Description: The Reaching Out Teahouse, a second location for our social enterprise, was created because we wanted to share authentic Hoi An (which means peaceful meeting) through the tradition of drinking tea and coffee with friends and visitors. Tranquility is assured in our ancient house furnished with antiques. Our servers are all speech and hearing impaired and the joy of silence is reflected throughout the experience. Customers enjoy the high quality of our teas and coffees as well as the gracious service. All of our tableware is hand crafted in the style of the imperial families of Hue and is available at our workshop and retail store a two-minute walk from the teahouse. In addition to ceramics, we feature embroidered tablecloths and unique accessories. Fair trade operating principles ensure that our disabled artisans and servers receive fair wages and work under safe conditions. We invite you to experience our teahouse and to let us know about your experience. We learn to make improvements to our products and services through customer feedback and good reports encourage others to find their way to our shop to enjoy the silence.

“Peace & Quiet”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

Please do visit the Reaching Out Tea House if you visit Hoi An, it's so lovely and relaxing. We learned about the tea house after visiting the equally impressive Reaching Out artisan shop across the road from Morning Glory, and were so glad we went here! On our last day in Hoi An in the 34 degree we dutifully visited x5 historical sites and then we headed straight to the tea rooms as our reward. It was so peaceful. The girls who work here are mute and deaf but completely accommodating and competent and the service was excellent. If you like nice tea and beautiful tea sets then really you have to come here. It's so simple to order and communicate because all the things you could possibly need there are already written on little wooden cue cards, so stepping in off the street it was super easy to get whatever we wanted! (i.e. cold water)

Sometimes the heat is difficult in Hoi an when one is scurrying from one site to another. So glad that e could provide an oasis of calm and cool!

“Special.”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

If you want to experience something special, something like you have never experienced before, make Reaching Out Tea House a stop while in Hoi An, Vietnam.

It was our "must do" restaurant during our free time (we were there as part of a group tour). We arrived around lunch time to this tranquil spot for tea, iced coffee and delicious treats. (No "lunch" food, fyi).

Service was warm and welcoming. The young women who work there are so kind, pleasant and happy to have you as their guest. I felt as if I was in the living room of a friend.

We ordered a tea sampler, an iced coffee (the ice was made of coffee, too) and many of the light, delicious cookies and treats. I did not realize when ordering we'd receive more than one chocolate cookie, for example, so we ordered 6 of the 8 or so options. When they all arrived, we had a feast of sugary treats on our beautiful table. The china/serving was was beautiful, as was the presentation by our server, as she demonstrated for us how to use and enjoy! She also let us know all of the items we were drinking from were available for sale at the nearby Reaching Out craft shop, which, upon our departure, she pointed us to from outside the shop. (We did some great shopping here, too!)

As we sat, in silence, reflecting on our journey in SE Asia so far and on how what a special find we had in Reaching Out, we felt blessed and grateful we had found such a respite in busy Hoi An.

You should go.

Lovely experience to sit in the silent tearoom although invariably there are always tourists who don't abide by this! Great experience and highly recommended. Excellent teas and coffees made traditionally.

There are no "rules" about the silence that we are trying to foster at the Tea House...it is rather a suggestion that by focusing on the tastes, aromas and feasts for the eyes in our traditionally decorated rooms the experience is enhanced. It is a distraction when some choose to speak in loud voices despite the obvious norm.

Sure hope that you were able to relax and drink in the atmosphere of graciousness.

“Number One in Hoi An For a Good Reason”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

We spent four nights (@ Victoria Resort) this last week in Hoi An and the Reaching Out Tea House was a highlight for sure.

After a long (and very hot) bike ride out and back to Tra Que village the cool calm of the tea house was a splendid respite. The lime juice was a refreshing re-hydrater and the iced coffee (with coffee ice cubes) was brilliant. My wife and I shared a cookie sampler with every morsel better then the last.

The young women who staff the tea house are spectacular and communicate expertly in silence - so much for the spoken word! Was a little surprising that everything was in English - but certainly made is easy to order and explore.

What a great way to unwind, refresh and support this lovely community. This is the number one must-do in Hoi An.

Don't miss the Reaching Out Handicraft Shop/Studio just around the block - another must-do in Hoi An.
