We stay at this hotel for four nights in January 2014 and we were really disappointed in our choice. The hotel grounds are lovely and the beach setting is quite charming, but that is where the positives stop!
The food and beverage quality and service were shockingly low!! We returned our first cocktails, as they were not drinkable (and stuck to Tiger beer after that) - the bar staff do not appear to trained in any way - and I'd forgive a lot for a good cocktail. We spent a day laying by the pool and every time we wanted a drink, we had to go to bar. No staff offered us a drink or even walked passed us (or collected our old glasses)!
However, there appeared to be an abundance of staff at the hotel - although often in casual clothes and standing around doing nothing. At one point there were six guys standing around the life guard station having a good old chat and one of them put music on his phone on speaker, so they could listen. Not exactly the tranquil setting we imagined. The pool towels were also thread bare and shabby - they ran out of towels on multiple occasions.
The breakfast was pitiful, they ran out of everything, from tea cups to bread. The toaster didn't work and the Egg Man was terrible - scrambled eggs consisted of two eggs cracked into a pan and swished about with a fork. There was no cutlery on the table, no salt and pepper, or any other amenity you would expect at a four star resort.
The house keeping was also poor, I was walked in on in the shower TWICE! I was mortified! The first time, I opened my eyes to see the cleaner staring at me, then she turned around and started to clean! When I jumped out of the shower to tell her it was not a good time, she looked really annoyed and literally just dropped the bundle if towels she was carrying onto the floor and stormed out!
Overall, the room was nice (although the foam mattress was like sleeping on concrete) and our private pool was freezing but very clean and inviting. It seemed like they were putting in a lot of effort to tidy up the place, with lots of painting happening while we were there...but they really need to focus on their service and staff. With some proper management, the hotel could be quite lovely. Until then, I would NOT recommend this hotel.
