“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2014

We stayed at the Sunrise for 4 nights over Christmas.

We were disappointed when we booked that we had to pay USD 220 for a Christmas Eve dinner buffet, there was no flexibility, if you were staying at the hotel, you had to pay it. Hope they change that policy in the future. I was unwell on Christmas Eve and could not enjoy the buffet so we paid it for nothing.

That said, it is a lovely hotel. At check in, you are provided with an overview of the hotel and the amenities. It is true that we were also provided the name of a tailor in town who the hotel recommended. This didn't bother us as we used the tailor and found them to be really good. However I take the point that it does seem inappropriate however I think everyone in Hoi An has someone to recommend to you.

The hotel grounds are beautiful, 2 pools, walk out to the water. Gorgeous landscaping. The weather was cold so we did not enjoy the pool but it looked great.

Breakfast was a buffet and it was extensive, the biggest I have seen. Issue was the hotel was full and so we waited most mornings to get a table. The food was good. Breakfast was the only meal we had at the hotel. They have a spa but we did not use it as the pricing was quite high.

They have a gym however for the size of the hotel (222 rooms) it was very small. 2 treadmills, 2 bikes and some weights. We went twice and it was busy both times, we waited for equipment. They do have tennis courts which would be another option for a work out.

Location was ok, it is a good 15 minute ride into Hoi An. They have a shuttle which runs regularly, however not every hour, which I hope they change. We always ended up taking a taxi back as we missed the shuttle, Taxi is $6 USD plus tip. There is nothing else around the hotel so if you are looking for a beach break, time around the pool, you will like it. We felt like we spent most of our time in shuttles and taxis. We would have preferred to stay closer to the town.

Staff was fine. They were helpful. It was my birthday while we were there and the front desk wished me a happy birthday in the morning and when we returned in the evening, there was a cake and card in the room - very nice touch.

We stayed in Suite 3127. The room was big! Front hallway with a small bathroom which led into a TV sitting room. Big corner couch, big screen TV. The bedroom was a separate room, also big, with a king sized bed. White sheets and comforter, black out drapes. Bathroom attached. Big with a nice shower and a bathtub. Room was very clean with big bright windows. Bed was very comfortable and room was really quiet. We slept really well.

However the bathroom was really dark. Not sure if it is hip but it was so dark, I did my make up in the TV room where there was some nature light. They need to add more lights in the bathroom. Also the room was huge but the storage space was limited. Good room to hang things but there were only 3 small drawers. And the bathroom counter was quite small so no where to really put anything on the counter. We had to keep our toiletries bags on the floor.

Overall our stay was ok, we felt like we overpaid (particularly due to the mandatory Christmas Eve dinner) however we left our booking too late and the Sunrise was the only hotel with availability.

We had a wonderful experience in this resort. The room was large, well decored and organized. The breakfast with huge selection from Western to Vietnamese selection. It was one of the best breakfast buffet we have ever had. It could be perfect if the bread had better quality. The staff were friendly and helpful. Thank you Ms.Loan for giving us the special surprise on our honey moon when we were dining in the restaurant. Well displayed, well organized and well done in most aspects.

We have just spent 5 nights atThe Sunrise. To start at the beginning we had a terrible check in experience. You are sat down with a reservations clerk who spends 30minutes telling you where you must shop for clothing and shoes. We were tired and just wanted to get to our room. Once he had finally checked us in he wouldn't give us the key but took us to our room and wouldn't leave! It was very uncomfortable. The same reservation gentleman would bail us in the lobby every time we went to breakfast or out to the pool to ask us if we had been shopping yet. Very annoying.
Restaurant - food was lovely but the restaurant is extremely disorganised. The staff are all very friendly but they have no training what so ever. You have to constantly check your order, where are the drinks, plates are not cleared between courses. The worst was that there are not enough tables for all guests to have breakfast. The way that the restaurant deals with this is by making you stand in the lobby along with 20 other people who are waiting for breakfast while new people wander in and no one takes note of who is waiting first. Complete shambles.
Deluxe oceanview room- the room is very large which is nice. The bed and bedding are of a very low quality and quite uncomfortable. The day of our arrival the bed sheets and pillow cases were stained. The room has terrible lighting and for ladies there is no mirror with light to do hair and makeup. We had a room for 3 peoplebuthousekeeping would only leave 2 towels so everyday we had to call and ask for another towel!
Shuttle Bus- this is a great service but the bus holds 15 people and only goes once an hour. I can't understand why management does not run this service constantly during the day. As it is now unless you are working your holiday to a schedule and are ready to book times a day in advance it is more convenient to pay for a taxi than to use the service provided by the hotel.
Another thing to note is that we really liked the location but the hotel is 6kms fro

