“Amazing hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2013

By far the best hotel we staying at in the 2.5 weeks we travelled through Vietnam. Beautiful, clean rooms with an amazing ambience. The bed was large and comfortable - we slept like babies! The breakfast was also superb and all round, it is a classy establishment. Would highly recommend this hotel. Our only disappointment was that we were only there for 1 night!

We recently completed a tour through Cambodia and Vietnam, staying in a lot of nice places. Of all of them, Ancient House Resort was my favorite. Why? Well, the rooms were spacious, the bed probably the largest I've ever slept in, the bathroom had boih walk-in shower and tub, there were flower petals on the bed and credenza to greet us, as well as a bowl of fruit. But for me, the topper was the Acer laptop provided for the guests' use in each bedroom, hardwired to the internet. It allowed me to upload 1700 pictures that had accumulated to that point in my camera to the web - where I knew they would be safe.
It was rainy in Hoi An while we were there, so we didn't even see the town or the property in the best circumstances, but I would recommend the Ancient House Resort unreservedly.

Room Tip: Room was booked by Ann Tours in HCM City - they picked great rooms.

We stayed here for 4 nights. It is a comfortable, welcoming hotel situated in beautiful gardens in a quiet location halfway between the old town and beach (about 2km from each). The pool is quite large in a garden setting.
The room on the first floor was spacious and well equipped with a comfortable bed and large bathroom. A room on a higher floor could be awkward for anyone with mobility problems. It had a traditional feel about it which matched the character of this old property. The only minor issue was the illogical light switches which, initially, confused us.
Breakfast was varied and tasty, served in a large restaurant overlooking the gardens and pool. Although it was easy to walk into the old town, it was unpleasant in the heat so the free hotel shuttle bus was invaluable.
The staff were all friendly and helpful. This hotel was a really peaceful and relaxing place to stay after several weeks touring Vietnam. We would certainly return.

This was booked by our travel agent. We were shown to allocated room which was at the lower ground level , next to the road with no balcony. We asked for a change and were instantly given one. The hotel and staff were very friendly but the hotel itself felt "tired" but I guess suited the Hoi An appeal. It was not an unpleasant hotel at all just a bit tired! The swimming pool was also tired looking ... It felt like the whole place needed a bit of TLC. It was also a fair walk into Hoi An and we probably would have chosen a different hotel had we know. I had a pedicure which I probably wouldn't do again. The poor girl spoke no English and looked like my feet were the 1000000 th pair of feet shed seen that day.

Room Tip: We were in room 309 - elevated... Only way to go!

We stayed for 3 nights and really enjoyed the resort. Large, clean room with old style furniture, bathroom as big as rooms in most hotels, Wow!
Nice relaxing pool area, everything you need is in the resort. Close to Old Town.
On our departure, they presented me with a lovely bunch of roses. Ok it was my Birthday, but what a nice touch.
The waitstaff and Chefs very friendly and helpful.
Beautiful Building, if you have a chance, check out the original building at the back of the resort

Suggest 3rd floor rooms. Though there are no elevators . Rooms are spacious with good size bathrooms. Staff is helpful and breakfast buffet is set around beautiful flowers and view of the town's pagoda can be seen from breakfast area near balcony. Pool area is comfortable and the ancient house that still makes rice paper is very interesting and on the grounds of the hotel. when you step out the back area of the hotel you can see water buffalos grazing. Street vendors selling food and folks going to work on their motor bikes. Hotel provides a shuttle bus to the beach and town. Would be nice if the bus ran more runs but it is free so cannot complain.

Room Tip: 3rd floor was my favorite

Checked in for a 2 night stay, first impressions were ok. Grounds well kept, staff polite and friendly. Then things went down hill.

Paid for Garden View room, had a view of a wall. Arrived on a hot day, bar fridge not plugged in so no cool drinks. Safe didn't work (although this was fixed quickly), shower was awful - sprayed everywhere except down - mostly at face height from one end of the bath to the other. We were prepared to overlook these things but by the 2nd night it got worse.

We had noticed the hotel is swarming with geckos - they're everywhere. Not so much of an issue outside but our room had them up on the ceiling and the walls then we noticed that they were dropping their crap over EVERYTHING. Soon we realised the mosquito net in our room was not for stopping mozzies but for catching gecko [---].

It gets worse - 2nd night we were visited by a bat that was living in the roof. Found out later from the manager that geckos and bats in the roofs of rooms is a common problem.

It gets worse - this bat dropped a tiny baby bat onto our bed side dresser while it was flapping around the room. Had enough by then and organised a meeting with the manager.

Manager was apologetic and offered a refund of one night plus would comp our laundry bill and minibar plus all other expenses as well as lunch in the restaurant the next day before checkout. Fine we excepted BUT.....

On checkout we were presented with a bill for laundry and drinks and told by the staff our lunch offer was no longer happening as the manager had offered too much.

Needless to say I was furious as the manager had made this offer to both myself and my partner. So after some heated words and a few phone calls they eventually told us we would have no more to pay.

Goodbye Hoi An - what a shame.
