“Amazing Restaurant”

I ate many times during my stay in Hou An. The food is incredibly good especially the yellow fin tuna and the local style wontons. The decor is lovely and the layout is well thought out. A must visit.

“Worth a trip”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2012

This restaurant is right in the centre of the old quarter, surrounded by loads of other restaurants, bars and markets, it has got 2 entrances one of them being the riverside walk. It has got a nice feeling about it, with an exterior and interior area, both nicely decorated. I had a very nice cocktail there as suggested by previous reviews (and nice cocktails are difficult to have in Vietnam as they don’t seem to know what they are!)We had the best spring rolls of our whole trip in Vietnam, having chosen a mixed selection with those netty crispy ones (amazing) and some soft rice noodles ones. The main course was alright but nothing exceptional, had some strange chicken mushroom pie or something called like that with looked more like chicken meat balls with noodles. Also had bananas fritters with ice cream which were nice. Overall, good atmosphere, service might have been a tiny bit on the slow side, but that’s not something that bothers us, food was either very good or average, but on the base of the quality of those spring rolls, would probably go back to try a different main course. In terms of price, one of the more expensive places we have been in Vietnam but still good value for money as food is so cheap in this country.

“Fun cooking class and delicious food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2012

The cooking class we did at Lantern Town with chef Son was one of the highlights of our trip to Vietnam. Son showed us how to make crispy spring rolls, sweet and sour soup, fish cooked in banana leaf and green papaya salad. He was a wonderful teacher, very generous with sharing both general cooking tips and his knowledge of Vietnamese cuisine, and his English was excellent.
After a couple of hours of cooking instruction we then enjoyed the dishes we had cooked as lunch. The spring rolls, made with high-quality, lean minced pork, were among the best we had in Vietnam. The sweet and sour soup was perfectly balanced and the green papaya salad cool and crunchy. We received copies of all the recipes we'd made so that we can replicate these dishes at home.
We also enjoyed a dinner at Lantern Town. We were there during Earth Hour and the staff lit the room with candles for the event. Food and cocktails were both great.

“Emphasis on happy hour, but good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2012

We chose Lantern Town because it was raining. When we got there it was the height of happy hour, and we were tempted to join in. However, we had wanted to eat as well, and feared that the food would be a poor accompaniment to the drink. In fact, we ate really well here, with some delicious local starters (I recommend the local spring rolls), followed by huge bowls of local noodles. The price was good too, at about $30 for three, including happy hour drinks. Check it out.

“Awesome food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2012

We ordered two Vietnamese dishes, a fish and a chicken. Both were excellent. We sat on the first floor balcony, the view of the ricer was terrific and the decor inside was also good.

The staff was also patient and polite.
