“The Sunrise Resort in Mui Ne was an amazing little find”
Reviewed October 1, 2008

After leaving the madness of Saigon we were hoping to find a little haven for some r&r in Mui Ne and when we stumbled upon this brand new hotel we really hit the jackpot!!

We have just spent four days here and wish we could stay longer as it's been wonderful.

We were initially booked into another resort (The Sunshine Resort) in Mui Ne which is very close to here, but after a few unhappy days there had a wander around and found this one - see separate review for more info on issues at our initial hotel.

From the road this place doesn't look like much, but once you make it past reception (which for us took some persuading as they don't let just anyone wander in here off the street, which is good as it proves they are security consious) you'll be pleased with what you see.

The best way I can think to describe the layout of the hotel is like a luxury motel. The rooms are in blocks down each side of the pool with their windows/doors opening out onto the central pool/jacuzzi area. We did wonder if we'd like this as you don't have a balcony/your own outside private area, but to be honest the areas to relax around the hotel itself are so nice it's not been a problem. Even in the rain the rooms are great as you can watch the rain hit the pool and beach with lots of space to relax inside in.

The rooms themselves are huge with great beds (most have a double and single in them), a TV with French and English channels, aircon, minibar, good storage and a nicely laid out bathroom. The only downside is the shower, which has lashings of hot water but not much pressure, but it's good enough as you can take the showerhead off the wall to hold it very close to you if needs be.

Breakfast , free SPEEDY wi-fi, tax etc... is included in the price (we paid $30 per night), and it's all been brilliant.

The hotel has it's own bit of beach which is really clean with nice shaded areas. And you can merrily sit on the beach or by the pool and watch the kite-surfers stun you with their tricks. The sea is a tad rough but most people seemed happy swimming in it and the water was really clean.

The location is great as there are lots of restaurants nearby - our favourite was "Hoang Vu" to find it turn right out of the hotel walk a short while and you'll see all the fairy lights and outside BBQ area, believe me it does great BBQ food with fresh seafood. And you can walk along the beach in either direction to rent/learn to surf/windsurf or kiteboard. My husband had kite-surfing lessons at Jibe's and they were briliant too.

All in all this is a fabulous place which we'd come back too, the people here are really friendly and you don't get hassled even when you're lying on the beach!!

It's a small hotel but HUGE in welcome and facilites.

Stayed September 2008

After arriving into Mui Ne late at night, our previous Hotel (Hiep Hoa) had given our room away at last minute and so we were stranded. We walked up the road, and found availability at Sunrise Resort. The lady at the front desk told us she had a room for 30 USD a night and we gladly accepted. The rooms are big, spacious and come with air conditioning and television. The pool is well kept and clean, and the view to the ocean is really beautiful. Breakfast was average, serving mostly eggs and bread. There are some lounde chairs by the pool, and some umbrellas for shade. We did thoroughly enjoy our stay at this hotel, until it was time to check out. Suddenely, the price had risen from 30 USD a night to 45 USD a night. We told them that only 2 nights ago we had been told 30 USD when we arrived, and why the change? They said the prices had never changed, that each room is a different price depending on how close to the ocean it was. We told them that we had specifically asked for the 30 USD a night when given the option between that and and a 45 USD one closer to the ocean. They said that some rooms were 30, (closer to the main road) and some where 60 (closer to the ocean) and we told them that we were never given this explanation, we were just told our room would be 30 USD a night and then we were given our key. After much discussing, the owner was not willing to hear us out and charged us 45 USD a night on our credit card. We had befriended an American-Vietnamese couple who spoke fluent Vietnamese and English, and they had told us that we were in fact correct and that our room was listed as 30 a night and not 40, and that this owner was blantantly ripping us off cause we were foreigners. Although we enjoyed our stay here, this left a sour taste in our mouths being charged an extra 15 bucks a night, in a country where that price is unheard of! If you do end up staying here, make sure you clarify how much you are spending a night and dont get ripped off by these guys!
