Owner description: Cham islands are 15km from Cua Dai. There are seven islands altogether named according to their shape or characteristics. They are called Lao ( pear ), Dai ( long ), La ( leaf), Kho ( dry ),Tai ( ear ),Mo ( tomb ) and Nom ( East Wind ). They have good climate, cool the year round, trees and animals as well as marine life are plentiful here. On the island, there are precious bird nests while under the water, the coral is marvelous. There are also scenic spots around the island, such as Suoi Tinh ( Love stream), Suoi Ong ( Sir’s stream ), Hon Chong ( Piled up rocks ),Hang Ba ( The lady’s cave ). the island is also surrounded by very nice beaches with clean white sand and transparent, cool water.

This was a quite nice trip, well organized by the Company. We was picked up by the hotel early in the morning, and we got on the boat in the harbour of Hoi An. It was very windy the whole day, so the big waves made some of us a bit sick. Be prepared for big waves, since the wind always blows by the coast in Hoi An (told by the locals). The boat stopped two places for diving and snorkeling. It was a bit cold, and the sea was not that clear (maybe because of the wind). We had a very good lunch at Cham Island, and a few hour with relaxation at the beach before we went back home. Remember to bring dry clothes (and a jacket), because it was a bit cold on the way back.

Thank Rakrias

have just spend the morning on Cham Island. Decided to do it on our own as all agents, hotels were quoting $30 per person for a tour. this included pick up, boat, snorkelling and lunch.
we got to the ferry port and got on the slow ferry for 100,000VND per person, reasonable until the staff collected the cash from the locals for trip which cost them 20,000VND pp.

ok, so still not bad but others had been charged 150,000VND that were also doing the trip themselves.

we got to the island about 9.40am, lost of market stalls selling shells and cooking sea food. we asked at the "tourist centre" what time boat left for hoi an, was told ferry was 11.30am but you could get an express speed boat at 1.30pm from the dock. we were not told the price as the woman did not know.
we walked to the Uhm beach, 900m away and that was okay but all the restaurants were geared and set up for tour parties. me and my other half walked along all of them trying to find somewhere for a drink, no one beckoned us in until we asked.....the same happened when we wanted something to eat.
Now returning was interesting, we walked back to the docks at 1pm to find the market shut, the tourist centre shut and NO boats!
there was one tour group that had just arrived so went to the boat to ask about getting to Hoi An.....to cut a long story short, we paid 500,000VND to get back an hour later having had to join a tour group from Singapore! we may have got back cheaper as we had found someone on the beach that said 150,000VND but as we walked back to the dock we missed that one but we had expected boats to be there.

nice place but needs more organisation.

Don't even think about it, from overpriced boat operators to a non-event place to visit you are better off spending your money $25 USD that you will spend on the boat ride on dinner for two with drinks at Seedlings in Hoi An. 4 of us went to the island and all had the same opinion, wasted time, wasted money.

We saw the pictures and read the reviews and said its A MUST see when in Hoi An. The hotel wanted $57 per person , hotel pick up, water, speed boat , seafood lunch and snorkeling. We checked on line and got the same trip for $25 per person...it didn't make any difference. It was a joke . Everyone is picked up and taken to the same area and board speedboats. 22 on our boat, like sardines in orange vests.you get out on a pier in a village that has no charm or soul. Walk through a paddy feild to see a Buddha and back through the village. This would take a normal person 15 mins max. They drag it out to 40 mins+.... You get back on the speed boat, of which there are now about 10, all packed with 20/22 people and head for the beach. The beach is around the corner... Quicker to walk and looks like a hurricane has just hit it. You can stay there or go to snorkel . I stayed with my husband and my daughter and boyfriend snorkelled . The reef was old and dead with nothing to see. The lunch was disgusting. The only good thing was it was now 12:30 and time to leave..... Save your money and time.
