes' walk to Victoria Falls and offers free unlimited entry that you get with your stay - This is a major highlight. Also you are able to use all the facilities at the much high end and nicer Royal Livingstone hotel next door and there is a free shuttle between the two, although it is only a short walk. We had dinner and drinks one night and came back very late :)

The Zambezi Sun has a great buffet breakfast. The spread has everything from cold cuts, egss to fruits to hash browns and varieties of breads and waffles and juice and cereals. The staff takes care of you nicely.

For lunches we went out to livingstone town. Here again the hotel front desk was of great help.we were 12 of us and they helped us to organize a mini bus and we got the same to livingstone town pick and drop at the same price as a cab would have costed 12 of us i.e. 60 USD.

For dinner the option are: Either you order Room service (limited options) Or go for the Buffet Dinner Or go to the Royal Livingstone (Sister concern) and have dinner there.

The hotel also has a great activity center and they can help you organize a lot of fun things to do. Many of the group members used the activity centre and did the following:

1. Swimming at the edge of the fall
2. Walk with the Lions
3. Sundown Cruise at Zambezi River
4. Walking Tour of Vic Falls

All in all its a nice place to stay and experience victoria falls at all its glory!

As a location for visiting the Falls you can hardly get closer. To be fair the hotel was very nice and a typical resort hotel with very nice and helpfull staff and the breakfast which was included was good. The one thing that lets it down is the cost of food in the restaurants. It became a principle thing with us after having what was an average burger at Squires the first evening not wanting to pay $43 dollars each for what by all accounts was a rather average buffet as we were not that hungry having had afternoon tea at the Vic Falls Hotel on our way through from Zimbabwe. They obviously work on the captive audience syndrome hoping people wouldn't want to venture into Livingstone to eat . We however, did, and we weren't the only ones, finding it cheaper to get a taxi there and back and have a meal and a few beers than the cost of one person for a buffet at the hotel, quite a significant savig especially if you have a family with you.Go to eat at Cafe Zambezi in Livingstone, try the goat curry, great atmosphere local feel.
