“Second time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2013

we come here for the 2nd time and it is still wonderful. After many years (7) consecutive to Hoi An we finally find our home here at Hoa Su. We already book for next season.

Pros:
- quietness
- friendliness
- Room
- Huge TV
- Some rooms with DVD player
- menu in the restaurant is great ( very well cooked)
- surrounding
- great numbers of bikes FOC
- free fishing for fun
- not so many mosquitos as expected
- free airport transfers
- pool
- good for small children
- small number of rooms

Cons:
- Wifi is weak
- weak driver stopped 100m from hotel for you to take your luggage to the hotel ( he was scared of the small entrance and way to the hotel.
- not directly at the beach or old town ( 2.5 $ taxi each way).
- no permanent restaurant service ( you have to book 3 hrs in advance, anyway you can can order delivery from old city in case of rain)

I recently wrote a review for Ao Lang Villa in Hoi An. Hoa Su is owned and managed by the same people. This place is even better! I was blown away when I first walked onto the grounds. Quiet, beautiful, peaceful, meditative, perfect are the words that come to mind. The large central common area built with intricately carved vietnamese wood, is surrounded by a pond filled with lilies frogs and a happy school of Koi. A large swimming pool is build right into the pond making it seem like you are in the pond! The rooms are spacious with a private outdoor bath/shower. The location is a 5 minute scooter ride out of town and 10 minutes to the beach.
If you like quiet space, a slowing down of time kind of place, with friendly discrete staff, custom breakfast, bicycles to use...this is your Villa.

Room Tip: All rooms facing the central courtyard are similar and any one will be perfect. Perhaps the rooms cl...

After reading so many positive reviews we decided to give it a try just to have one calm day (after 10 days sightseeing and 3 night in train).
First impressions are mixed as road to hotel isn't promising anything good, but the hotel itself was just like on pictures: very beautiful, nicely made (lots of marble, good quality wood etc.), also the pool was very nice. Rooms are quite spacious, but honestly we haven't spent much time there.
The only downside of the pool are the frogs, which are loud like 23 hours a day :(
First disappointment started then we talked to the stuff. If you have been to Vietnam, you know that 90% of the hotels have the most incredible, friendly, helping stuff in the world. So we were surprised, that most of personnel here spoke like 20 English words and their helpfulness was as close to zero as possible.
After rather long journey from Hue we were hungry so asked what could we get to eat. The response was quite interesting: "What do you like? I'll go and buy it for you." Yeah, I've read that their policy that you can get any meal you want, but maybe it's just me, but I'm used to have some menu, some options (even if it's a lot of options), some imagination of pricing etc. So being surprised that they just do the delivery boys function we ordered a pho and it was the most disgusting one we've had in almost 3 weeks. And also the most expensive one as the person we asked for food didn't have the price, we found it only at check-out. Breakfast was no good either, but the biggest problem was to order it as the waiter spoke only Vietnamese and they didn't have menu here as well... Is it so hard to make a simple short breakfast menu: pancakes, eggs, juice...?
The bath on the back of the room is just fantastic idea but... it doesn't work! After we filled it up to 1/4 the worm hot stopped and we only got cold one :( I tried it three time during different parts of day and I'm sure that no one else was using hot water at the time, so please Buy a new boiler!
Officially rooms have 3 showers: one inside, one outside and shower head at the outside bath, but... all three in our room were faulty and leaked heavily. Reported it to the guy at the "reception" and no repairs were done :(
Overall impression is very poor as the only thing we liked was the decoration...
So if you intend to come there please take with you: Vietnamese phrasebook, Boiler, Spare shower head, some food and drinks!

