Of the many good things to do in Hoi An, one of my all-time favourites is dining at waterfront restaurant Thuan Y's front table enjoying a cold draught beer (4000 dong/20cents) watching the world go by both on street and water. I've even dubbed the manager Plum "Queen of Hoi An" - it would seem she knows all and all knows her. I would challenge anyone to ask a question about things Hoi An for which she couldn't find the answer. I once asked Plum the meaning of Thuan Y and she explained it meant " follow the thought". Coincidently later that evening a couple seated at the next table asked her for a special Vietnamese dish that wasn't on her menu. Within minutes she had dispatched a staff member to the markets for ingredients and within 15 minutes the delighted guests were presented with their dish. Similarly I once mentioned I would like to take a luncheon cruise on the river with six friends - not only did she organise the boat and food, she also came along and served the food. For me a visit to Hoi An would not be complete without experiencing Plum's hospitality at Thuan Y.
