Room - we booked riverside, large room with great view through banana and papaya plants directly to riverside. We loved the modern cocoon lounger on the terrace. The little boats put putting up and down the river added to the scene

Food - okay breakfast selection, juices fresh. We ate here one night and it was overpriced and unmemorable.

Xmas dinner and event - great fun, staff singing, dancing, fashion shows and Father Christmas! Not our scene but a good laugh and a great buffet.

Value for money - $85 for triple room (inc extra bed $20 a night)

Staff - overall friendly and helpful. Offered to bring food to room when i had a bad headache and the restaurant xmas lights were just too much. Even went out and bought us xmas paper to wrap our daughters xmas presents! Only problem arose when we were just leaving after having paid, packed, taxi waiting etc. the Manager blocked our exit, spoke into his walkie talkie and said a slipper (one, plastic) was missing ... It wasn't. We said check cases but they declined. It got a bit nasty and aggressive. eventually I mentioned trip adviser reports of umbrella scams and being asked to pay $10 etc and they backed down after I went back to the room to double check. Whole front office staff were involved, crowding round our car. It seems like a standard procedure. Unpleasant and spoiled our stay.

Transport - Booked our train tickets danang to hue. Good service. The handling fee was $3 per ticket which was almost the price of the ticket, but handy service as tickets booked over phone and delivered same day. Also booked hotel car to danang at $20 which turned out cheaper then the taxi fare the other way on our arrival and we asked to stop briefly at marble mountains to take pics.

Laundry - do it outside hotel. Same day/ next day at $1 per kg. recommend small shop just out of the entrance from hotel on the right, young family with shy little girl rather than those just opposite entrance.

Location Hoi An / An Hoi - we loved the space at this place and the short walk from here to Hoi An across the bridge or using free ferry shuttle.

The hotel location is excellent, on the other side of the bridge from the old town. The resort is very quiet and has a nice garden, making it very welcoming from the moment you arrive.

Staff were very friendly and polite and offered all the assistance we needed. We booked a riverside room and did not regret it. The room was large and comfortable. The terrace overlooking the river was a fantastic place to relax. The rooms was spotless and offered all the amenities we expected.
I would strongly recommend paying extra to get a riverside room as they offer the most privacy. One word of caution, the river is busy and the fishing boats can be noisy especially early in the morning. If you are sensitive to noise, you might want to select another room.

Breakfast buffet was amazing. The largest selection of food I have seen in Vietnam. There is something for everyone's taste.
The hotel has a market place - a complimentary selection of Vietnamese food on the hotel grounds. Another nice touch to an already great place.

I would stay in this resort again.

Room Tip: Riverside rooms are large and offer great views.

Expectations:
A place to relax reasonably close to the city.

Hotel:
Very nice resort like hotel with a lot of garden area and a nice "board walk" along the river.

Staff:
As most people in Vietnam the staff was all super friendly and open.

Rooms:
We had a bigger room with a terrace facing the river. Very nice and big room with a nice bathroom.

Pools etc.:
Our room was close to the little pool, but we used the bigger pool as well. Both pools could have had a low kid friendly end, but we survived.

Amenities:
We did not try the massage or beauty salon, but there is a small gym which worked fine for one or two runs on the tread mill.

Food & Drinks:
Very nice breakfast buffet, and very good restaurant and bar. We had all our meals on the terrace or board walk. In the afternoon there is a "tasting buffet" on the lawn which is a very nice touch.

For kids:
Nothing special for kids, but our four year old loved to run along the board walk, try the "tasting buffet" on the lawn in the afternoon and just hang out and relax by the pool.

Safety:
No issues.

Transportation:
We used the hotel to book us transfers and train tickets from Da Nang, but except from that we just walked in to town - it takes about five minutes. You can also rent bikes.

Local area:
A very nice little town which is a bit touristy without being too much. A lot of nice little restaurants. We spend five days here, but could have use a few more.

Excursions:
We booked a tour to My Son through the hotel. The trip was nice and definitely worth a visit if you are into temples and that sort of thing. There are also a couple of temple in town.

