“Great Location.”
Reviewed October 4, 2011

The Southern Eagle Travel and Tours booked us at the Zambezi Sun as part of our 15 day African tour. I was told a trip to Africa had to include a visit to Victoria Falls so we asked it be included in our itinerary. We were quite pleased by the layout of this hotel and its amazing proximity to the falls. Our room was nice but small. The evening dinners were great but the lunch menu left much to be desired and the breakfast buffet was your standard fair. I loved that the hotel brought in musicians at meal time. It added a wonderful ambiance to the meals. We were surprised to see monkeys and baboons frequenting the place - all quite funny to see but I am sure the staff didn't like it. I can see why they warned all the guests to keep personal belongings inside the rooms and to keep the sliding doors closed. I went one step further and never opened ours. I wish I knew about the activities centre, we would have liked to have signed up for a guided tour of the falls. As it was, we were guided by one of the locals for a hefty fee, which we only learned about after the 3hr hair raising tour. The hotel has nothing to do with these tours but I would have liked to have some sort of warning about them or know about the legitimate options available to us. Do remember to put on your bug-lotion when going out in the evenings. We forgot to do just that and came back from the sunset cruise with bites all over our legs. I certainly recommend you stay here but keep in mind that you have to ask a lot of questions to get any answers. For example, we were told dinner would be in the dining hall yet I heard the staff talking about having the dinner by the pool. When I asked at the front desk, they assured me it was at the dining hall. It was only when I mentioned the conversation of the staff that the employee at the desk enquired further. After a short phone call, she confirmed that dinner would be at the pool. The dinner was excellent, as was the service. We would certainly return, if the opportunity came up again but would be more attentive to the activities the hotel offered and ask for a larger room.

Room Tip: A ground floor room is recommended.

Spent two nights here, clean rooms . Very helpful staff. The location
to the fall is absolutely the best. The Squires restaurant is the
better deal We were able to come and go to the fall anytime
which is GREAT. Look out for the Monkeys, will steal food,
but great fun

We stayed 3 nights in Zambezi Sun. It was safe, clean, with a very friendly and helpful staff , nice breakfast and wonderful location, but absolutely overpriced. I have had one personal problem and tried to solve it by hotel phone. They have included into invoice 15 dialed, but failed to connect attempts, 3,40 $ each. Their a la carte restaurante might be better.

We stayed at the Zambezi for three nights as part of our honeymoon. Without doubt the best thing is the location and the free access to the falls - we went at least once a day.
The staff were really helpful and friendly. Thd activity centre was great and the trips (ours were organised by bushtracks) were really well organised.
We used the shuttle to the Royal Livingstone on a few occassions and ate at the restaurant.
Breakfast at the Zambezi was plentiful and although they stop serving at 10.30 when we arrived back from morning trips were always able to get breakfast.
We ate at Squires once which was good value.

We stayed here whilst on our honeymoon in April '11, the hotel itself was very nice and the staff were fantastic. The rooms had everything you would really need. The thing that really made this hotel stand out was it's location and namely its proximity to the Victoria Falls. You could not get closer without sleeping on the falls themselves. It also benefits from having an excellent sister hotel (The Royal Livingstone) that has an absolutely fantastic restaurant.

We had a couple of hours sat by the pool at the Zambezi Sun and it was then that a family of Zebra's came past and they were so close I could have reached out and touched them. The wildlife around the Zambezi is in abundance.

I would stay here again.

We stayed here for 3 nights at the beginning of September. We had a standard rooom which was fairly spacious and had all the usual amenities. We particularly enjoyed the shower having previously stayed in a game lodge with an outside shower. We had two queen sized beds and a large bathroom. The room was exceptionaly clean. We discovered the management came and checked the quality of cleaning after the cleaners had left.
We found it difficult to find our way around the hotel as a map was not provided. While we were there there was only the buffet restaurant - which was situated at the pool and Squires Restaurant. Luckily , we knew about Squires(through trip advisor) as most people didn't know it was there (No map or info!) and ate there every night as we didn't want a huge amount to eat and pay the large prices for a buffet. Squires was very reasonable and the service was excellent.
We went on the Zambezi Queen for the Sunset Cruise which was amazing.
We were able to pop down to Victoria Falls as many times as we wanted. It was fairly quiet at this time of the year and the only downside to this was you were very vulnerable to Zimbabweans who had hoppe dover the border. One of the walks was right next to the border and we had a very unpleasant experience where we were accosted by 2 locals who forced us to buy some copper bracelets - I really thought we were going to be mugged. In hindsight it is best to only go where there are other people around. All in all we enjoyed our stay.
