“Spectecular view”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

I love the details of the hotel, the interior is just awesome. The view is totally breathtaking. I went there for breakfast before leaving to Hoi-An. It's pretty good meal. I enjoyed the coffee and everything. I hope my friend and I had a chance to stay there next time, as we booked, but they didn't allow theree people to fit in one room. That's pretty sad. So, we decided to book somewhere else instead.

Rooms: Stunning, huge, and breathtaking views of the bay. The furniture and fixtures are exceptional, and the Harnn bath products are to die for. The balcony was also enormous. And I had a low-end room.

Spa: I had the best 90-minute massage of my life here. The spa facility isn't finished so they just take you to a guest room set up with the massage beds. Bummer not to be able to see the spa, but don't let it deter you; as soon as your eyes are closed you'll be transported. You book your treatment at spa reception and arrive at the same place for your appt.,, and then hop on the golf cart to the actual room.

Food & Bev: Expensive, but delicious. Happy hour is from 5 to 7; buy one cocktail, get one free! I recommend the Long Bar for happy hour. The swinging chairs and big bed-sofa-chair things are super comfy. The Vietnamese coffee at breakfast is to die for, as is the pho.

Sunset: can't really see it from this property. If you're a sunset freak, you may potentially be disappointed.

Service: impeccable. I walked everywhere & never called the golf cart (except when checking out with luggage), but I saw them buzzing around everywhere. There is the Nam Tram too, if you don't like stairs.

Beach: empty and pristine. Water was chilly in Feb., but not too cold to swim. Kayaks, paddleboards, etc. My only suggestion: please send the drink waiters to the beach! It's a pain getting up and down when you're trying to relax.

Room service: fast & delicious.

Outlets: U.S. plugs work without converters.

Going to Hoi An: took a taxi one morning. Took 45 mins; felt completely safe (as a solo female traveler); cost about $30. Very little to see on the way, but once you get there it's cute. Very touristy, but cute. You definitely don't need more than a day in Hoi An. (And if you have been to Hanoi, you don't need any days in Danang City. Nothing to see there that you haven't already seen, better, in Hanoi.)

Bugs: bring bug spray, if you can. The mosquitoes are hungry.

All in all, this is a relatively remote little piece of luxury, good for relaxation and being left alone. The only place I would stay in Danang.

Room Tip: I had an allegedly low-end room, and it was nicer than my house (or any other hotel I've been to...

Although we haven't stayed at the resort since we live near Hoi An, we have had brunch a few times at Citron, which was good but not great. Because we love the design and ambiance of the resort itself we decided to try La Maison 1888 as a post-Valentine's Day treat. In a word it was superb! The decor of the dining room is lovely and the service was excellent, attentive but unobtrusive. But the real surprise was the food. It is very difficult to find high quality western food in Vietnam, even in HCMC or Hanoi. La Maison is definitely the finest restaurant we have been to in Vietnam or Thailand, and equals some of the best in Hong Kong or Singapore. We had the tasting menu in order to get an overall feeling for the standard of cuisine. From the amuse-bouche to the dessert everything was carefully prepared and presented. A major problem in Da Nang with Western restaurants is the quality of ingredients which can be sourced. In this case everything seemed fresh and/or of a very high standard. The fois gras, lamb, and beef were all excellent. The sea bass was beautiful. The only disappointment was the cheese and I think that was more down to our choices from the board than the quality of the cheeses themselves. And although La Maison is expensive for Vietnam (we spent a bit over USD 300, about 1/3 of which was wine), we have just returned from a few weeks in France and Italy where we would have been perfectly satisfied to have found cooking of this standard for a similar price. Hopefully La Maison 1888 will manage to continue to maintain its high standards. If so, we will be making regular visits!

Room Tip: Arrive a bit early and have a drink on the terrace to enjoy the beautiful views over the ocean.

I came with 3 other friends to see what the rave was all about, well this place is awesome! The new property has views to die for as I thought I was in Heaven. The receptionist, a Hospitality intern student from Switzerland, took the time to show our group the premises. We had dinner at the Citro and the buffet and food selection was excellent. Better than most of my Las Vegas food buffets which I consider among the best in the world. I still cannot believe that a resort and rooms are built into a mountain. Thank you for an awesome experience as I shared multiple photos on my facebook page so that my friends back in the US and around the world could appreciate it as well.

We stayed a couple of nights here and were ready to leave. While the NEW property has a breathtaking (literally considering it is built on a mountain) view, it had some major kinks with service and attention to detail.

Pros
-Rooms. The 'standard' room we were in was huge. Beautiful furniture and well-laid out with an amazing view. The tub with it's view alone was the highlight of the room! Beds were gigantic. My husband is 6'4 and we had room to spare! The architecture was stunning in general.
-Beach. Beautiful, whitish sand, clear water. Landscaping was flawless.

Cons
-SERVICE. It wasn't terrible, but when you compare it to other hotels in the area (many for much less) it was pathetic. There was no beachside/poolside service for drinks or food. You even had to walk over to the towel stand to ask for a bottle of water. Isn't that their job? We had to call 3 times to get more water for our room. I know it just opened, but shouldn't they have this stuff worked out before people are paying large amounts of money? Everyone was nice that tried to help us, but it seemed like they weren't trained enough or something.
-It is really far from town and they don't have a lot organized on the property to do. There were a few basic watersports we had them drag out for us (reluctantly). They need to get more activities or work out service kinks so you don't feel trapped. I don't like having a ton of activities, but it just felt like something was lacking. You are around 30-45 minutes away from town or another resort, which...is also something we liked too.
-Asking everywhere we went what room we were. It got to the point where it felt a little accusatory. Did they really need to ask us which room everytime we got a new towel or a bottle of water?
-Food. Eh. We didn't eat at the LaMaison 1888 restaurant, but everything else didn't wow us. The buffet breakfast was very nice, but nothing amazing.

Overall we wouldn't stay there again and I think that other high-end hotels in town (which there are a lot) offer more for your money and felt more personal. I hope the service improves!

Room Tip: Higher up rooms (ours was in the 300's) have a more breathtaking view-but much harder to hike up...

This place is wonderful - it has an instant 'wow' factor - we found a real gem. The location, the surrounds, the ambience, the amazing attention to detail - but above all the typically friendly Vietnamese staff really made our short stay wonderful and memorable.

seems that the architect that designed this hotel has to get all the merit. The place is just amazing. the rooms are fantastic. we often dine inroom on our private balcony overlooking the ocean. all the decoration of the hotel, the landscape, the beach are world level. so many different spot to chill out and have a glass of good wine. The pools are just so so. too small. and kind of boring. The bad comes with the staff. they are trying very hard to be nice and polite but they have no clue of what to do and what is expected from them. The food is very mediocre, small portions, and overpriced. since you have little or no choice to eat outside you feel trapped. i guess what is missing is a few western middle managers to train the staff. seems that the people on top have no much experience in asia and the peculiarities of staff management. No major incident except (safebox broken with all our valuble inside, roomservice opening end entering the room while we were nearly sleeping, 9.30pm because they want "to make up the room") but is just that you feel that such a beautifull place could improve so much if the staff was properly trained.

Room Tip: the premium room have a fantastic private balcony that you will really enjoy