We were really disappointed as it was recommended by friends. Good points: the swimming pool and the common area are very beautiful. Decoration is amazing and it is really quiet. The architecture is done with a great taste and was delightful. Points to improve: 1st, the staff, especially the woman at the welcome desk was unprofessional in our opinion. If you travel with a baby and if you don't like that people try to take your baby from your arms without asking, don't go there. We refused 3 days in a row politely, still she insisted. The last time she tried before we left and I said no, she answered "why are you so complicated?" (sao kho qua vay?). As a guest and customer, I expect some more respect of my own choices. Some people like to be quiet, some not. We like to discuss and let people play and smile with our baby, but not to tear him off our arms. The saturday night, the man at the desk seemed drunk (he smelled strong alcohol), and when we asked to arrange a drop off for the day after to the airport, he understood nothing even in vietnamese and was even not articulating his words(car to pick us up at 5pm, he said 6.30pm? 7pm?) so we let go to arrange it the day of the departure. The room was not clean. We put our feet on the floor, they were dark right away and we could feel the dust. The sofa was full of big spots of we don’t know what, around the mirror it was not clean either, dust in the corner of the table, same in the wardrobes so we didn’t put our things directly in it, but on the extra blanket they gave us. This is not a baby friendly room, as there are 2 small steps on the floor between the bed and the sofa, so we couldn’t let our baby play there. There was a hole between the bed and the sofa, so we had to put pillows in between to make sure our baby wouldn’t fall. It could be a nice hotel for people without baby and who are less strict than us on cleanliness and respect of the peacefulness of the guests

The small boutique hotel is not too far away from the city and not far away from the beach. It sits on the edge of a river. The 5 luxury rooms are beautiful well located and comfortable. They have outside shower and a bathtub in the backyard of the rooms. They are totally private. They are very nicely designed in the middle of green. Then the most amazing design of the pool surrounded by water lilies in a natural pond is fabulous. We had always our breakfast in a pavilion island in the pond! The villa supplies bikes, which were great for riding into town or going to the beach.

Room Tip: The 5 luxury rooms are very nice but we had only one and our kids had another one in the back which...

This place was absolutely amazing. It's a small bed and breakfast type accommodation, with a small number of private rooms/suites available (approximately 7?) It feels like a home stay, but is more luxurious. The room is large, much bigger than any other we stayed in in Vietnam. The outdoor bath and shower and little garden was wonderful, we didn't use the inside bathrooms at all. The pool is gorgeous, with the surrounding oriental pool/fish pond. We only saw a few other people staying at the same time, so we often had the pool to ourselves. It was very relaxing. The staff will bring you a drink to have poolside if you ask them. The staff are very accommodating to all requests. We had daily breakfast of free range eggs (I think from their own chickens), cooked to your liking, bacon, bread, butter, jam, fresh juice. We also had dinner one night, the chefs choice of a Vietnamese seafood dish, it was delicious.
Our favourite thing about this hotel was the location. It is half way between the beach and the old town. The hotel offered free bikes for us to ride to the beach during the day. It was a lovely ride past rice paddies, farmers and a small town. We would then return to the hotel and ride into old town for dinner and to explore the night markets. Either ride is about 10-15 minutes, no hills, very leisurely.
The hotel arranged a private car for us to drive to Hue and over the Hai Van Pass. We loved this place so much that we stayed a few extra nights and sacrificed our time in Hue!

I stayed here three nights with my husband and mother. The first night we were lodged in the upstairs rooms. The one with the balcony that overlooks the driveway is great, and the one above the reception area is a little simpler but still good. However, the hotel wifi does not reach these rooms, so we were pleased to be moved into two of the ground floor rooms the next day. These rooms are much cosier, and it was great to be next door to my mum.

The first night we arrived too late to order supper, but were too tired to go out, so Tuu (sp?) kindly ordered in some takeout, a wonderful introduction to Hoi An food. Our last night we had dinner in for USD10 per person--every bit as good as eating out!

The breakfast isn’t fantastic: nice crusty baguettes, eggs any style and bacon, with fruit. It wasn’t until the last day we discovered banana pancakes were on offer (wonderfully chewy!). We were also told that if we had wanted a Vietnamese breakfast we could have ordered it the night before. But it was too late: so I rather think the Villa Hoasu could do with some sort of breakfast menu!

On our last day, we had to check out at noon, but were not leaving for the airport until 3.30. We had lunch at the beach, and were dreading going to the airport feeling sticky and hot, but Bond (charming fellow!) let us have the use of the spare room behind the reception desk to have a shower and rest a bit. We greatly appreciated this!

The wifi is best in the dining pavilion, but there are also two terminals there for guests to use. The outlets in Vietnam fit North American plugs, so that was handy.

Taxis into town cost about 55,000 VND (about USD2.60) and to the beach about 60,000 VND (USD3).

Don’t pay attention to the churlish review with the uploaded photos of dusty corners and scratches on the wood panelling--the Villa Hoasu is really a lovely place to stay. We are planning to return!
