stayed here for what was meant to be three nights in hoi an, plans changed and we missed our first night. arrived here at 7am after being on a godawful night bus and were greeted with smiles and a glass of fresh watermelon juice each. the rooms were huge by vietnam standards and very clean. beautiful baguettes included in the complimentary breakfasts in the morning with homemade jam or eggs and ham and the fresh passionfruit juice, delicious! pointed us in the direction of a good tailor and were happy to help sort out any other tours and things. thank you for being so nice! located on the little island but still only a five minute walk to hoi an town.

Clean and tidy with nice pool and good breakfast. Lovely bathroom and shower (no bath). However, 20 min walk into town (not as they claim 10 mins) as it is on a residential island which means it is quiet but we avoided walking there at night. Extra food on sight rather expensive and greasy so better to eat in town. Quite a lot of rooms crammed on to site.

I had been worried about what we would find at the Windbell "homestay" but we ended up staying five nights, extended from our original 3, as Hoi An and Windbell were so good. Lovely helpful staff and the most beautiful grounds. Our family of five were upgraded from two Plum suite rooms to the Carambola two bedroom suite. It is a self contained villa overlooking the pool. It is huge, high ceilings, air conditioned, nicely furnished and the bathrooms are amazing. It is not a homestay as such, more of a mini resort. The breakfasts are great, more than plentiful as our two teenage boys discovered. It is across the bridge from the market streets, about a 10 minute walk, very pleasant we found as on the way you can arrange for your washing to be done and hire a bike or scooter. Bike hire and laundry are a bit more expensive at Windbell and better arranged on your walk in to town. Airport pick up from Danang was in an air conditioned Toyota 4WD seven sweater, very courteous driver. All in all a great find.

Having travelled many places in Vietnam, I was very surprised with lack of hospitality of this place.
This is my first time to write a comment like this, but I should have read the comments from “Average”, “Poor” and “Terrible”, they are more accurate.
Hygiene: From day one, the pillows smelled strange, so I brought pillowslips to the reception, and asked to change it, but they did not seem to understand what was wrong. I had to put up with dirty sheets for three nights.
Noise: This place is facing the busy street and depending on the room, you would not be peaceful. The sound of motorbikes starts from 4:00am and never stops until 11:00pm. It was so noisy that I could not sleep well. Reading books at the swimming pool, forget! It is too noisy. Well, noise is not only from the road, but also from the family.
Communication: They did not care how the guests feel, instead they insisted the way they operate. When I asked which one was shampoo because there was not English description on the local amenities which were cheaper than any backpackers place, they could not explain. There was only one person who spoke English, without her, there would not be any communication. What happened was they stopped supplying these amenities. I had to stay without shampoo and soup. It is “homestay”, so staff are not well trained at all. They do not understand the concept of service.
Location: It is far away from the centre. Especially, at night, you need to catch a cab to come back. It is too dark to walk.
I found there are so many better places in Hoi An if you pay US$60. The cost performance here was too bad.

We spent two nights here in November 2012.

We originally chose the Areca room but were kindly upgraded to the Jackfruite villa which was beautiful. Huge spacious room with a bar, sofas and kitchen area, extremely clean (and was serviced every day), complimentary mineral water and as it was our honeymoon, they kindly gave us a bottle of wine too. The room opened out into the pool area and also had a private balcony. The bathroom was very clean as well; artistic with plants and a rock/pebble shower floor (pretty but a bit tender on the feet!) and a bath, and well equipped with comb/hairdryer/shower gel etc.

The pool was small but a gorgeous feature of this homestay.

They also do laundry at reasonable prices.

Yes it is a km away from the centre but we had no problems. We rented bicycles and it was actually one of my favourite parts of our trip, cycling quite safely through wide roads (NB: perpetually flat tyres, but easy to ride Dutch style bicycles with baskets). Care is needed cycling through junctions in town though!

We were picked up without issue from the train station - nice and uncomplicated. The driver made us stop at a shop along the way with overpriced ornaments, clearly expecting us to buy something...We weren't too keen on this, especially when we just wanted to get to the hotel after a long train ride. However, although they were surprised by our cursory visit, they did not pressure us to buy anything.

We had arranged an excursion to Mysore through them and unfortunately had to cancel belatedly the night before as I was ill, but they were very accommodating of this. Breakfasts, however were rigid, despite me being ill and up the entire night being sick, they would not serve any food after 10am (which was fair enough as they had stipulated breakfast times previously). They did put some fruit on a tray though. The one breakfast we did have here was not amazing though (choice of stir fried rice/eggs/pancake) - was pretty dense, carb-heavy and greasy.

They were very accommodating on our last day and let us use the day room (Plum room). This was extremely useful. We would definitely advise to stay in the villas rather than the Plum rooms (much smaller/less airy) though. Never got to see the Areca room in the end!

We did hear of people who spent much less than us on accommodation but we haven't stayed at those places to compare. The price did seem expensive, but it was a beautiful spacious place. We were glad for the upgrade anyway, for the price we paid.

Apart from the breakfast, we were very satisfied with our stay - would give 4.5 if we could. The rooms, pool and cleanliness are worth it and the km away from town was actually a positive attribute.

Room Tip: Jackfruite villa or Pool side rooms are best.

My wife and I stayed here in Sept 2012, and really enjoyed our stay here.
The Jack Villa we stayed in, was both spacious and very clean.
There is a nice warm pool to lounge around if you have had a day walking around Hoi An.
The Homestay is about a 10 to 15 min walk away from the centre of Hoi An, and is in quite a residential area.
Breakfast is cooked fresh every morning by the family who run the Homestay.
The family who run this Homestay, are very friendly and welcoming, even at night when we were quite often back late and had to get them out of bed to let us in, we were always met with a smile.
We had our 1st Anniversary while we stayed then, and they arranged to have some lovely flowers, bottle of wine, and a really nice card with a lovely message on it, left in the room for my wife.
On the day we left, they gave us a gift of a set of wind chimes, which we thought was a lovely touch.
All in all we enjoyed our stay at the Windbell, and would recommend it to anyone wishing to stay at Hoi An.

Room Tip: Get the Jack Villa overlooking the pool

We stayed 4 nights in Areca villa room, room and bathroom is quite large, opening on to sitting area and to pool. It is clean and surroundings peaceful and restful after busy days in town area. Pool is welcome addition. Breakfast was plentiful, local and western options, family were accomodating, and responded to any requests. Taxi to town is only about $1 or so. Walk to town is 20 mins, and at night not so easy because it's dark and footpaths intermittent. We thought the pricing was a bit high compared to other options which, from what other travellers said, would have served our needs just as well. We would stay in the town area next time at lesser price.