Price:
Very reasonable, but high for the area.

Other things:
N/A

Overall:
We had a great stay and all our expectations were exceeded.

As other reviewers have highlighted, this hotel is very nice. Initially I wanted to stay on the beachfront but found it better value to stay by the river and actually I think this is a much better location. The location of the hotel is excellent - it is tranquil yet very close to the old town.

The hotel itself is excellent - the rooms are spacious and clean, the pool and surrounding areas are nice. Although the hotel feels less personal and more formal than elsewhere I stayed in Vietnam.

As nice as this hotel is, there are many nice hotels in Hoi An which I feel offer much better value. In particular, you need to be careful that everything you spend gets 15% added on to when you check out - I wasn't aware of this and thus spent much more than intended. In particular, I naively booked a hotel pickup from the rail station - this was much much more than the $7-10 dollars the drivers were offering at the station and the $14 offered by many travel agents. And then ontop of paying a huge amount for this pick up (i think $25 or $30) a 15% service charge was added to this on check out! So, in short, this hotel does its best to squeeze money out of you and I did not come across a hotel that added such a service charge on to absolutely everything (including drinks etc).

So this is a very nice hotel and I enjoyed my stay but there are many nice hotels in this area so I would take a good look around first. This was the most expensive hotel I stayed in during my trip in Vietnam but wasn't the best I stayed in.

Dear Mr Ben Walker ,

We would like to say thank you for staying at Vinh Hung Riverside Resort as your accomodation in Hoi An and thank for your feedback.
We hightly appreciated the time you took to provide us with the feedback .Please accept our apologies for the inconveniences caused by the misunderstanding when you paid the bills on check out . With a big effort to provide our guests with a pleasant stay , we would like to explain all the bills in details .In the room, we put the laundry and minibar price list and always inform the guests that it does not include 10% tax and 5 % service charge. At the bar and restaurant, we also put 15% extra into the price and shown the guest before they sign the bill . For the train staion pick up , we always charge a fix price ,20usd/ way ( no extra surcharge ).
In fact , we did not squeeze any money out of guests and we never want do this bad thing for our guests. If we had explained the bill clearly on check out, you would not have been upset this much, Please give us a chance to learn and improve our service to serve you better in the future .
Thank for your understanding

Best Regards

Ha Nguyen Han

My wife and I stayed here in late Nov 2012, in a river view unit and it was really good. Our room was very clean as was the en-suite and even the veranda overlooking the river was spotless. Breakfast, in the restaurant, included in the tariff, was an expansive buffet and with eggs cooked to order. Dinners involved a huge selection of local and international choices. All of the staff were efficient, friendly and always helpful. During our stay they were learning to use the 'new coffee machine' and throw - and catch - cocktail bottles as per the film 'Cocktail'. The Food and Beverage Manager was great with the staff and the guests, always with a friendly word. An unexpected added extra was the free boat ride into the ancient town available most of the day, although the town was an easy 10 minute walk back. The pool, bar and air-conditioning were a great relief from the heat. Hoi An is a 'must visit' and this is a great place to stay, we'd do so again.

Room Tip: Pay a bit extra and go for a room near the pool and by the river.

We stayed 5 nights at the Vinh Hung Riverside Resort and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The Resort is located in a great area- 2 minute walk to the ancient town, but far enough away for it to be quiet and relaxing. The free tasting of local food in the evening was a great bonus and nice touch. The pool area was nice and relaxing and a great place to unwind and cool off. The rooms and resort itself was a little dated. In saying that, for the price we paid per night- it was very reasnoable. In retrospect, we wish we booked a riverside room.

We were on a three-week tour of Vietnam/Cambodia with Adventures Abroad and stayed here three nights. The location was perfect, an easy walk into the historic district. Our room was large and included a couch. There is deferred maintenance in the bathroom and the shower was difficult to use. Mere quibbles. We had charming and creative flower decorations left on the bed. We were on the go all day in the heat and humidity, the room and pool were a welcome retreat until the group met to go for dinner. The grounds are beautifully maintained.
