“Trad instruments, singing, costumes”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2012

Quick overview of the instruments not too long a show but enough to give ataste of traditional music. Low stools a bit uncomfortable. Free show, Donation box to support the shows seemed to be mostly ignored. I thought a small cover charge wouldnt have been a problem as it was popular, Attached to display sales area of traditional cafts which were a bit pricey compared to the town.

“A great intro into the old town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2012

Many tourist would easily miss this opportunity. It would be easy to walk past the opportunity to tourist check points and places of interest in the old town. But on our visit we were taken on a very brief tour and taken to the points of interest in the Old Hoi An. It was a great way to get our bearings and to be on our way for the next week...solo.

“Good place to see some Vietnamese cultural activities”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2012

Definitely worth a visit as part of a walking tour in the Hoi An Old Town. They have two music/dance shows (about 30 mins long) per day, every day.

“Performers were talents, but lacked atmosphere.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2012

The outside of the theatre gave us the impression that it was quite lovely inside. We paid 70,000vnd for the performance at 9pm. When we arrived we were simply told to go up the stairs, yet it was dark inside with no lights and leaking roof. We went up the stairs to find a medium sized room with some old wooden chairs in it. A few other people were there. The seats were uncomfortable. The room was dirty and not that nice to be in.

The performers were very talented! They played some amazing music using traditional instruments. We saw a variety of performances including singing, dancing, opera etc. Some of it was quite good. Other parts appeared to be over the top just for tourists.

I needed to go to the toilet before the show. There were no signs and no one could help. We had to go into a dark basement and feel our way.

I only rate this as poor as the overall experience was not great. But some of the performers were amazing.
Little did we know that you can actually see them perform daily (a shorter performance) at the Handicraft Workshop as part of the Hoi An ticket. We briefly watched this the next day on our walk, they did some different items.
