“The perfect wedding venue”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2013

Our daughter and son-in-law chose this venue for their wedding in May. When we first saw the hotel our jaws dropped open, it is SO beautiful and the view of the Zambezi is amazing. Having said that, it is very close to Livingstone town and the Falls, unlike some of the other lodges which can involve a lengthy drive to get anywhere. We stayed three nights at the hotel, whilst other members of our family stayed up to a week and made the most of all that Livingstone has to offer. All the wedding party guests were accommodated in rooms in one area of the hotel which made things much easier for us all. The rooms were large and beautifully appointed with splendid views of the river. The monkeys were a bit of a nuisance if the balcony doors were not closed on leaving the room, but we were warned in advance by the staff to be careful about this. The wedding was perfect, with the ceremony held on a quiet grassy bank of the river away from the main hotel area, then post-ceremony drinks/speeches on a deck overlooking the Zambezi as the sun was setting over the river, and the spray of Victoria Falls could be seen in the background. Dinner (divine!) was served on the main dining deck which we had been allowed to decorate as our daughter wanted. The details were all managed to perfection by Robert, who ensured that everything ran to plan behind the scenes, leaving us to enjoy the day totally. To sum up the day: simple, stunning, romantic!! We could have happily stayed on to enjoy the hotel for much longer, but we had plans to move on to Chobe for a short safari with family. We have the most wonderful memories of the David Livingstone and will definitely return on our next trip to Zambia.

Room Tip: First floor recommended for views and quieter

First trip to Africa with my family. We were unsure where to stay/what to do but I am forever grateful we found this place. Check in was easy and we were met with a warm greeting from the staff. Rooms were large, comfortable, very clean and cozy. The food...ooh the food was incredible. Dinners were great and breakfast had many options. Since we needed lots of direction on things to do the staff was incredibly helpful in coordinating all our tours/events and everything went smoothly. Lounging by the pool was the most relaxed I've ever been. Also, make sure to take a sunset cruise on the river. We saw elephants, hippos, giraffes and more just from the boat and was very peaceful. It's almost been a year since we visited and me and my family still talk about how amazing this place was. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone, I can't wait to return!

This was our first stop our trip and what a start!

The staff is very friendly and check in was a breeze!

The rooms are amazing, each with its own little balcony. The bed was very comfortable and the the room was quite spacious. The room has a view of the river, which you can enjoy with a morning coffee on the balcony.

The resort is general is very clean and the staff is attentive. We had 1 dinner there and it was average at best. The breakfast however, was quite the opposite! A great selection and very good standard.

The pool area is nice to relax and lounge around and you can see the mist of the falls from there as well as get great views of the sunset! We also got to hang out with the resident monkeys (harmless - but can take things) and the crocodile that lives in the little pond.

We did the boat cruise from the hotel. It was nice, the food served not the best - but they encourage you to have as much alcohol as you can handle!

I would recommend shopping around for booking the activities. You cannot negotiate the prices at the hotel and we thought the prices were a bit higher. However, if you are pressed for time - this option could be the best.
We used the spa - we booked a package deals. The prices were pretty good so its a good place to get as many massages as you want after the days activities!

The only issue we had with the hotel was finding out how to get to it! There is no clear sign where you need to turn off the main road and we had to call and ask around for a while.

The location is great - once you find it. Its close enough to the falls as well as to the main market (but not too close, which is what we wanted as we also had our own car).

Would recommend this hotel and would go back!

We spent four days at the lodge which was enough to see the falls and the town of Livingstone and still leave some time over for relaxing by the pool.
May turned out to be a good time for the trip: It was before the peak tourist season and the falls were full.

Our priorities were:
A lodge with a relaxed atmosphere.
A room with a view of the river.
Transportation to and from the airport, the town of Livingstone and the falls.
Assistance in booking activities such as the microlight flight over the falls and advice on other local activities.

All these requirements were met and then some.

The staff was a delight - uniformly helpful and friendly. (They smiled a lot.)
The menu selection was more than adequate and the quality was excellent. (We had the breakfast and dinner option included in our booking.)
The room was clean and quiet. We had a good view of the river and could watch the monkeys and baboons playing in the trees. We were very happy there.

Other points
The view from the pool area was great: The mist from the falls was visible and we occasionally saw elephants on the island across the river from the lodge.
The included sunset boat cruise was unexpectedly nice. It lasts two hours and includes free drinks and snacks. We saw elephants, buffalo, birds, bush buck, warthogs, and (maybe?) a crocodile. Spectacular African sunset. Great!

Tips for things to do:
Get up late at night and go out. Look for bats (they are light-colored and quite large), and owls. If you have a head-lamp look for "red-eyed monsters" in the trees. (Turns out these were bushbabies.)
Take a walk through town on your own. We felt safe. (If there aren't a lot of tourists, be prepared for some hi-pressure salesmen at the curio stalls and on the street.)
We were glad we did the microlight falls tour (and not the helicopter). It was well worth the expense.
In the Vic Falls National Monument site, the hike down to the boiling pot through the rain forest was worth the effort. If you hike around the falls it can get pretty wet. Bring a bag for your camera.

Travel tips:
The local currency is the Kwacha. We got a better exchange rate at the exchange bureaus, not the banks. (Ask the shuttle driver.) In town and at the Falls Monument entrance they only take Kwatcha. Be prepared to pay for your visa fee in U.S. dollars (~$50.00 per person, single entry).
If bringing prescription drugs, our travel agent recommended having a copy of your prescriptions or a letter from your doctor listing them. (Seems silly and we weren't asked.)
Although some bartering is expected at the curio stalls, don't be too cheap. The country is quite poor and a few extra Kwatchas helps.
At the lodge they seem to distinguish between "tips" and "service charge". The service charge was included in the bill. We were told the service charge is for staff wages and was mandated. Tips were still optional. These are pooled and shared by all the staff. (We just left an envelope with the desk on departure.)

Cons:
There were only two minor things:
The shower door didn't seal at the bottom. We had to put a towel against it to keep the floor dry.
They do mosquito spraying of the grounds every couple of weeks with a big fogging machine. They don't seem to know what the chemical is, but it's not nice to breath. (We had no problem with mosquitoes, though.)

Room Tip: Our room was on the second floor in the third block (downriver end). This block is quieter and has...

Rooms were neat and clean. Tours were easily faciliatated on site and front desk staff were extremely professional.people were friendly humble and polite. Only annoying thing was the bees during dinner. They would swarm around the buffet table with you have to constantly brush them of your plate.

Beautiful hotel, Excellent location.

Excellent standards of customer service. Although, it would be nice if the staff actually smiled a bit more. They all appear very serious!

The quality of the meals is exceptional.

Make sure you take the Lady Livingstone sunset cruise. Its the best!

I treated myself and my little son to two nights in one of the most amazing suites one could imagine! The suite is out of this world, with a jacuzzi placed right in the center of the room between the bedroom and the lounge! WOW! It has a window at floor level, so that you can sit and watch the river whilst enjoying your jacuzzi! There is a kitchenette with a full cappuccino maker! Two television screens, which have dual controls .... so we could both enjoy our own movies at night. Two beautiful private balcony's open up onto the river from the bedroom and the lounge. It is just an amazing experience all round. The hotel itself is stunning. It certainly has the best pool in Livingstone! Highly recommend a day lazing at this pool. The food was fantastic as was the service. Their spa is simply divine and I had a few treatments as well as enjoyed the steam room after a massage. Love, Love, Love this hotel!
