Owner description: A local favorite, construction on this covered bridge began in the Year of the Monkey (1593) and was finished in the Year of the Dog (1595), hence the monkey and dog sculptures at either end.

“Nice attraction”
Reviewed February 7, 2013

It's pretty small & they will take one of your 5 ticket stubs to cross it. It's nicebut you can see it all from the outside & cross tothe Japanese part of town on the bridge beside it. Or else just wait till the ticket guys leave at sunset & cross for free then.

“Rip off”
Reviewed February 5, 2013

The bridge looks very quaint and we got some lovely photos. We didn'y walk accross it, as we thought that $6.00Aus was far too much to be paying. You could see the other side when you stood at the entrance.

“Interesting but needs repair”
Reviewed February 5, 2013

It's a lovely piece of design so make sure your guide describes all of the detail. It's a little scary walking through it though since some of the flooring is missing - don't get too close to the edge to look out.

“Just wonderful, from the outside. Don't pay admission, however.”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

The bridge and its architecture is just wonderful. This was really worth the visit, (especially since it is so close to the rest of the action in the old city). We were under the impression that it would be worth paying (using our visiting tickets) to have a look inside, but this was a mistake, there's nothing more than a small shrine in a room inside the bridge, and a small trinket store selling garbage.] You can see much of the bridge from the outside and walking through it without having to go inside the shrine room.

“Gorgeous”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

Loved the history of the bridge and the visuals inside.
The ticket collector is a bit rude but I suppose she sees 1000s of western tourists!
