“Outstanding service in a nice atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2013

I arrived New Year's Eve in cold weather (19 C), but the entertainment and buffet the hotel provided (included in price of my booking) made up for it.
The beach is relatively narrow and almost disappears at high tide, and the red flag was out most days, but good for long walks in the sand.
Nevertheless I enjoyed a few relaxing days at the hotel, several times taking advantage of their free shuttle service to Hoi An (about 30 min). Also booked a 1h sidecar ride to a nearby vegetable village (much visited by bike tours), including driving on some dirt roads, which was great fun, once the excellent driver got the engine of the antique motorcycle started.
Free bike rental is available from the hotel. Alternative river boat transport to Hoi An can be booked too.
Complimentary Wifi available in the room showed good signal strength most of the time, but low speeds made my connection break down a bit too often.
The reception staff was always willing to help with any questions and provided very personal service. Much more enjoyable than any of the larger resort hotels along China Beach.

Room Tip: rooms facing the street can be noisy, beach or garden view is preferable. Beachfront rooms/villas ar...

We received a warm welcome on our arrival and were quickly escorted to our room, although we had asked for a deluxe. on viewing our cottage/room we quickly changed rooms as it appeared the closeness of the beach was somewhat disconcerting!, huge ocean, big waves, wind and just too much noise from the sea! However once settled into our new room, further back from the beach, it was time to unwind and enjoy the tastes and flavours of the local environment.
Service generally good, choice of food and presentation good and the hotel is only a short taxi ride from Hoi An, although the hotel provides a shuttle bus as well.

My friend and I had booked to stay 3 nights with The Victoria in early December but we enjoyed our stay that much we ended up staying 5 nights. The staff where impeccable! They went out of their way to make sure our stay was comfortable and pleasurable from start to finish. Making outside phone calls on our behalf, chasing down the DVD player so we could enjoy a movie, cleaning our room on request and they even brought us a selection of food from the buffet breakfast one morning as we were feeling too unwell to get out of bed. As we stayed a few extra nights they also were very happy to help out with changing our flights and organizing a taxi to the airport despite their resort offering the service themselves. Each day the staff would greet us with a friendly smile and by the end of the stay we even had jokes going with a few of them. We stayed in the Superior Garden Villa (Stunning sunset at night over the lake) and although it didn’t have sea views it was still beautiful and we didn’t find it noisy from the road like some previous reviews had mentioned. I remember one of the first things I did when we opened the door to our room which was lay on the bed and I tell you I wasn’t disappointed. Not only was it huge but it was so comfortable with lots of pillows. We only ate at the resort on one occasion as they had a seafood buffet on the night we arrived and it was amazing, the selection of food that was offered was unreal, we didn’t know where to start. Throughout dinner we also got to enjoy traditional Vietnamese dancing which I thought was a nice touch. Although it is not situated in the town centre (Approx 4 minutes away) they do offer a daily bus service but we opted to take a taxi in everyday sometimes twice which only costs between 65,000 – 75,000 thousand Dong each way which is around $3 - $4 US dollars. Hoi An was my favorite place by far in Vietnam and The Victoria had a lot to do with that. I would defiantly recommend staying at this resort, Young / Couples and Families it’s appropriate for all types.

We had a great time at the Victoria in Hoi An. Staff were helpful and recommendations for tailors and restaurants within the town were spot on.

Our room was wonderful and the bed was comfy. The water pressure in the bathroom left a bit to be desired. Though wifi is available, it is a very weak connection. We found the curtains a bit hard to use (and you needed to use them as otherwise the rooms were very open). The shuttle bus service was excellent and generally came often enough though it could do with an extra service between 2pm and 6pm in the afternoon.

The breakfast buffet is great but service is poor. I found that whenever the restaurant was busy - which it always was at peak breakfast times- the service fell apart a bit. One morning I struggled to get a cup of tea for what seemed like forever. Tea and coffee isn't self-service and you have to order it, but it was always a bit of an ordeal and I never order anything complex (i.e. no milk). Even Vietnamese tea took forever, which is usually on tap and instant everywhere in Vietnam.

