Thanh Binh III Hotel
Ranked #138 of 170 Hotels in Hoi An
Reviewed June 8, 2012

Initial view is nice, however the fixtures and fittings are old tired and battered. Windows not closing properly, cables hanging out of walls, non working ceiling fans. The ac WAS good. The bed was comfortable and linen clean.

Breakfast was not good, service slow and buffet items replenished slowly if at all.

Cannot recommend the laundry, they lost items on the two occasions we used the hotel service, which took nearly 2 days to return. Hotel charges 2 to 2.5 times the over the street rate (who lost nothing and returned laundry clean and ironed 6 hours later

It is not that this is a bad hotel, it's location, just outside the old town is good, there is a refreshing reasonable sized pool, computers for those who don't carry their own, wifi has zoom weak or slow moments.

Room Tip: Go for the 2nd floor front rooms, they seem a little better, or not so dilapidated.

We walked around the corner to discover the Thanh Binh 3 hotel after mercifully escaping the damp/musty smelling Thanh Van hotel close by.There seems to be about 8-10 low priced hotels in this vicinity so it is an easy thing to walk around the area and room shop investing an hour or so.

A lot of the hotels in Hoi An have a musty smell to them because of the flooding that occurs in rainy season. Our room at the Thanh Binh 3 offered up only a slight smell but that was quickly remedied by opening the front balconey door (overlooking the main street) and the entrance door overlooking the swimming pool.

At $20-$25 a night I'm sure most foreingers like myself don't ever feel too ripped off while renting a hotel room in Vietnam. We got a real big room for this price with a comfy bed, air con, TV and an adequate bathroom. The aformentioned adjoining balconey overlooking the front street was also a nice feature.

In the morning you will be served up an average all you can eat breakfast which is nothing spectaculiar but definitly good enough. They have two computers in the lobby that we sometimes used, because the wi-fi in the room is off and on.

The location is a mere 10 minute walk from the river, shops, markets and the main tourist area. There are several eating options nearby including one that serves up an american style coffee, that many will be craving for.

Considering the low price we paid, we certainly didn't feel ripped off for our traveling dollar and didn't mind the place for a short stay.I would rate it a 3 or maybe 3.5 accordingly and I think that can all change dependent on the room you get and your expectations. We stayed in better places in Hoi An, but then again we paid more money.A long stay in here and you would wear thin, but a short stay was seemingly OK.

In a get what you pay for world, we felt OK with our stay here.

Room Tip: Get one on the main street with a balconey so you can air the place out easily

This hotel seemed like a dream after we moved from our last hotel (that had a broken AC). The AC worked & there was a pool!!!
Some cons:
The staff wasn't as friendly as some of the other places I have stayed & the bathroom had a constant sewer smell...
Pros:
Obviously the AC, also the pool which was very nice. The location was another plus, right next to many spas if you are in need of a massage.

Would I stay again? For the price likely, we loved having a pool, just hope they fix that sewer smell!!!

My first night here was pretty horrendous, i arrived at midnight and was booked into a standard room. Unfortunately the cleaner obviously felt it wasnt worth cleaning the standard rooms and spent half an hour playing squat the cockroaches as the waste bin had the food remains of the previous guests. The air con was useless and noisy, wardrobe smelt disgusting, light switches and bedside table covered in a dirty greasy slime...
In the morning i calmly complained, they agreed it was filthy and apparently sacked the cleaner! I have to be fair to them, they apologised and rectified the situation by upgrading me to the best room they have, free of charge, this room was a lot cleaner with super quiet efficient air con, a comfortable bed, and no cockroaches.
I found the staff helpful, reception guy went to great lengths to book me an evening dinner cruise, and had a member of staff whizz me to the centre of Hoian on a moped so i made it in time.
So if i rated it on my 2nd night id say it was ok if you choose a deluxe room, with friendly staff and a nice pool, but generally the place does need a bit of a tidy up. Be warned, the standard rooms are awful.

Room Tip: They dont have many deluxe rooms so book early if you want to stay here.

Staff are dull and rude and need hospitality training. Pool is clean. Bed sheets had stains. Mosquito net had a hole. Bathroom is a bit worn. Power points falling out of the wall. Wifi from my room on ground level was too weak to use. Main bedroom area was good except for the points already listed.

My room was v basic and v old. There was a leak from the ceiling, the bathroom was fairly dirty.

Hotel staff were not friendly, just tried to refer you to 'their' tailor etc.

A rip off compared to other hotels that are available in Hoi An for less or the same price! I moved to Huy Hoang after 1 night. Also the location of this hotel could be better, but it depends where you want to be. I like Huy Hoang instead because it was by the market.

Breakfast was good.
