Lovely resort hotel on island adjacent to this delightful old town. The complex is quite large with a beautiful pool complete with bar and the stunning breakfast is served within a spacious airy restaurant. The rooms are spacious, clean and well equipped and have lovely balconies or outside sitting areas. Hoi An is just a short walk over the foor bridge and this hotel is ideally situtuated for all attractions. Try the sea food at one of the many water front restarants!

MY TRAVEL STYLE: I hate business hotels and strongly prefer resorts that resemble the Four Seasons, Aman, and Oberoi but try to find similar properties at lower cost. I seek out the “wow” experiences and I encourage you to view hotels I have stayed at and their respective reviews.

LOCATION: Great! Only a 7 minute walk to the main area with all the restaurants and main tourist sites. You don’t want to stay in town since there are lots of motorbikes and horns honking. Best to stay on the river with a few minutes walk. The very safe walk through a local village on the way to town is a really a great way to see how locals live. Laundry, bikes, and mopeds can be rented steps outside and directly in front the hotel. It was nice coming back to a peaceful spot after the craziness of the main town.

BEST WAY TO GET THERE: Buses will not drop off/pick up at this hotel. Must travel by taxi or moto to get to this hotel. You can fly to Danang? and take a 35 minute taxi to the hotel for about $12 (must negotiate).

TYPE OF ROOM: We had a deluxe riverfront view.

BED/SHEETS/PILLOW: Your typical hard Vietnamese bed. Springs could be felt and the sheets were used too many times and warn out. One set of sheets was so thin that you could see the design of the mattress right through (yes there was no mattress pad, Yuck!). Pillows were too thick. Linens were of poor quality and worse than a typical Vietnamese hotel. We asked for an extra blanket and placed it under the fitted sheet to make the bed more comfortable.

LIGHTING: Very good in the bedroom, way too dark in the bathroom.

BATHROOM/SHOWER: Bathroom was nothing special and shower was in the bathtub and showerhead must be held by hand while showering. Has shower curtain in the bathroom. I hate these, but at least it doesn’t touch you while showering. Pressure was mediocre and water temperature would get hot but wouldn’t last more than 15 minutes (therefore not possible to take a bath in hot water).

TOILETRIES: Cheap so bring your own. Soap was the smallest size I have seen in a hotel (maybe I am just spoiled??).

CLEANLINESS: The room and bathroom was spotless (we did have a small bloodstain on our comforter).

A/C: Quietly and quickly got our room cool.

CLOSET SPACE: Not enough for even one person to hang all items. Closet was cheaper than Ikea quality.

STYLE OF ROOM: Nice for the price. Hardwood floors were very nice but the room was a bit tired and nothing special (but I guess it looks excellent given the price?). We had a nice (shared with one room) balcony in which we could watch the boats go by.

QUIET/MORNING LIGHT: Deluxe rooms only have one neighbor (no one above or below and only one attached wall). We had a very noisy neighbor and were awoken up at 7AM hearing every word and the TV. Paper thin walls. First night we didn’t hear a sound. Boats can be loud from the riverside rooms but probably still better than hearing the honking horns if we stayed in town. The room could be made pitch black and would block out all morning sunlight.

FOOD: Breakfast was not impressive. Fruit was not nearly as fresh as all other hotels in Vietnam we stayed at (but most were more expensive). Choice of a few juices, eggs could be made to order, choice of 3 cereals. Not great, but at least it was included at no costs. Dinner was very reasonable $3-5/entrée and is summed up as typical hotel restaurant food. Not great, but not bad either.

TV/INTERNET: TV was of decent size and had the least amount of English channels yet. Approx 5-7 English channels with no movie channels. No internet in room, but there is complimentary wireless in the lobby area and 7 computers that can be used at no cost (only 2 were working). Internet was better than average speed.

SERVICE: Staff here is very pleasant and service was efficient. There are no do not disturb signs in the room which means you have to always plan on staff entering the room.

COMMON AREA: This is where the hotel excels. The grounds are very well kept and impressive. Trees and flowers are everywhere and the view of the lake is nice. You would never think the hotel was so inexpensive based on the common area.

ROOM & CITY TIPS: Book away from the river if you want the quietest rooms although the view of the river was a nice bonus. Brothers café has an amazing riverside view with overpriced mediocre food. Cargo restaurant was also terrible and overpriced. Blue Dragon? (at the end of the same road as Cargo was amazing). My expectations for hotels may be too high for this place but I guess at $65 I should still recommend it since it is a great value. I checked out the Life Resort (my first choice which was booked) and looked in their rooms. Smaller but appeared much nicer. Also the pool there was impressive. The location of that resort is equally as good as this one and the common area is slightly less impressive though. I would check out that hotel first before booking this one.

