“Lovely for relaxing and getting away from it all”
Reviewed April 10, 2009

A bit pricier and a fair way from the main centre of Danang but if you want somewhere to chill out for a couple of days this place is perfect. The breakfast buffet would have been the best we came across. Lovely staff and the karaoke rooms were nice and private. A great place to relax.

I have stayed at the Sandy Beach 3 times and it's grown on me. The rooms are nice, and I do recommend the bungalows or villas. You're right on a nice stretch of beach, and there are 2 big (if not deep) pools. It's excellent value compared with the nearby Furama, although the quality and selection of food is somewhat limited. Stick to the Asian dishes and you'll be OK. Each room has free wi-fi and are well-appointed although the furniture's a little dated. Hoi An is about a $12.50 taxi ride, Da Nang about $7.00 - or use the once a day hotel shuttle.

This place has really good food, good service staff, a great pool, is close to the beach and has great international entertainment.

It's close to the Amazing Marble Mountains which is an absolute MUST SEE. My Lonely Planet guidebook barely mentioned the Marble Mountains but it's definitely worth the 5 minute walk from the sandy beach resort. The resort is just outside of Da Nang on a beautiful beach. It's about a 10-15 cab ride into Hoi An which is where you should get clothes made if you're into getting tailored made clothes. The Sandy Beach has free shuttle rides into Hoi An everyday.

I would highly recommend the Sandy Beach resort for anyone looking for a relaxing, American-style stay in Vietnam.

I would however, warn you not to get a massage in the spa. The fellow I had was clearly inexperienced and gave me a very uncomfortable massage. Also- many hotel guests use the jacuzzi naked which makes it quite uncomfortable if you prefer to sit in hot tubs with bathing-suit-wearing strangers.

I stayed here with my girlfriend for 3 nights and absolutely loved it. We had a regular room in the main building. It was nicely apportioned, spacious, and very clean. Also had a very nice ocean view. The property is right on the beach with plenty of shaded beach chairs. It also has an infinity pool that overlooks the ocean. We found the poolside service to be excellent. We ate a couple of lunches and dinners during our stay and thought the food was adequate. The breakfast buffet was very nice.

The location itself is fairly isolated. The marble mountain is within walking distance, but not much else is. We rented a motorbike to cruise around and enjoyed a nice afternoon in Hoi An, which is a short drive away.

The resort wasn't too busy when we were there, so it felt like we had the place and the beach to ourselves, which we particularly enjoyed. This is definitely not a party spot and should be avoided if you are looking for your typical phuket resort scene. However, if you are looking for a comfortable place to lay around on the pool or beach without being bothered, while still having all of the comforts of a modern hotel, I'd highly recommend it.

Rooms were spacious and clean. Bathroom was small but clean. The hotel tried really hard to make it seem upscale. Food was OK. Staff hovered over shoulder for our entire dinner and didn't feel like you could talk privately. There was a loud function/banquet in the restaurant and could be heard loudly in our rooms. Beach and pool looked OK, but the bad weather kept us inside for the one night we stayed there prior to our flight home. I don't know if there are any better hotel options until the Western hotels are completed. We did not like staying in government hotels, but there are not many options. We did not see the inside of the Furama to compare it to.

We stayed at this resort 3 nights and we wont' come back. At the time that I contacted the hotel to make the booking directly with them I found Joyce was quite rude and unprofessional. I should have picked up the vibe then. We found there is one particular female reception staff that was quite rude and overcharged me at every opportunity she can. The breakfast is nothing to write home about, it was raining so we ordered room service and could not beleive the serving was so tiny. Overall, it was not enjoyable for us to stay at this reosrt on the top of this they insisted us pay for the two beers that we did not consumed - Stay away.

  • Liked — The manicurists - they are nice girls
  • Disliked — The front desk staff spolied it

Stayed in a beachside bungalow, beach is lovely and lives up to the name of the resort. You can wander unhassled for quite some way.

However, rest of resort is pretty average other than the nice garden environment.

Breakfast is pretty limited as indeed are all the menus. If you have dinner, the staff are pretty keen to see you off from the restaurant after dinner, continually reminding you of the closing time. This has happened to me twice at this resort on separate occasions. Not the place to come if you're a foodie !

Pool is not bad although its a wading not swimming pool.

Checkout was disappointing. They insisted on holding us 10 min after the bill had been paid until a room check had been completed. Doesn't exactly make you feel welcome.

This place is worth coming to for the beach bungalows only - far better priced than a room at say the Furama from which you may not even be able to see the sea, let along walk straight out to it. But apart from that, wouldn't recommend it.
