After being distinctly underwhelmed with some of the dishes I'd eaten this week in Hoi An and with so many places to eat, all of which has at least one review of "Best meal ever!!!!" I struggled to reconcile our experiences with the Trip Advisor reviews. We went to Mai fish on a personal recommendation. I read the reviews beforehand and agree with some and disagree with others:
- the quiet but beautiful location by the river - we had dinner on the ground floor
- the higher-than-the-norm prices for Vietnam (but referring to western prices? Are you joking? Have you not eaten out in London since the 70s or something?). That being said our bill was closer to $40 in total than the $25 we'd spent before at places like Morning Glory and Tam Tam cafe
- the staff were extremely attentive without being over-bearing and their level of service was exceptional
- the food, oh the food! Superby fresh ingredients, beautifully prepared which set the taste buds alight with every mouthful. We had fillet of snapper and pork shoulder with the standard accompianmentsmof rice, veg and soup. Everything was perfect. By far and away the best meal we've had in Hoi An and Vietnam
