Thuan Tinh Island - Cooking Tour

Recommended length of visit: More than 3 hours
Owner description: Thuan Tinh Island is a small isolated island, around 3.5 km far from Hoi An Ancient Town, on Thu Bon River. Thuan Tinh Island is an eco-friendly island rich in tropical foliage making it a beautiful place to cook, relax and then enjoy the dishes you've created, Thuan Tinh Island Cooking Tour. We organize daily cooking classes at Thuan Tinh Island: pick-up at the hotels in Hoi An area. You will make your first stop at the market to purchase some fresh and locally grown herbs, before joining a river boat ride in 30 minutes to Thuan Tinh for a relaxing meander through what has been officially recognised as an ecological zone. To visit the local Village, we take a row boat ride through the water coconut trees. We then walk through the gardens to visit a local family and snack on grilled rice cakes and iced tea. From there, we head back to our open-air cooking class overlooking the water coconut trees and river. Our chefs will show you how to make Vietnamese food while you enjoy the cool breeze and peaceful setting. That is much more than simply a cooking class as a journey to discover the eco island that makes you satisfied.

“Professional, fun cooking class.”
Reviewed December 8, 2012

After arriving in Hoi An, we discovered that we were livid with choice for cooking tours. Thuan Tinh Island Cooking Class caught our eye, as the boat ride and location varied from other tours offered for a similar price.

We are so glad that we chose Thuan Tinh Island Cooking Class; our guide Mo acted as a fantastic guide providing local knowledge, as well as translating our wonderful chef with great English. The food was delicious and both Mo and the chef were on hand to help us the whole time.

Would definitely recommend as a cooking tour in Hoi An.

“fantastic cooking class!”
Reviewed December 8, 2012

This was an all round excellent experience. From the peaceful boat trip through the water bamboo plantation, trying our hand at threshing, grinding and making rice milk for our traditional pancakes, this school gave wonderful insights. We booked a cooking class and got an education about Vietnamese food, ingredients and cooking styles. The level of aattention was astounding, we had 1 chef to 2 of us with a head chef guiding 6 altogether. When the other 2 chefs weren't helping us they were helping the head chef bringing ingredients and removing used utensils and bringing ours ready for our turn so the whole thing was a smooth and professional operation. The relaxed traditional bamboo roofed hut was well equipped, spacious, cool and comfortable. This cooking school may not have a trendy name but this reflects its attention to the personal, local level of it's focus and not a need to create a pretentious market presence. If you want the real experience this is the place to do your cooking class. Even the vegans and vegetarians were happily catered for no problem at all!

“Highlight!!!!!!!”
Reviewed December 4, 2012

We did this class to celebrate my friends birthday and it was brilliant! All the recipes were fantastic and I couldn't fault the staff! This place is brilliantly set up! in a huge open air thatched building with bottled water and high hygiene standards used throughout!

Boat ride and canoe through the palm "mangroves" was a treat wearing the traditional hats!

I would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat!

Thankyou soooooooooo much!

“Highlight of trip to Vietnam”
Reviewed December 1, 2012 via mobile

The staff were very welcoming - the market tour was interesting - the boat ride relaxing and the cooking class thorough and entertaining. The setting of the class is also very beautiful.

Another huge tick, was the fact that they broke the classes up into small groups. This made the whole experience very personal and you feel very well looked after.

Highly recommended ++++

“Cooking in an outdoor, well set up location”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

We enjoyed this cooking class as it was a little different to another class we had done in Hanoi on a separate trip. This class included a market trip to purchase the required ingredients. Our guide was a very friendly, personable young woman, named Hua I think. We then had a half hour boat ride to the idea with a group of 13 people. The trip was very picturesque past the large fishing nets etc.

The island where the cooking class is done only has 7 people living on it. All the water is imported and hygeine standards were very high. One of the magical parts of this trip was when we arrived on the island we then went on a short boat trip along waterways through the palms. It was serene and quite wonderful. We saw various demonstations such as grinding the husk off rice, then grinding into rice milk .

The food preparation was demonstrated by a chef, then we replicated the dishes, mostly at our own personal work stations. Very professionally set out with many able assistants. We made a range of dishes - pho, bahn xeo plus other delicious dishes. I would recommend this trip.
