Owner description: "Hoi An Free Tour" is a local university students organization who offer as free bicycle tours to unexplored countryside in Hoi An such as Kim Bong Village, Tra Que Vegetable Village and Cam Thanh Water Coconut Palm Village. You can bike around villages and see stunning rural scenes, rice paddies, fishing villages, fields of water buffalo and Bamboo Bridge. You will learn and get many insides which are never written on guide books. It's all about a cultural exchange and giving the volunteer students opportunities to practice their English language skills through outdoor activities

If tailors, shoe makers and trinket sellers are starting to blur your vision, you need to get out of town for a breath of fresh air.

A Kim Bong Island bicycle tour will only take you half a day and it's a relaxed, low-impact cycle to see boat builders, mat makers and cau lau (rice pancake) cooking. No pressure to buy anything, you'll get a small glimpse of village life in an area where the children still call out "hello" to passing cyclists.

Kim Bong Island is only 5 or 10 minutes by ferry from central Hoi An, but it feels like a world away.

This informal half day tour takes you across the river to a crafts island to encounter the typical vietnamese lifestyle.

The students who run the tours are friendly, chatty and good-humoured. We really enjoyed the time we spent cycling around the village with the two girls who took us to visit local craftspeople. We tried our hand at making a bamboo sleeping mat and rice pancakes, rode the ferry, visited a wood carving workshop and a boatmakers' yard, checked out a temple, and finished up in a quaint hidden cafe. The girls gave us tons of great recommendations to eat like the locals do.

The tour lasts around 8.30-12.30 and isn't 100% free; there are ferry fares and contributions to the craftspeople. We felt the girls deserved a tip too.

Highly recommended.

We went on a bicycle tour to the island of Kim Bong with a bunch of amazing students. Its a fantastic way of gaining insight into the daily life of rural vietnam. The students were friendly, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and spoke perfect english. We were given a tour of boat making, noodle making and mat making in villagers' homes.
Thank you for the lovely experience !

Thank you Quyet for taking us on a very pleasant ferry trip and bike ride to the village. I really enjoyed seeing so many different activities such as the boat building, rice pancake making, and mat weaving.
Have a much better understanding about Vietnamese village life.