Ok sums up many aspects. Loved the honeymoon wine nut no bottle opener. Loved the honeymoon cake but no plate or knife or spoon. Breakfast was a very wide selection but not outstanding. Hotel is approx 6km from old Hoi An and nothing near by at all so shuttle bus that goes sort of hourly but not between 11:00am - 2:00pm is the best option. Not a fan of NYE gala dinner at ridiculous price of $250 a head. Recent comments from Emjay111, Mon_Londo & Sheridia are pretty accurate. Like many Aussies that have experienced similar in Bali, like Mandira & Padma, you will not be experiencing better here. Recent Typhoon hindered access to the beach but it didn't look too inviting for swimming anyway. Pool looked good but weather not friendly. No major complaints but wouldn't stay or recommend to others. As usual staff friendly and helpful but was paying for more than just ok.

We spend 4 nights at the hotel - I am Vietnamese American and traveling with young family in Late Dec 2013.
Pros:
- Nice hotel with friendly and helpful staffs.
- Impressive common areas (lobby, pools, landscape
- Excellent breakfast with a good mixture of Vietnamese and Western dishes

Cons:
- The hotel is only 2 year old but is showing age already.
- Cua Dai beach is pretty exposed so lots of strong wind throughout our stay
- It is at least 4 miles from the historical area of Hoi An and the free shuttle is infrequent (once an hour)

We had a pleasant time there, enjoy the bfast, then do into Hoi An for sight seeing. We usually take the taxi back $6 one way. We didn't really use the common areas that much. Too cold and windy. We used the kidclub twice, nice small room, a good facility for family.
It suffered some recent damage from the typhoon, the beach washed away and some of the villas were damaged.

The resort itself is great - top-notch decor, furnishings, rooms, showers, dining and bars, really felt these areas were five stars. However, and much to our great disappointment, the service was pretty appalling. Breakfast is chaos - we were told to wait but without any semblance of organization or list, we watched loads of others either barge past or get seated before us. When we were seated, we were told to go get our food whilst our table was cleaned. Nope - ended up standing next to our table with plates of food, trying to flag down someone to sort the table. Even then, it was an incredibly disjointed effort. One guy took half the plates, another took the rest and brought napkins, another wiped the table and I was left to start opening drawers and storage units around the restaurant to find silverware lest we wait another 20 minutes for someone to acknowledge us! The food is great but there wasn't much of a service mentality at all, although dinner and lunch service was a bit better (but not much). The housekeeping and groundskeeping staff were much friendlier than anyone serving food or drink. Called the spa to book a reservation and was told they were busy and would call back. Didn't happen and I ended up going down to do it in person; not much available for time slots so didn't get to experience it. Not too many smiles from anyone (except housekeeping and groundskeeping). Shuttle service worked fine for us and we were glad to have it. The beach has been badly battered by the typhoon but more importantly, the beach erosion is catastrophic - the front end of the resort is marred by sandbags and is closed for swimming. The side beach is okay but your sun session is accompanied by the sound of backhoes and bulldozers nearby doing everything possible to stem the inevitable encroachment of the sea. Pools were nice but January is a bit chilly to enjoy them much!

I have been staying at this resort with my partner. The staff was very friendly although their English level caused some minor missunderstanding. The resort was huge and had a great outdoor area and a great pool with a nice bar. The gym was a bit small. The spa was great and the staff very friendly and experienced. We got a deal with halfboard included and so we ate quite often at the restaurant. The breakfast was ok...nothing special and the room was so crowded that we did not get a seat one time. Dinner and lunch were okay - although the restaurant was empty the service took quiet long. They provided a regular shuttle service to the centre. Big minus: one could smell that someone smoked in our room and the housekeeper never arranged the room.

Would stay again for the friendly staff and the grat outdoor area (and the great deal we got).
