Owner description: Africa's first genuine programme to ethically re-introduce the offspring of rehabilitated captive-bred African lion back into the wild, helping safeguard the future of the king of the beasts.

An experience which you will likely never have again in your life....but the moral dilemma of encouraging the practice of taming and training these gorgeous beasts is a very real and justifiable one. I was fascinated and overwhelmed, but at the same time, saddened and shamed.

One of the highlights of our trip - we walked with the lions and cheetahs - and the guides were so knowledgeable and friendly. Really great time, great photos, and you know you're putting your tourist money to a good cause should you go - and you should!

I loved it. We walked and "patted" two female lions Luva and Nellie. It was a unique experience and one I would throughly recommend. The guides were incredibly professional and I felt very safe at all times. My boyfriend on the other hand wouldn't even touch them. Funny.

Lion Encounter is part of a lion breeding program that introduces cubs in 4 stages to the wild. Personally I am a bit skeptical about the reintroduction of the cubs into the real lion world but the walk with the lions was amazing. After a comprehensive introduction to the breeding programme and safety instructions the 2 of us (everybody else went for the elephant tour) went for a walk with two 11 months old lions, definitely not playful cats. Our guides and lion handlers Friday and Skinny were very knowledgeable. Never walk in front of lions of this age, always besides or slightly behind. There were plenty of photo opportunities, no cuddling of a lion, not petting the head, just stroking the back. During the entire walk a Video was taken which at the end of the walk was shown to us and we bought the DVD for 40 US$, definitely worthwhile when considering the unique encounter with these lions.

To walk with Lions is something I never thought would be possible but here it is. Felt very safe at all times as each of the 3 lions we walked with had a handler who was always close by. Our guide, Skit (sorry cant remember if this is his name but it was something like that), was always nearby and gave us plenty of info on each of the lions - he's also a really great photographer and took gat pics on our camera. Absolutely loved the experience and will treasure it forever.
