Description: Vietnamese cuisine encompasses the foods and beverages of Vietnam, and features a combination of five fundamental taste elements (Vietnamese: ngu vi) in the overall meal. Each Vietnamese dish has a distinctive flavor which reflects one or more of these elements. Vietnamese recipes use lemongrass, ginger, mint, Vietnamese mint, long coriander, Saigon cinnamon, bird's eye chili, lime, and basil leaves. Traditional Vietnamese cooking is greatly admired for its fresh ingredients, minimal use of oil, and reliance on herbs and vegetables. With the balance between fresh herbs and meats and a selective use of spices to reach a fine taste, Vietnamese food is considered one of the healthiest cuisines worldwide. Nhu Bau is a family owned and operated restaurant and they work hard together to bring you all the flavours an excellent Vietnamese restaurant can offer. Come along today and enjoy Nhu Bau.

“great food, great restaurant!”
Reviewed April 2, 2014

We stayed at the Sunrise hotel and tried a few of the restaurants directly across the road. I can say we loved Nhu Bau restaurant and probably ate there 12 times in our 8 days staying at the Sunrise. The food is great, especially the grilled clams, beef noodles, and the beef dish with pineapple. The rice and Cau Lao are also very good, we often had these as light lunches. There is a lot of fresh seafood available too, and western food eg pizzas, burgers, pastas etc . Anh and her family are lovely, the service is great and the whole family get involved. We stayed at the restaurant for some drinks after dinner a few times too and it was a lot of fun, we played cards with the family. They also have a very cute puppy!

“Fabulous food, great value, lovely friendly staff - just what you want on holiday”
Reviewed March 15, 2014 via mobile

Located just behind the Sunrise Hotel we ate here many times during our stay. Initially the restaurant was quiet but by the weekend it had filled up more with locals and tourists mingling. Do not be put off if it is empty even....to walk by would be a mistake as the food is fresh, very tasty and varied. Anh and her family are delightful; friendly and attentive. Everybody gets involved. Her mother and sister share the cooking and brother helps serve. Tiger and Saigon beer washed it all down and provided a welcome watering stop after having been out for a cycle ride. Nothing is too much trouble and everything we ate was absolutely fabulous. We cannot wait until we come back to Hoi An, the Sunrise and Nhu Bau!!

“World Class Scallops”
Reviewed February 18, 2014

A great little local restaurant if you like fish and veggie, cold beer and a warm welcome. We had a great time and were made very welcome each time we visited. Hard working people: Anh and Phi run the place whilst Mother sells food at the beach, sister does the cooking and Dad goes out fishing for days at a time to earns few dongs. Sadly, on his last fishing trip whilst we were there he slipped, broke his arm and had to return early. Hope you are ok now, Rau. Highly recommend it.

“Food and service”
Reviewed September 18, 2013

We had a great dinner at Nhu Bau while in Hoi An. The food was very tasty, although if you really don't like spicy, it could be hard to take, but we loved it! The owner, a young lady, tries very hard with her English and we were able to converse fine with her. She said her brother and sister cooked and we thought that was great for a family restaurant.
Try it out!

“Excellent Vietnamese food”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

We stayed in the Sunrise Hoi An between 21/7 and 3/8/2013. Across the road from the Sunrise are several restaurants, I tried most of them and all offer good value. My favourite was Nhu Bau. This restaurant is run by two sisters. The Vietnemese food on offer is excellent and the welcome is warm and friendly. We returned to eat there on several occassions. My favourite dish was chicken with chilli and lemon grass. I enjoyed this so much that I asked if I could be shown how to cook it. I returned for my lesson one lunchtime and at the end of the lesson was charged only for the food that I had prepared and eaten and not for the tuition.
Highly recommended.
