Owner description: The Hoi An Silk Village, officially opened in August 2012, is based on the ancient silk weaving traditions of Quang Nam province that used Hoi An as a commercial seaport for over 300 years. Located down the street from Hoi An's town center, the Silk Village offers an experience like no other. During the tour you'll learn about the entire production of silk from silkworm to dress. We also have a spacious restaurant serving up local delights and a high-end silk showroom where you can have custom garments designed.

“Not a sewing machine in sight!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2013 via mobile

I'm really puzzled by the review that mentioned "rows of women at sewing machines" as there is not a single one in sight. I thought the tour was great--a bit of botany, some entomology (life cycle of the silk worm), amazing demonstrations of the process of making silk, nice shopping, and a delicious lunch at the end. Who knew that worms could be so exciting to look at? I was especially intrigued by the Vietnamese looms. Definitely a must-see if you are in any way into textiles.

“Silk village”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2013

They had beautiful things to buy but expensive. Was interesting to see how silk was made by the silk worm. We bought our daughter a traditional dress with pants cost $20.00 Australian. To get made to order would have cost $90.00. This was a visit as part of a bike tour.

“Wonderful experience”

We enjoyed the Hoian Silk Village. It was an interesting, hands on education about the making of silk in a beautiful environment. The guides were wonderful.

“Another "factory" surrounded by retail pushers”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2013

Do you really want to see rows of people at sewing machines? The very brief tour of silk weavers (and worms) is the most interesting part. Maybe I am jaded, but this was week three of our trip, and I'd had it with these "factory" visits and persistent sales people.

“Relaxed place with attention to detail”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2013

The name Village is bit misleading to a westerner. It is a company showroom mixed with a museum feeling. Apart from this, it is a great place to spend some time. Its close to Hoi An center, easy to get to on a bike as well.
The whole place is well looked after and the guide is kind and knowlegable. You are not pushed to buy in the shop which I think is a good approach. We enjoyed our visit.