This is a really nice hotel. Perfect location - just 5minutes walk from the center (don't panick nor get scared when you walk from the hotel - alot of little streets and little homes, little everything - all in all Hoi An people are very kind and curious). In the center of town you can do your visiting, shopping, eating. It's quite safe there, and cute. Arrived with the rain, left with the rain, so the streets were a bit flooded, but, that's ok...it couls ave been worse...Back to the Hotel now (! ), the room is very spacious and bungalow typed. Big pool, but didn't get to use it (with a group, not much time, and anyway it rained...). Hotel is located on the big Thu Bon river where the Hotel has a floating restaurant. They also have a restaurant oin the Hotel grounds -the night we arrived we had dinner in the Hotel restaurant - D LI CIOUS ! Big choice of Breakfast. But, I suggest that you go into town for lunch and dinner- alot of choices, and cheaper.
when you return to your room in the afternoon, you can find a heart made out of petals and leaves, the mosquito screen is wrapped around the bed - very romantic.
Bathroom is big - considering Vietnam, room is humongous. Walk into town, visit the sites, Japanese bridge, Phuong Hung house, market place inside town and the fish market on the edge of the river (have your guts attached coz I heard you see things there that might disturb you ! ). You can have clothes made out in just a few hours, and they deliver to your hotel at no extra charge. Try to set a bargain price right before you pay.
Oh yes, almost forgot - the reception people arent that helpful, nor pleasant - they don't go out of their way for anything.
BON VOYAGE

Vinh Hung Resort looks far from Hoi An central on some of the maps, but is a 5 minute stroll away, and on the other side of the river from the hard-core tourist area. This means it's easy to get to the food and shopping if you want, but it's quiet and you don't have to worry about a lot of noise in the evenings.

Beautiful int'l-standards appearance hotel. We stayed 1 month after the resort was closed due to massive floods, and had some of the aftermath. For example, the in-room phones didn't work, and the free internet (available at the business center) was incredibly slow.

The hotel has a beautiful pool, in the center of the rooms. Rooms are mostly 8 to a building, and each building is 2-floor bungalow type.

We stayed in a superior level room, which was reasonably large and beautifully decorated, including an overhead canopy which my friend thought was a decorative (actually was mosquito netting). The hotel staff was quite friendly, and tried to be very accommodating. The decor was rather colonial in feel, but nice and everything in excellent shape.

I think the hotel is one of the best in Hoi An, and I would say that in cleanliness, appearance, and general facilities offered it is up to a 4-star international standard. Didn't check out the spa, but the in-house exercise room is an open pavilion with a few pathetic looking weights and elderly bench press.

As with all of our Vietnam hotels, there were issues with the wake-up calls, but the breakfast buffet was good and the hotel amazingly clean shortly after massive flooding.

This hotel ticks a lot of boxes: it's quiet, got a pool, lots of space, and a mozzie net, but despite the nice touch of a daily floral heart on the bedspread, it didn't disguise that the sheets and towels were old, grey and stained. Also, the reception staff were extremely unfriendly. We decided that it was either (1) because they thought we contravened "Hotel Rule No. 12", that is, that a man and woman can only share a room if they are married (in fact we are truly wedded but we have different surnames); or maybe (2) because our rucksacks "lowered the tone". Thankfully we didn't have to have much to do with them because the rooms are located around a landscaped campus which doesn't necessitate passing through the foyer all the time. PS yes the laundry is a dollar a kilo (across the road) - but she does overcharge! - the old trick -weighing the clothes and the basket she's put them in! We didn't care, though. They came back good and clean.

As we were riding the taxi from the airport, I started to panic when the driver told us we were very close to the hotel, all I could see was narrow alleys full of people on motorbikes, I thought to myself "this doesn't look like a neighbourhood I want to be in at night". Well, how wrong I was! Turning a corner we arrived at this wonderful resort, by the river, 5 minute walk from Hoi An town. And walking through the narrow alleys at any time of day and night turned out to be not only safe but a lot of fun aswell, the local people, very friendly and polite. We ended up sending all our clothes for washing with one lady living across the street from the hotel entrance, never missing one piece.
Hoi An is a delightful town, with many shops, restaurants and a local market by the river that is worth a visit.
If you are there for less than four or five days, my personal suggestion is not to get into the tailor-having clothes made-business, you will waste many hours in extreme heat, going back to the shop to check everything is OK. Instead, buy good quality silk from a reputable shop at very convenient prices and bring it back home for things such as curtains, bed covers, pillows, etc. That is what my wife did, and boy they look nice!
We stayed in one of the japanese suites, a bit more expensive but well worth it, overlooking the river. One word of caution: even though the resort is quiet, the river traffic is not. The ferry starts operating at 6 AM and I found sleeping very difficult after that hour even with earplugs. On the other hand, getting up early turned out to be very convenient since everything starts happening early in Hoi An, people trying to avoid the heat.
The 10 minute taxi ride to the beach was US$ 3 each way, good restaurants, 2 lounge chairs under a palapa for 4 US$, very clean wide white sandy beach for safe swimming.
The local food tasting outside the main restaurant happened every afternoon at around 5 pm, great.
If you stay longer that 3/4 days, maybe 3/4 days at this resort and the rest at the beach would seem as a good combination.
