“A little bit of paradise”
Reviewed March 22, 2012

A completely chilled out 6 nights in a wonderful, spacious and well equipped tent. I wanted for nothing during my stay - lifts into town, tours, wonderful food. The site is beautiful (even in the rainy season) with the distant roar of the Falls and the not so distant roar of the occasional lion. Highly recommended and looking forward to returning to this little piece of paradise on Earth.

i booked Prana House for our family of five (not the tents) for 3 nights in mid Dec 2011. Just looking at the website & photos online i was looking forward to our stay there as it seems to advertise itself as a comfortable place near to town. the first thing that surprised us was the location. although it is stated that the place is 4 km's on a dirt road from Lstone, the "road" is more like a bush track and not a road. After bouncing around on safari's roads for one week, the thought of getting more "african massages" was not welcome. the cost of a taxi is at least $10 each way so add that to your cost if you don't have your own car. I couldn't imagine what the "road" would be like when it has been raining for weeks. the taxi driver said the cost is double in the rainy season when the "road" is full of mud. It was a very hot day and upon arrival to the house it was clear that they did not prepare the house for us. the manager had to go "look" for the keys which took about 10-15 minutes, which is no big deal but after traveling with tired hungry hot kids it was a big deal. the staff had neglected to close the curtains to keep out the hot afternoon sun which made he temp in the house at least 100 degrees plus-unbearable. he house is quite large with plenty of living space but no air conditioning at all besides the bedrooms, It was extremely uncomfortable with the oppressive heat. they have 2 fans in the living room/dining room but it was so hot from baking all day that it didn't help much. the next thing we noticed was the bugs. i lived in zambia for 5 years in the bush and i know bugs. lots of bugs are not unusual in the rainy season but what was clear was that the doors and windows were left open by the cleaning staff for a long time judging by sheer numbers of flies and mosquitos. This is a house not a bush camp tent! The kitchen is well appointed with all the cooking utensils you need, but when the flies are swarming around it is hard to do anything. Usually rooms/living areas are sprayed at night to help wth mosquitos problems but their were so many that we just doused ourselves in deet at night. mosquito nets are provided in the bedrooms thank God! The staff seem to feel like they can walk in at any moment completely unannounced! The first time they walked in while we were in the swimming pool (more on the pool later), the second time was at 7:30 am completely unannounced! my wife and i were in our underwear and completely undressed just minutes before they came in to feed the 3 goldfish in the pond! that was when we decided to leave. we were uncomfortable, we were covered in bug bits and we didn't want to face the rough drives into town and back everyday. the pool looks great and it was the perfect temp to cool off, the only problem is that it is infested with water bugs! not that big a deal but the wife wasn't happy about that. just a little bit of chlorine in the pool would kill these bugs. as a send off, while packing, a huge massive spider had taken refuge inside one of our suitcases and jumped out and scared the wits out of the kids and wife. we left the Prana (Tarantula House my kids called it) and went to the zambezi sun which was fantastic. once back in the US i asked the owner if he would be willingly to refund one nights stay but he refused.
If you are a group of college kids or overlanders, the house might be suitable, but not for a family or anyone who is seeking a comfortable place to stay in livingstone, paying the amount of money they charge. their are so many other lodging alternatives which have far higher standards and understand that paying clients have certain expectations.

We at Prana are very sorry that this client chose not to continue their stay at Prana House & did not enjoy their stay with us.
We believe that perhaps they did not research Prana properly before their arrival. They chose to book into a fully self catered house, which clearly states on the website, is situated 10kms out of town, in the bush on a dirt road which is accessible all year round by two wheel drive, though admittedly it is bumpy! The taxis that we use will not double the price at any time of year. This client then arrived in a taxi, without their own transport & totally unprepared to self cater. Livingstone in December is the middle of our rainy season & is therefore very hot and wet, the open plan layout of the house would make air con in all the rooms impossible & we would never allow a client to turn up to this stunning house to closed curtains & dark rooms during the day. All the bedrooms are fully air-coned, and it has its own private swimming pool , for clients comfort, which is cleaned and chlorinated on a daily basis.
We offer daily cleaning staff & we provide spray and coils in every room, for mosquitoes, but it is left to the client to light as some of our clients prefer not to use them. We are proud to be an eco friendly, bush lodge & are happy to share the African bush with the local wildlife that surrounds us & hope our clients will too.
We are truly mortified by this review, as we are a family run business with 11 years experience in Africa & have never received such bad comments.
As these clients chose to move to a three star hotel, that I understand have air con in the bedrooms & not in any other areas , they certainly were not looking for the kind of bush experience that we are proud to offer at Prana.
Kind Regards Bev & Andy Welch

Stayed at Prana in one of the 'tents' at the end of April 2011. It was one of the most enjoyable experiences abroad we have ever had. The en-suite tent was perfect for our needs. The 4km drive down the track from the main road meant the location was remote and quiet - just how we like it ! We did trips to Chobe, Vic Falls, helicopter ride over the Falls and evening cruise on the Zambezi. Everything was organised for us by Andy and Bev and all arrangements/pick-ups went like clockwork. It is difficult to properly describe how much we enjoyed our stay and would love to go back as soon as possible. Seeing Bev again after 26 years (!) was great !

we Richard and monique from the Netherlands made a holidaytrip in zambia and stayed
3 nights at Prana place.
the tent was very comfortable, beds fine and the food was great. I choose for a few days vegetarian and it was delicious. thanks mr Fannwell.
the private yogalesson was so good for stressrelieve and then the massage, Brenda she has golden hands, had never such a fine massage.
this place makes you feel good, in the middle of nowhere, swimmingpool clean and refreshing, it is a pity that Prana camp is so far away from Holland.

Christmas is a busy time in Livingstone. Famous for Victoria Falls and every adventure activity under the sun, the little town bursts at its seams with backpackers in scruffy clothes and dreadlocks, upmarket travellers in designer duds... and last year my family and a gaggle of friends! I must admit that I wasnt expecting all that much when I found out that we were only paying $50 per person per night but could not resist the idea of having the entire camp to ourselves. Prana is fab! The camp has a three bedroom cottage and four en suite tents. The management made up a huge christmas bed for all the kids and lent us a lovely chap called Fana who was at our beck and call and a pretty good cook - giving the words self catering a slighty more lazy meaning. (never having to wash dishes is a definite win) The cottage has a decent size swimming pool, DSTV and internet - it is only 10 minutes from Victoria Falls and town... but COMPLETELY private on top of a hill overlooking Livingstone. They also have a fully qualified yoga instructor (gorgeous yoga studio) and a great spa menu available on the property. Thank you so much to the owners Bev and Andy for letting us share in this fab new little secret on the hill!
