“Great stay and relaxing environment...”
Reviewed January 16, 2014

We stayed for 9 nights at the Palm Garden Resort - mid Jan 2014. We arrived very early, about 8am, and expected to offload our luggage and return to check in at 2pm. Instead reception advised we could have breakfast there and they would have us checked-in with the hour. Fantastic, after sleepless night on the o/night train.

We had a great room and all staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The pool was large, relaxing and a great temperature. It was also so nice to have the beach right there in front of you, not having to cross roads or be hassled to buy anything. It has the best beach frontage of the resorts in our opinion.

The rooms are spacious (double deluxe), good beds, and the little daily news/ info sheet with chocolates is a nice touch. The rooms have great mood lighting but are a bit dark, especially at night when trying to read so maybe a dimmer light switch would be a good compromise. Unfortunately we had some noisy neighbours, and the sound of banging doors travelled right through our room. The free bottles of water were appreciated and everything was replenished each day with no inconvenience. A suggestion would be to have a couple of wine glasses in the room.

One of the nights we had happy hour drinks at the Contino Bar and ended up staying much longer than we planned. The band that was playing was really good especially the guitar player, his voice was exceptional. They played a wide variety of songs but classic hits that everyone knew so they could sing along and/or dance to. Each day we'd seen "Phillipino Band" listed on the daily news sheet - not expecting much more than some traditional music and then it dawned on us that this was the band we were listening to. Our suggestion would be to advertise it as either the house band playing classic hits or give them a funky name, as more people will go out of their way to see what they're about.

Room Tip: double deluxe room for couples - spacious, beach or garden view

We stayed at the Palm Garden Beach Resort and we have enjoyed every minute of our stay. The room we stayed in was fantastic and the people working throughout the Resort are extremely friendly and the resort itself maintained to the highest levels.

The only thing we found a little bit annoying was the cost of everything in the resort compared to the rest of Hoi An. We found a fantastic little restaurant across the road Called the Golden Fish Restaurant. All the staff are so friendly, the food was amazing and there hospitality was second none. We also booked all our tours through them, each was a great experience.

Hoi An town is pretty full On. We found that if you go shopping near the Japanese Bridge the locals will leave you alone much more than in the middle of town.

To start on a positive note: the whole complex was surrounded by beautiful grounds complete with a large pool; good staff and it is on the beach.
The room looked beautiful; but it was totally dysfunctional.
There was a large desk with no available power points. In fact there was only 1 available power point in the whole room, which is tucked behind the bedside light table.
You and the chair do not fit under the desk! It only had 50mm between the the top of the chair and the bottom of the desk.
There was a huge bathroom, but a hard to reach the towel rake, located at the end of the bath across decorative, but non functional loose stones, behind the door. It does have a good shower.
If there was two people occupying the room then there too little space for comfortably unpacking your belongings.
The wardrobe was not useful for anyone under 5ft 10in (180cm) as you could not hang up clothes as the clothes rail was too high. There is a safe in this area.
The worst problem, for me, was the base of the bed. This was 6" (150mm) larger than the mattress, which meant you continually knocked your shin on the extended base.
I discussed the rooms with other people who complained that their bathroom floor continually "flooded" after a shower.
The internet access was very slow.
The complex is too far from Hoi An. You can't walk there, but they do provide shuttle buses every 2 hours. Otherwise it is the usual taxi "mafia" problem.
Renovations were occurring (very loud, continuous hammering) during the whole of the first morning, this occurred during the height of the high season which does seem very strange.
Breakfast was OK without being great. All the breads were sweet, even the darker, whole meal type. There was a good egg station.
The complex has a nice pool table, billiards table, table tennis table, and table football, which was promptly shut at 8 PM!
It is a shame that somewhere that looks so good, just does not work in practice.

I stayed this resort for 5 nights i enjoyed the stay very much, i like how people organize the New Year gala dinner. The resort has a nice landscape with many flowers. Beach is really nice to walk along and i found that many resorts near by do not have nice beach as this one. We like to swim but it seems a bit cold in winter time so we had the sunbath only. Breakfast is very good with plenty of choice, we had a dinner in the hotel but it is expensive so we decided to go cross the resort for other nights we tried some local restaurant like Golden Fish restaurant and Dau one these two very good and cheap. I plan to come back this resort in summer time next year.