The restaurant in general was excellent. We went to two of the dinner buffets, one Vietnamese and the other seafood themed, which were amazing. I was worried that the authenticity of the food would be compromised as it is a foreign-owned hotel chain but the Vietnamese food was amazing and included local Hoi An specialities. The seafood and food generally was super fresh. I loved the stalls with chefs - for example making rice paper from scratch and then rice paper rolls right in front of you. Though you pay more eating here than you would in town, the value for money is great given the selection of the buffet.

We went on a day tour of My Son with a private car arranged through the hotel which went smoothly. We also booked a private car to travel to Hue at the end of our stay which was great. The hotel is a great resource in terms of the recommendations it has to offer and the help it can offer in your trip around Vietnam in general. We also got great street food and general food recommendations from staff for eating in Hue which were amazing.

The weather in Hoi An was disappointing which meant we couldn't use the hotel to its full advantage. We only got one afternoon of sunshine that we could spend in the pool and walking along the private beach.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel but probably not over central Vietnam's wet season (October-March) because it just won't be worth what you are paying for. I think to take full advantage of the Victoria it is best suited to families or larger groups.

We arrived at the Victoria on Christmas eve and didn't have the best start . Although we had booked airport transfer to the hotel (& I had emailed them with flight changes) they did not collect us. We took a taxi and found out that the hotel would have charged us double the cost of the taxi for the airport pick-up. So my advice is to take a taxi don't have the hotel airport pick up/drop off. Christmas eve entertainment was expensive and disappointing and it was compulsory for us to attend. Included in the price were a couple of cocktails, buffet and a short dance programme (cost approx.US$88 each incl. children) The evening was finished by 9.30 pm. On the plus side, the hotel is right on the beach and has a beautiful swimming pool. The breakfast buffet is excellent with a good choice of food. The rooms are spacious and clean with a lovely bathroom. The hotel does offer a free shuttle bus into Hoi an which is useful but the bus schedule isn't always convenient with a 4 hour gap in the afternoon. As it rained alot whilst we were there we paid for a taxi back to the hotel most days. The hotel excursions are also expensive although well organised.

This 4 star resort exceeded our expectations. It is very Victorian and historic in its fit out and this theme is carried through to the rooms which had a lovely Asian dark timber style. Our room was near to the main reception building which was convenient, however did not afford a direct beach view that other reviewers have remarked on. The bathroom was a good size with plenty of shelf space which is rare. A lovely big spa size bath was lovely and the separate toilet is a good addition. The breakfast buffet was excellent and service brisk and cheerful. Unfortunately during our stay it was cool and rainy so we didn't get to use the pool or swim in the ocean, however the pool setting looked lovely. My visits to the spa were outstanding, with lovely service from the welcome tamarind juice drink to the excellent massage. My manicure was skilfully done by a lovely therapist, using OPI products. The hotel shuttle bus is a convenient way to travel to the old town, unfortunately we waited at the designated pick up point at the scheduled pick up time - however the shuttle bus didn't arrive. A taxi one way was approx $7USD. The highlight was the New Years Eve Gala dinner - with a sumptuous buffet that included too many dishes to mention - which were among the best food we have eaten on this trip. The entertainment on the evening was I believe the 'Saigon Circus' and consisted of the most amazing acrobats and dancers we have ever seen. Top marks to the hotel for their organisation of the most amazing evening.

It is nice that we got upgraded to ocean front deluxe. It is so near to the beach, which you almost feel it is a private beach. Everything is decent in general, but the time schedule of the shutter to Hoi An ancient town is kind of difficult to match with our schedule. The price from the travel agent inside the hotel to the My Son sanctuary is pricey tho. I recommend any interested person should go to the ancient town to quote for price. There are lots of options for the breakfast buffet.
