“Luxury on the banks of the Zambezi”
Reviewed September 10, 2013

We stayed here after a problem with our reservation meant that we could not be accommodated their sister hotel the Thorntree. Because the problem was theirs they went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable, including upgrading our room to a suite with a Jacuzzi. The room was fabulous, with 2 balconies, a living room, bar area, guest bathroom and large bedroom and bathroom and yes a jacuzzi in the middle of the room. Our kids stayed in a standard double room and it was also very nice, a good size with its own balcony and spa like bathroom. It seemed that everyone in the hotel knew of our situation and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening cruise on the Zambezi. The cruise included unlimited drinks and appetizer type snacks. It was a wonderful relaxing way to spend our last day of holidays before beginning the journey home. We had lunch and dinner at the hotel and found the food to be very good, a good selection and very tasty. The hotel is in a lovely setting with a good sized patio area and infinity pool right by the river.

On arrival the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The place is right on the river and is very pretty. Our rooms were lovely and clean and had a fab view. We did the sunset cruise and it was amazing! We saw hippos, crocs and elephant. The pool is great but the water is absolutely freezing! I thought the food was quite expensive but you don't really have any other option, it was good though. I would definitely return here.

Worst value for money ever experienced (staying almost every week on hotels for business). Premium prices ($500 per night) for poor/average hospitality. Sample list:
1. Shuttle from airport was late
2. No mosquito net for additional bed (needed GM intervention)
3. Dirty rooms (including the fridge)
4. Dinner buffet at cafeteria level
5. An hour wait for simple lunch order
6. Extra wrong charges

What a fabulous place to celebrate the end of our safari, lovely rooms, great service, nice food.
The staff were very attentive and friendly. The buffet meals were interesting with a good mix of different dishes, it was good to try local delicacies. The staff were willing to ensure that we could still get breakfast after an early game drive that finished late.
The shuttlebus drivers were very accommodating in getting us to the falls and into Livingston, William was very helpful in suggesting places to see and assisting us through to the Zimbabwe side.

We stayed for 2 nights in June. The location on the river is superb. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. Our room was clean and comfortable. I did not like that there are steps down into the room and up into the bathroom. Nor did I like that the room was not dark at night making it more difficult to sleep. The draperies are not the type to screen out light. The lodge offers many services and can arrange many different activities if you wish. We ate several times at the lodge and found the food excellent. I especially was amused by the fruit bats in the evenings especially the ones outside our room who left pits on the balcony and furniture. The maids must get tired of cleaning up after them! The lodge is located a little away from the falls but we liked that and it was convenient for all of our activities. We had awesome sunsets each evening which added to the experience immensely. A great overall stay.

I read some of the reviews before I went to stay at the hotel, and had some preconceived notions. Upon my arrival until the time of my checkout, I was treated beyond great. The staff at the resort are excellent from the management down. Very friendly and attentive to any need. The managers Ken and Robert could not have been better and the their staff followed suit. I read some reviews about the food. You should know that they have a new chef and the food was outstanding. If you are staying in the area, I highly recommend this resort. I can not comment on the spa, I did not take advantage for that, but if it is like the rest of the resort, you will be pleased.
