“So nearly a 5 rating, but spoilt by small irritations.....”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

The positive:

- this is in a really great location: on the river, right smack in the middle between the beach and the town. This means it's easy to get to both, either by bike, taxi or shuttle bus (although I guess it means you can't just walk out of the door into the thick of things, if that's your thing). We loved the place - and it was perfect for travelling with 2 teenagers

- the rooms (and the overall resort) are very good value for the price and a really nice place to hang out after a day sightseeing

- all the staff are friendly, cheerful and smiley

The not so good: please note that these are really minor things, but they do add up after a while.

- there aren't enough bikes, so in our four days there, we could only use the hotel bikes once. Since you actually need a bike (or a taxi or bus) to get you anywhere, this is annoying. However, you can rent them from over the road for $1, so not a disaster

- a few things don't work (eg the fax machine) and the staff don't come up with an answer - just a very unhelpful "sorry, cannot"

- small things go wrong (eg loos, drinks on the wrong bill) which get fixed quickly, but knocks off that 5 rating

- the bar is annoyingly expensive - we didn't eat there as the prices were mad - but drinks are 2-3 times the going rate

- breakfast is a good spread, but is the same every day, which gets boring

Lovely position opposite the river. Large comfortable room. Traditional Vietnamese architecture and decor. Beautiful pool and surroundings. Breakfast was acceptable. Service was courteous and pleasant. The courtesy bus to Hoi An and the beach was helpful. The 'Son' restaurant opposite is really excellent and the charming 'Riverside' is just down the road.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to pretty good!

Booked for 4 nights but stayed six. Hoi An is a wonderfully relaxing, friendly & fun place to visit & a stay @ d Trails resort & Spa will complement your experience perfectly. We had a great time in the resort. We had a junior suite which was fabulous. The pool is super & towels are provided. There is a pool bar or u can get served food & drink at your sun bed. Location is ideal. 1km from beach & 3km from town, don't worry this is what u want. If u stay at beach it's too quiet but if u stay in town it's too hot & pools won't b as good. Hoi An Trails is bang on. There is also complementary bus or free bicycles to borrow. A day @ the beach is also a must & the hotel has a private section where u can use sun beds for free & dine in the restaurant there while billing it to your room, v handy. Breakfast is lovely & has a wide range to choose from. Must give special mention to Minh. Minh works in reception & was very helpful throughout our stay. We had an issue with our booking in Nha Trang, our next destination, but Minh sorted it out quickly & efficiently. He is a sound guy & typical of the nice people you'll meet in Hoi An. If you're going to Hoi An, enjoy & as for a hotel... Stop searching!!

We stayed in Hoi An Trails at the end of our four week holiday in july. As soon as we arrived, we got upgraded to a huge suite: two showers, a big tub, a relaxing sitting area with a sofa+a desk for writing and a big terrace. The resort has well-maintained grounds, a lovely pool area with separate pool area for kids, a spa, a restaurant and a free shuttle service to the beach & Hoi an every couple of hours. They also have free bikes, that look a little shoddy, but work perfectly well: there is some lovely beaches just 10-20 minutes bike ride away. The breakfast was really good with a luxurious selection of fresh fruit, pastries, omelettes made to order, veggies and vietnamese breakfast food. They mention they have a gym, but the equipment really isn't up to par: but who needs gym, when there is interesting bike rides to take to the surrounding countryside and all thes wimming in the world in South China sea and the lovely pool?
Our only complaint was, that the drinks at the hotel were at least double, if not triple, the prices compared to the restaurants in the area. They don't have a private airport transfer and a taxi will cost you an arm and a leg ( over 500000 dong), so bear in mind, that a private airport transfer can be easily arranged through any travel agent or eaven the neigbouring Dingo deli for about half the price.
The staff at the hotel had adequate english and were eager to please &very professional. We had a great eight night stay and would definitely return to Hoi An Trails.

We stayed for 6 nights in early July. The resort was very nice - wonderful breakfast. The shuttle bus we didnt use as it was never a convenient time for us - but cabs are cheap so it wasnt a major issue at all.

Main issue was the pool bar - i think its open from 3-7pm - but it was never staffed. The resort could be making more money and keeping people happy if they had someone there working and perhaps a few tunes playing. Dont bother putting in a pool bar if its not going to be staffed.

Rooms were very nice and overall our stay was very enjoyable.

Hopefully manager will see the info about the pool bar and sort it out - he did ask me about putting on a review and I told him I would - and also told him the issue I had with the pool bar...

Room Tip: we stayed in the family villas - a little noisy as they face the street - but we still slept really...

We stayed 5 nights with 2 adults and 2 kids and the room was great, pool was fabulous! Great value for an upmarket style resort that is not 5 star prices. We took the cab into town as the shuttle bus did not run when we needed it. Cab is so cheap that we didn't care. Do laundry or $1 a kg across the road. Loved the hotel and Hoi AN and if travelling with kids a great place as the pool keeps then entertained.

If you go to Hoi An and you stay anywhere else for any other price... I pity you.

Hoi An Trails resort was the BEST hotel I stayed in my entire stay in Vietnam. Hoi An Trails Resort is the best. Oh yeah, and it's the best. :) Okay, for more substance and less gushing (let's be real, more gushing) keep reading:

The location is great. Basically midway between the beach and Old Town. The trails has a shuttle that leaves every couple of hours to each of these locations. If you miss a shuttle time, a cab ride is easy to acquire and decently cheap (so long as you don't get ripped off--I still haven't quite figured out how to not get ripped off by the cabbies. I'm Vietnamese-born too!)

The staff is pretty helpful and their English was pretty good too.

The rooms. Oh the rooms... the rooms were amazing. The balcony and view was amazing... the tubs, the shower... so amazing. While I should've been out exploring more of Old Town in Hoi An... my travel buddy and I spent one night vegging out in front of the tv. IT WAS HEAVEN!

Free breakfast! Not so bad!

Didn't really have any hot water, but I was there in the middle of summer, so I really didn't need it. Right on the other side of the fence to my building was a house with chickens... and a rooster. So... I got used to a 4 am wake up call. And the 4:30 wake up call... and the.... you get the idea. I could've lived without it, but there isn't a whole lot the hotel can do about that.

Free wifi in the rooms. A little weak (not sure where the router was, but in my room, I had only a bar or two), but I had enough of a signal to upload my many pictures of the resort and beach in order to make my friends and family back home jealous. Believe me--when they see your pics from the Hoi An Trails, THEY WILL BE JEALOUS!

For $50/night (though I realize "steep" in Vietnam terms), it's a greeeeeeeeeat deal!

Oh, and though I was traveling as one half of a two girl duo, it was obvious that this is a GREAT place for families and couples.

Room Tip: If you're a couple looking to have some alone time, you might want to request a room away from t...
