Fresh back after a weeks stay at windbell and really don't understand where these poor reviews have come from. The rooms were clean and the cleanliness of which were maintained, sheets changed daily and not an insect in sight amongst the white stones in the bathrooms. It is situated a whopping 10 minute walk from the town centre, hardly an overly strenuous journey as has been suggested and a taxi really isn't necessary. I did return past 11pm on more than one occasion to find myself being let in in a friendly manner after less than a one minute wait. The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough to help. Admittedly the complimentary shower condiments came in single use sachets but my family and I managed to get by as surprisingly enough we only needed a single use out of each. Would thoroughly recommend the Windbell to anyone wishing to travel to Hoi An

The room we stayed in this place was nice and spacious. But the bed sheets are pillows were dirty. It looked like they just stretched the sheets so it'll look like new sheets and there were stains and smelled dirty and old. I talked to the girl in the reception area and told her about the situation and she gave me an old duvet without covers and told me that the sheets will be changed the next day when the cleaners arrive. It felt like she didn't understand about the importance of hygiene. The hangers that were in the closet were all crooked old wires or recycle from cleaners. It was hard to communicate with the management staff when you have concerns. Although towels were replaced every day but the bathroom was not clean, water stain on the mirror and faucet was not wiped. The place is also far from town and you need to get a taxi to go out eat and shop. There are more places that are closer to town so the next time I go back in Hoi An, I will NOT stay in this place and will never recommend it. Also, check your bill before paying as they claim to be changing their price every month.

We stayed here because it was on sale. I really would not pay anything over $30 to stay here (standard room atleast) because for something outside of town it was not worth it. bike hire was very overpriced also. The lady at reception was not very friendly either and we were locked out after arriving back at 12am and felt bad to have to ring a bell for a goo 5 or more minutes and get the poor things out of bed to let us in. in saying that though the rooms are extemely lovely and clean and the pool is good but just not worth the price they ask.

Dear Jessica,

Thank you for your comment to Windbell Homestay. We are so sorry for these unconvience which you met during staying here. However, I've some explaination about your comment.

Firstly, Windbell Homestay locates outside of town, in an island. This is an quiet village which takes you 15 minutes for walking to the town. It's real a rural. Therefore, there aren't many bars or restaurant like inside the town. We mention about these things on Description about our homestay in website and others.

Secondly, our family also stay here, so the gate always opens until 11:30 PM with a receptionist or housekeeping to waiting for guests come back hotel. After 11:30, the gate will be closed and there's bell on the gate for late coming-back guests. It's informed for guests when check-in or when they go out. Whenever you come back, just ring the bell, our family's willing to get out the bed and open the gate for you. We don't feel annoying about this! So, please don't worry about this ^^.

Our slogan is "Slow Living". Windbell Homestay tries to bring a quiet, fresh, peaceful spaces and valuable for guests after long-day travelling around noisy and activitive town. And we believe they're worth the price we ask for our homestay.

Best regards,
Thao Nhi.

First, the good: the Windbell has 12 attractive rooms amid lush foliage and a lovely pool. The design is attractive. The Plum room we stayed in is spacious, with high ceilings, and handsome wooden doors leading to a private balcony. With these doors and the entry door open, you can get a nice flow of air, or you can close the glass door at the entry, leaving the normal door open, allowing plenty of light while basking in the air-conditioning. The breakfast is very good: a coffee and fresh (not canned) fruit juice, omelet and a plate of selected local fruit set me up for the day.
Now for the bad: Many months ago I booked and paid for two Plum rooms for two couples. When we arrived one was not available. They could not explain why we were not getting what we paid for, and should have booked us into equivalent rooms at another hotel. They told us they had put the four of us into one (larger) room for one night, and had added two single beds, which turned out to be military style metal beds with diabolical mattresses. Over this and other matters communication and hotel management skills turned out to be seriously lacking. The next problem: cleanliness. They don't change the sheets, even if you ask them to do so. I took two stained pillowslips they had not changed (despite a specific request) down to reception and asked for fresh ones. With the pillow slips removed, the pillows themselves were stained. How unhygienic is that? Also, I like a firm mattress, but these ones were cruelly unforgiving, much like the unpadded heavy wooden armchairs in the room which I would defy anyone to sit on comfortably for more than three minutes. The decorative white stones surrounding the shower floor appeared to hide insects such as centipedes along with the faint scent of other guests' urine. Also, I've seen a better selection of shampoo and soap in $15 backpacker places. The Windbell's offerings are cheapskate and out of character with the rooms. Finally, the location: a 15-minute walk to the market, and about a 25 minute walk to the bridge leading to the lantern shops, is challenging in 37 degree heat. We made the trip at least twice a day, but had to use taxis (only a few dollars, admittedly) when it was too hot. But I recommend staying closer to the old town. The final fly in the ointment was the attempt to charge us $60 a night for the room for the extra night, rather than the Agoda figure we had agreed to on the phone.
We will not be back. Other Hoi An hotels at this price point offer much better service and a more personal touch. This hotel appears to think it doesn't need to.

Room Tip: The Plum rooms, the cheapest ones, appeared nicer than the larger Villa room we were forced to endur...

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 day stay at Windbell Homestay. We arrived late due to flight delays but still had a warm welcome and the family opened the kitchen to give us a lovely meal. The room was large and comfortable with a spectacular bathroom. The pool was a welcome relief after a day of exploring Hoi An. The place is just a short, interesting walk from the old part of Hoi An with its historic buildings, shops and great restaurants. Visitors can have as much contact with the family as suits them . We enjoyed talking with them and learning about the family and their interaction in Hoi An while others simply treated them as staff. The family were just as gracious to each approach.

Room Tip: We enjoyed our room in the Plum wing

What a lovely place to stay! We booked for three nights but changed our reservation after being there for three days into 4 nights, we did not want to leave! Windbell is a quiet little resort with beautiful rooms, a nice swimmingpool surrounded with trees and chairs, a snug in the garden where you can read a book or just dream away. The breakfast is very good and the people where so kind. The city is a 15 minutes walk away, with the bike only 5 minutes. Go and enjoy as we did!

We left windbell Homestay this morning and we are already missing it!
To start with the room, we were upgraded with no extra charge. We booked the plum room but we were offered a bigger room opposite the lovely swimming pool on arrival. The bathroom was gorgeous with beautiful plants popping up from the floor feng Sui style. The family who run the hotel were very friendly and made us feel really welcome. They also cooked our delicious breakfast, be sure to sample the banana and the pineapple pancake. The pool is surrounded by gorgeous plants and birds. It is just 10 minutes walk from town and if you email them in advance they can arrange to pick you up or drop you off to the airport. Can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Ask for one of the rooms that overlook the pool
