“Good cooking skills, good fun, short time, no drinks”
Reviewed March 25, 2011

If you look for a professional course, do not go there. If you want to learn basic tecniques of the vietnamise cuisine, you are in the right place.
We did a 4 course menu at 16$ per person. We had fun.
However, I have a BUT. When we came in to start the course, one of the staff brought us the menu and asked us if we wanted something to drink, but when I saw the prices I said NO WAY. All drinks were overpriced. If you can take a bottle of water with you, do it. Anyway, the cooking class was good, learning new things.
And do not expect a 2 hour course as announced. Our 4 course menu lasted 1 hour.
But good taste and fun.

“Private class that is about cooking and eating”
Reviewed March 13, 2011

We did not want to spend half a day or more going to the markets or countryside villages and that why this cooking class was for us.
We did 5 courses with just enough preparation to get the idea and then could taste the results. All the meals were great and will be easy to do in the future plus you get a recipe book as well. Tere were just the two of us doing the course,we selected 7pm and had a feast.
For a cheap educational fun night out its pretty hard to beat

“Learn Vietnamese cooking with a singing cook”
Reviewed March 7, 2011

We stumbled on Gioan & were attracted by the classes "anytime" & range of dishes to chose from. We ate at the restaurant 1st & liked the food. Our cook was Hanh, a very happy teacher with the charming habit of singing instructions. We had so much fun cooking we were almost sorry we had to stop to eat what we'd cooked. Cost $US16 each for 4 dishes - means that the instruction fee is about $US5 each. Hard to imagine there could be any better class in Hoi An.

“Very good fun, flexible and value for money”
Reviewed February 18, 2011

We stumbled across Gioan on Trip Advisor while we were in Hoi An as the class we had been recommended turned out to be an all day thing which was more than we wanted. We chose the 3 dishes for $9 option (this is per person on a private class for 2 - or more however big your family/friend group is - not some big herd of people in a school room style), picked the time of day that fitted in our schedule (we chose 11am so we could eat our food fun lunch), and the dishes we wanted to learn to make. The techniques are not complex and are well explained so you feel comfortable to do them again at home. Vina is very funny, and would likely be a good teacher if you had kids with you or have no confidence in cooking. The only thing that spoilt it a little was at the end she got out a bag of stuff (aprons etc) to try and sell us and it was a bit awkward, so be prepared - but hey it's Hoi An ("buy from me" being the local catchphrase)!

“Great fun, Great food !”
Reviewed February 17, 2011

We had originally wanted to do the Morning Glory cooking class, but they were all booked. We happened to walk past Gioan at night and decided to give it a try. We paid $20 to cook 5 dishes that you can choose from a list that includes all the basics like claypot, pho, spring rolls etcetc. Our cook was Vina and she was hilarious. Lots of jokes, lots of singing. This is not a class for someone who wants to learn crazy technique or anything, just a fun introduction to vietnamese food. Highly reccomended !
