I'm going to start from the beginning and give the good, the bad and the ugly (if there are any).
We arrived at Hoi An, to a waiting driver (booked via email to the hotel) for a cost of $20US. The driver was very informative, chatty and teaching us little bits of Vietnamese. He wanted to take us to Marble Mountain on the way past, but we said no as we just wanted to check in. Later found out when looking at the information book in the hotel room, that this would've cost extra $$$, which I'm sure would've been added on to the bill at the end.
We arrived to check in and the lady explained we were getting twin beds, husband and I looked at each other. A bit of talking and requesting and we were given a double room - we had booked a superior deluxe garden view room. On arrival at our room, it was lovely to discover it was a king size bed!!!! The rooms are large, with a good size bathroom, shower over bath, so bath if you so required.
The staff were great, especially the housekeeping, who seemed to go out of their way to make up pretty floral hearts on our made up beds.
The pool was lovely, good temperature, very clean and lots of reclining sunchairs around. As mentioned by someone else, the tiles were slippery - just walk carefully.
Location, location, location - great - a short walk into town - no need for taxis.
Breakfast was great - fruit, pastries, fresh cooked omelettes, eggs, bacon, sausages, yoghurt, cereal and your noodles and rice. Lots of juices and coffee, tea. Breakfast is open from 6am - 10am.
Across the room is some little street side stalls that rent out bicycles $1US a day and laundry $1US kg - great value, about a 1/3 of the price of the hotel. We used laundry service twice, dropped off in the morning and picked it up by 5pm, clean and ironed. Used rental bicycles too- picked up at 8am, dropped off at 6pm - such a bargain.
The night before we left, husband and I indulged in a facial for me and manicure/pedicure for me at the hotel's spa/beautician - excellent value and great service. The price was added to the room charge.
all in all, a great place to stay. Just my husband and myself stayed, but we'd definitely bring kids back, knowing there are things for them to do there and the hotel is so close to town.
The hotel organised a few trips, but I thought they were a bit overpriced. You live and learn, so in hindsight I'd book my own trips.
As the hotel is right on the river, some people have commented about the noise from the boats going past, from early in the morning to late at night (tutt, tutt sound), but I personally didn't mind, it added to the ambience of Vietnam (Hoi An)
