Bad experience. This place must not even been shown on the web!! When we arrived there, there was a church meeting next to our camping site. We were the only campers. Seems like the place is been rent out to locals and very unsafe. There were no other campers. No water. No privacy, Underfed dogs, gunshots. Terrible we moved out there as quickly as possible

We were welcomed by Tjisse and the welcome was very warm. We booked a deluxe campsite which comes with a private shower and toilet.
Food was very nice, we loved the meals of Newton.
Newton was a real charm, very polite and working hard indeed.

Previous reactions might not take into consideration what the cost for this site is.
Livingstone is quite a popular place and yet we were able to stay here for just US $ 12 per night (Camper and 2 persons). This was by far the cheapest site we visited in Zambia.
On just cannot expect to have an accommodation like the Ritz for that kind of money.

If you are looking for a no-nonsense nice place to stay, this is the spot for the Livingstone area!

This place is so bad the we did not even stay there! We picked the lodge from it's website and what you see online does'nt come even close to showing you how appalling the lodge actually is.

When we arrived there were scrawny local dogs and chickens running through the reception area - not a good start! A quick walk through the facilities showed an extremely run down bar / restaurant (a generous description) and the pool was nothing but a mosquito ridden swamp. The owner eventually arrived and if you were'nt knocked out by his nicotine breath the unshaven chin etc was enough to give us concern. We were shown the "bush cabin" allocated to us - the linen was damp and none to clean, there was another mosquito infested swamp right next to the verandah and ...... you get the picture.

We went back to reception and informed the owner - Chester / Tsissje (sp) that there was no way in heaven that we were staying there and demanded a full refund - which, after much humming an hawing we eventually got for the accommodation. The elephant safari that we had booked and paid for was honoured (confirmed later when we got settled in new accommodation - the Zambesi Sun - pricy but really nice) - but it did take a bit to get the refund out of him!

Do NOT go near this place.

Where do I begin?

I could not recommend less a hotel to stay at in Zambia than this poor excuse for a shabby run-down halfway house.

I can say without victimisation that you visit this hole at the risk of a wasted tariff, a poor meal, uninformed service and a sleepless night.

That is not to say the establishment is without its charms - the cute resident dogs had given birth to a litter of adorable pups just outside the kitchen amongst the rubbish.

Upon arrival (at 6pm) we had to wait for our 'villa' to be ready - I believe there was only one other guest so I cant see the problem. The 'villa' was little more than a delapidated straw hut with stairs to a second level which gave as much security as standing on board the sinking Titanic.

The room itself was rife with mosquitoes and tetanus on every rusty doorknob, and there was only one tiny window filtering in the normally beautiful African light. A back door to the terrace, the villa's only redeeming feature, was locked with no key provided. The 'villa' was the furthest away from reception (we had to carry our own bags in the morning) and the closest to the local village/ brothel which decided to have the party to end all parties that night.

And then the '3 course organic dinner' was little more than boiled/ fried canned goods dressed up as 'local fair'.

As commented elsewhere the owners contumelious behaviour towards the staff is reproachable. However I would on this one occasion support the bahaviour, based on the following account.

We asked the local staff for a taxi to go to the Victoria Falls Airport - their response: 'ah yes there is only one airport here, taxi will take you'. Now Victoria falls airport is in Zimbabwe - so imagine our surprise when the taxi arrives at Livingstone Airport - an airport in the wrong country! It was too late to drive back, so we were left to make arrangements and endure stress.

This is compound the fact that the taxi charged us double the USD20 they quoted us.

You have been warned - there are a plethora of cheaper, nicer, more convenient places in and around Livingstone - try the Bushfront, the Waterfront... or any other place.

Livingstone is a wonderful town to spend time. Different places call it self Livingstone hotell and lodge, we were confused when booked the Livingstone Lodge to find it was not what we expected. On coming in det här hotellet we just wanted to leave, food was bad, noisy music and bugs every where we go.
Till Royal Livingstone Hotellet and Zambezi Hotellet was good option.

From Canada: My wife and I have stayed at the Livingstone Safari Lodge and Campground on two separate occasions in 2007 and again in 2008. Whenever we travel, the most important features of our accommodations are good price, friendly service, and a chance to get to know the culture of the country we are visiting. At the Livingstone Safari Lodge, we found all three. Tjisse, the somewhat eccentric owner, made us feel as though he was our personal host. Josephine at the front desk, Peter at the bar, and Milton in the restauant, all made us feel like part of a family.

Zambia is described as the 'real' Africa, and the Livingstone Safari Lodge is 'real Africa accommodation', with lovely individual lodges with balconies and outdoor showers, a beautiful grounds, and an adventure each and every day. This lodge isn't five star but the interaction with the staff, the possibility of an elephant crossing the grounds, and good food, make it a place not to miss.

Thanks everyone - we look forward to seeing you again soon.

We had a rushed trip to Livingston to see as many sights as we could in 3 days. We found Chester and the staff very helpful and friendly and they managed to assist us to fill in our stay with a lot of sightseeing trips. Two of the boys also very proudly gave us a guided tour of their village and we enjoyed this experience immensly. The staff were also very friendly and Chester was very helpful and allowed us to use his internet to contact family.
The chalets were very comfortable and spacious.
We would recommend the Lodge for any tourists who are wanting a friendly, middle of the road accommodation.
