“the dinner was the highlight”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2012

When we arrived in the hotel the TV wasn't working but they fixed it straight away. The staff were very friendly. The main problem was the shower, there was NO water pressure so the water just trickled out. The dinner with other guests and staff members was a wonderful highlight. The food was beautiful and we had a great time trading travel stories. We used the bikes to ride into town and it was a great ride, it only took about 5 mins and then we were also able to ride around the town which was a great way to see it

We were upgraded on arrival to a deluxe bungalow as the hotel was not full and this was appreciated. The homestay was a 1km flat walk to the old town, or about 5 mins by bike which was provided free of charge. The grounds were beautiful and there was ongoing maintenance but it was not at all obtrusive. Breakfast was included and was perfectly adequate. We had friends staying nearby and there was no difficulty with them coming over to spend some time with us and use the swimming pool which was lovely. There was an unfortunate incident with a piece of laundry but the managament accepted responsibility and dealt with it fairly. We thoroughly enjoyed out stay and overall this homestay offered very good value for money. Recommended.

We stayed three rainy days at Betel Garden Homestay. Lovely quiet spot, just outside of the old quarter. Due to the bad weather we didn't use the free bikes and relied on taxis instead. Taxis were quick, easy and cheap into town and back, 30 000 dong each way which includes a tip. We tried a walk the first day, but in the rain, and I expect it would be the same in the sun, the walk is not very scenic and takes about 15-20 mins, better to save your legs for the old quarter. The grounds are very quiet and a nice haven after the streets of Hoi An. Having a little balcony is nicer than a confined hotel room. The pool is modern and clean and we made use of it even in the rain. The breakfast pavilion in a nice place for breakfast, and the breakfast is good - delicious smoothies and juices, but the pancakes are a little heavy. The rooms are spacious, big bedroom, big bathroom but a little tired. There have been recent efforts to modernise the bathroom fittings - shower head, basin, toilet and bath - but these have just replaced the fittings that were there. The overall tiling and flooring haven't been renovated and are older. Similar situation in the bedroom, fluorescent lights and basic mattress. Really needs a fresh coat of paint and new flooring. This all said, great value for money, you get what you pay for and if you want a renovated, modern room you need to pay more. Nice touches like daily fresh fruit, hot water in a flask to make tea, big umbrellas, and very helpful staff. A very good three star place, the grounds and setting four stars, at two star prices.

We stayed here for two nights during our trip in Vietnam. The staff were always friendly and attentive and the small little villas which the rooms were in were very cute. We liked the fact that there was a small veranda that we could sit in to chill out. Location is about 10 mins bike ride from the main part of town and it is easily walkable. So great place to stay with the only negatiairtime being the air con which at night, though switched off,it still seemed to make a bit of a clanking noise!

We stayed 2 nights in Betel Garden. Beside the excellent stay and breakfast we found a staff that was/is extremely helpful !
On the second day we used the free bike service to get to the beach (3 km). Unfortunatly during the trip one of our backpacks was stolen, and we needed an official declaration in order to apply for a new ID card on our return.
As the local police officer spoke only Vietnamees the staff offered spontaniously to accompany us to the police station. After 3 hours the declaration was written down (2 staff members stayed all the time at our side) but we couldn't get a copy !
The staff negociated a solution and finally they made a declaration in English + Vietnamees on their PC at the hotel and returned back to the police station the get is certified...
If you travel to Hoi An, look out for thieves on motorbikes when you are biking and book a room at Betel Homestay !

Betel homestay are lovely little garden rooms and villas with a great pool, close to town and not far from the beach. They have free bikes to use and its a great way to get around an see hoi an. The breakfast was one of the best in vietnam. The only thing that would have made this stay more enjoyable was a bit more shower water pressure! Highly recommend

Room Tip: We quite liked the upstairs room and it was even cheaper, we moved to the villa for the last two nig...

The service is fantastic, they did everything to make our stay pleasant, including looking after our daughters teddy which we left behind! Rooms are spacious and comfortable, the pool was a real hit with the kids, the food delicious, the free bike service a must in a slightly remote location, but a great idea and makes the location a plus!