Room Tip: choose a room far away the restaurant

This place is a real treat. It is beautifully laid out over the gardens and beach. We stayed here 4 nights in December, and loved it. It is a little outside of Hoi An but such a lovely location right on the beach. Factilities are fantastic with a great pool, kids club and decent gym.
We had back massages and facials which were probably a lot more expensive than if we had gone outside, but we knew we would have excellent therapists providing these.

There is a good tailor across the road from the hotel which allows for you to go back for numerous fittings if needed - which is generally the case with any clothes you might be getting made.

Breakfast buffet was superb. Staff all around the hotel were really amazing, with everyone always greeting us as they went about their daily work.

The landscape of the hotel is nice, the rooms look nice but have horrible lighting, it is nearly impossible to read in the room. Also the walls are not sound proof, you can hear everything through the walls from the room next door and we experienced that this was especially bad when the people next door check out because you would hear them getting ready and leaving then a couple of minutes later the cleaners would come in and make heaps of noise cleaning the room at 5:30-6:00am.

Some staff are friendly and helpful but others appear grumpy and roll their eyes when you ask for something. Many staff don't speak very good English.

The showers are either burning hot or freezing cold, there is no in between - not exactly what I would expect to find in a 5 star hotel. The bath takes over an hour to fill and doesn't stay full for very long.

The hotel has shuttles into Hoi An town a few times a day and will pay for taxis when the shuttles are full, otherwise it is only a US $5 taxi ride in.

There is plenty of variety in breakfast but it is packed up strictly by 10am each day.

The wifi didn't work in our room so we reported this and they installed a personal network in our room which was good. Many of our friends also said the wifi didn't work in their rooms.

Overall the hotel was clean and had the facilities but I probably wouldn't stay here again!

Dear Travellover031092,

Greetings from Palm garden Resort & Spa.

I hope you are well and had a safe flight back home.

I am deeply sadden to know of your experience during your stay with us. However, I would like to thank you as I have taken all your concerns on board and have immediately applied immediate action on this. The lighting inside the room, please be advised that I have conducted a meeting with the department concerned. We will be adding additional lighting as well as reading lamps to the room as soon as possible. Concerning the walls of the room, we are currently looking for a better solution on how to make our walls sound proof as we have invited an outside company to help out and provide effective solutions. Regarding the water system, our team have already carefully adjusted the heating system applying on all rooms of the resort. I have also sent out a strict memorandum regarding staff behavior as strict disciplinary action or dismissal applies to violators. Rest assured that these issues are never to be repeated.

Thank you and hope you would be able to stay with us once again on your future trip in Hoian and provide you the improvements made to serve you better and meet your expectations.

Kind regards,

We stayed at the Palm Garden resort for a week in December as part of our honeymoon trip to SE Asia.

The hotel was great and there were some thoughtful touches that made it even better, such as the daily newsletter and turn-down service (mmm, chocolates!). Having never stayed in a resort based hotel before neither of us were sure what to expect, so we were really pleased that it wasn't a huge resort but had enough facilities to entertain you - from the restaurant, to the spa, the coffee lounge, and tours. We ate there several times and all the food was tasty and well prepared, and we both had treatments in the spa which we enjoyed. There is also a games room with pool table where we ended up having a few games with one of the staff one evening when the weather was not so good.

The hotel itself is really clean and feels quite new. The staff are incredibly attentive, and keep the grounds of the resort in immaculate condition through constant maintenance. The resort is centred around a large and beautiful pool which was great for a dip when sunbathing. The beach was nice but the weather in December wasn't really beach weather and the sea was quite rough, but we did have some nice walks along the beach.

As it was approaching Christmas when we were there the hotel was putting up a seemingly endless stream of Christmas decorations - this started with the Christmas tree of course, but by the end of our stay there was a flying santa and reindeer, crib, gingerbread house and boat of gifts! It was incredible to watch the transformation!

Unfortunately at the end of our trip I got sick, and an hour before we left I asked to see the resort doctor as I was really unwell. The doctor arrived within minutes and had a good look at me before going to the pharmacy to collect the drugs I needed. He was great and had there not been a resort doctor at hand we would have had to pay a small fortune to see a doctor when we reached our next destination of Hanoi.

Also, the free shuttle to and from the centre of Hoi An is such a bonus and we used it every day. The timings of the shuttle were perfect to coincide with eating, drinking, shopping and exploring Hoi An.
