“Good location, nice rooms and staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2013

The Sunflower hotel has been a nice hostel to stay in, the rooms are clean with comfy beds, their is a free buffet breakfast and friendly staff, also a nice pool.
Staff booked my bus for me quickly, had bikes to rent outside and told us of good tailors in town.

Room Tip: Dorm rooms were nice, thats where i stayed.

A hotel that also has dorm rooms. I stayed in one of the eight bed dorms and it was one of the better hostels I've stayed in. The beds were really comfortable with nice duvets, plus the room had lockers for each bed (but you will need your own padlock). The only downside to the room was the lack of working plugs- having a total of three between eight people and one of which was in the bathroom, so charging phones etc was sometimes an issue. Also there was just one bathroom, however there were two communal toilets/showers near reception that could be used, but obviously not ideal. The bathroom though was pretty good with a proper shower that always had hot water. The hotel does not have that much character but it has a spacious reception area, pool (but always very busy so get there early, plus not enough loungers for the size of the hotel) and communal computers. The price for a nights stay in a dorm bed was almost double what I paid on other hostels in Vietnam, but it is a good quality accommodation plus included in the price is an amazing buffet breakfast with virtually every breakfast food imaginable: it runs from 6.30-10.00 so plenty of time to get your monies worth! The hotel hires bicycles & mopeds, I found it easiest to hire a bicycle for the day (20,000 VND), cycle to the beach on the day, when I got back to the hotel I would let the staff know that I hadn't finished with it, then later that evening use it to cycle to the old town for dinner. There was no time the bikes had to be returned, the charge was literally for the whole day. Overall, I do think the hotel was a bit overpriced, but a decent place to stay in a great location in Hoi An plus it is very easy to meet other travellers there. The only other thong is that when I checked in, I found the staff curt and rude, but the rest of the time they were friendly and welcoming! They also book bus tickets and tours etc. I would stay there again.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Sunflower Hotel while travelling up the coast to Hanoi. I was really pleased with the accommodation, we got a double room which was pretty swanky considering the cheap price.

The Sunflower is around half-way between the beach and town centre (maybe a bit closer to the town, we walked to the beach one day and wished we'd hired bikes to cycle there instead.) The location worked out well since we wanted to visit both. The walk into town was not bad, we got a hotel shuttle to the bus stop when headed to Hue which was handy.

It seemed like quite a young hotel in terms of the crowd, maybe quite a few gap year types (not that i'm that much older but still, not the best) which made the pool less enticing but all in all a really great place to stay in Hoi An.

A decent hostel in Hoi An where there aren't a huge number of dorms available. They have normal rooms and a few dorms - pool which was nice and a decent breakfast included in the price which is good value. Helpful staff as is essential for backpackers - would recommend to fellow travelers.

The staff were very friendly and the rooms were simple yet clean and spacious. The pool wasn't all that refreshing as the water was rather warm but was still nice. Just a bike ride to beautiful beaches and the bar by the pool was convenient! I would stay again!

This place is outstanding for the price. Don't let the name deceive you though, this is a hostel providing for backpackers on a fairly large scale. It certainly wouldn't be unsuitable for other types of traveller, but you may just feel out of place. We had a double room with air con, en suite, tv, kettle and fridge containing drinks/snacks. It was spacious and clean, and was serviced everyday at suitable times.
The breakfast was a real highlight for us at Sunflower, and I think the reason you pay a little more than at other hostels nearer the centre. There was a pancake/omelette station, fresh fruit, cereal, bread, butter & jam, and Vietnamese options. You can eat as much as you like and the drinks are included.
We enjoyed relaxing in the swimming pool when it was hot and the restaurant sells a range of Vietnamese and Western foods.
The food was average to good, and the service I would rate similarly. Most of the restaurant staff were lovely but one girl did her best to look annoyed all the time, and wrongly told us something wasn't available. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, and will book onward bus/train journeys, but you're still left wondering if you got a good deal despite how nice they are.
It was good of the hotel to allow us the use of the facilities all day after we had checked out but had a bus journey late in the day. Also worth noting the laundry service is good here - clothes come back smelling lovely.

The location is a little far from Hoi An's centre, about 15 minute's walk away, but if you rent a bike it's about 5 minutes away. The benefit of its location is you're a bit nearer to the beach, it's only a 15 minute bike ride if that.

Overall I think I would stay here again, it's such good value for money.

Great buffet breakfast. Location is only a few minutes cycle to beach and a few minutes walk to the town centre.
Pool is a great place to chill out and meet some great people.
Rooms are nice with big beds and lots of space.
Friendly staff and always up for a laugh.
